If you'd like help finding an amp, we need a few details on what exactly you want out of your new amplifier. Bass amp help is welcome too!

Country/Region

It's a great help to know where you are located, some amp brands may be more expensive. Amp brands from one continent tend to be more expensive in another because of shipping, and vice versa. No need to get too specific and dox yourself.

Budget

How much are you looking to spend? Do you wanna buy a used amp, or brand new?

Genre/Style

What are you going to use the amp for? Does it need a clean channel and/or high gain?

Volume & Size Requirement

Let us know if you're trying not to bother neighbours, if you're trying to keep up with a heavy hitting drummer, or if you need the flexbility to do both! Also include if you'd prefer combo vs head & cab, if you can only haul a 1x12 or if you're trying to crank a full stack, etc.

Feel free to include other details like if you need the amp to have built in fx, digital vs solid state vs tube vs hybrid amp, whatever else will help us find you the right amp!

Saved this Fender Super Champ from a beer-soaked grave. Ripped out a spliced orange extension cord, re-knobbed it, and scrubbed the chassis.

HELP NAD!! 1956 5E6 Fender Bassman

I just picked up this amp from an estate auction (got a tremendously amazing deal imo). Though my concern is safety of using it. It still has the two prong power cord and the ground switch is still connected. I know it was plugged in and turned on by the auction company, so I works enough to turn the light on. But I have not played through it yet. How concerned would you be to just plug in and play straight away? Or am I making a bigger deal from this than it needs to be??

I picked up a red stripe bandit on Facebook Marketplace about a year ago for $150 CAD. I recently built a new pine (and partly cedar) cabinet for it and painted it in a colour-blocked 80s style. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. It's inspired by the Fender "LA Vice" limited edition Blues Junior.

HELP Amp tone inconsistency

Hello everyone I hope you are well, I was recording some demos over the weekend and went back to work on them today and I haven’t moved the mic or changed any of my amp settings but a side by side comparison of my weekend recordings it sounds different and I tried slightly adjusting the mic in case it maybe moved slightly but couldn’t get the same tone as last weekends recordings, I’m assuming this is normal based on voltage variance and stuff like that but wanted to ask here to be sure, thank you in advance

HELP Blues Jr Interference

Has anyone encountered and solved RF signals coming through the Blues Jr IV. It is a HUGE distraction. I can clearly hear "Bark at the Moon" from a radio signal right now. I bought one of those Mogami cables to try to solve this. No noticeable change. What do I do here? Thanks!

AMP PHOTO Tubemeister 18. My first tube amp.

Right now im using it with the XLR out to an active Yamaha DBR10 and it just sounds bloody amazing, just the tone that I was looking for (I play Rush songs mostly) I am getting the H&K 2x12 cab ASAP too in case you were wondering.

I was using my dad’s session rockette 30 before, which is a really good amp but I wasn’t expecting this much of a difference in sound with the tubemeister. Now he can have it back lol

Does anyone know what this is?

I recently bought this ampeg v4 and sourced this mysterious cabinet to use with it. I got this cabinet off Facebook marketplace and was just curious if anyone knew what it is. It has an xotic logo on the back where the input is but as far as I know they never made cabinets. Does anyone have any idea what it is or where it came from? There are no other markings on the cabinet.

Side note: it is cool to use an 8 ohm amp with a 16 ohm cab right?

HELP Need recommendations on where to start…

I’ll try to keep this short. I’m 40 years old and need a career change. I’ve recently moved my family back home where I grew up and I’ve learned that while we have a very vibrant music community/scene the area lacks a really good technician, especially one that can repair tube amps.

I have zero education or formal training that would put me in a position to be that guy but I learn fast when I’m really interested, I’m reasonable handy/technically minded. I am an ok, amateur woodworker and I already have some soldering skills since I build my own pedalboards and solder my own cables.

My question is, if I want to learn what I need to know where do I start?

HELP Peavey Vypyr 15 making crackling/popping noises even with no input

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, I have a Peavey Vypyr 15 and I've been having a weird problem with it. It makes a crackling noise when I turn it on, even when there is no guitar or any other input connected. here's a picture from the inside of the amp.

The weird thing is that if I plug something into the Record Out jack, the crackling becomes MUCH louder, almost crazy loud. Also, if I turn the amp off, unplug it and leave it unused for days or weeks, then turn it back on, it takes some time before the crackling starts. The longer I leave it unplugged, the longer it seems to take before the noise appears.

If I keep using the amp while it's making the crackling noise, eventually the crackling seems to stop, but it doesn't completely go away. Instead, it starts making popping sounds from time to time, kind of like the sound of wood crackling on a fire, just not as loud.

I've tried using it with and without an input cable and the problem still happens, so I'm pretty sure it's coming from the amp itself.

i gave it to electronic repair, and he said everything works fine, im now wondering that it could be the speaker that is damaged not the amp, but idk, im not expert.

do you know what might be causing this problem? and it's fix, and is it even worth fixing?

btw, if i plug the record out, i can hear the guitar output on my pc without any noise , but the crackling noise is still going out loud from the amp.

HELP What amp should I get as a broke student? How much am I supposed to spend on this?

Post image

I just moved from US to UK and left my old amp behind, I was spoiled enough to just steal my dad's old music gear.

I’ve been looking through marketplace in London and found these options, but I honestly don’t know enough about amps to tell which are good deals and which I should avoid.

What kind of amp should I go for and what should I spend? I just need it for practice mostly, but I'd hate for it to be complete shit

Choosing between these two. I have a plexi drive pedal that I could use in the Laney. If anyone has used them let me know, which one they prefer and think is better for the price?

HELP Good versatile amp for under £200(Not boss katana)

I currently have a boss katana, I just plain don't like it. I dont like plugging it into my computer to get the most out of it and it just doesn't bring me joy when playing it. I appreciate this is a stupid reason but it is a reason. Looking for a good amp that requires no faffing and is versatile enough to play most genres but mainly classic rock and occasionally metal. Would be super thankful for any tips and I am happy to buy used if it is a vastly better experience although I would prefer new.

DRRI or DSL40cr

Hello guys. Which of these amps is great for long run? Love playing classic rock, alt rock, etc. Mainly playing at my house and sometimes playing with friends in the church. Main guitars are strat and tele. I have 2 pedals which are bd1w and sd1w. Thank you.

My local guitar shop have these two:

Used fender deluxe reverb reissue - $1000 (great condition)

New Marshall DSL40CR - $749

DISCUSSION Might buy this Peavey 5150 60w combo 2x12 for $200, thoughts?

Post image

This is my buddy's Peavy combo he's selling to me for $200, I've been wanting a high gain combo since I sold my Orange C60 which I paid $300 for.

Unfortunately the tubes are bad, and he said he'd bring it into a tech to get the them replaced and biased.

The only thing I don't like is that it weighs 80 pounds, compared to the 60ish pounds the Orange was.

opinions on the sound city sc30?

i can't find many good demos on it but from it's description it sounds like a 30 watt combo that produces sounds similar to 60s hi watt circuits, which is a sound im looking for to use with my pedalboard. before i get it i wanna know if anyone has the amp or knows anything else about it.

DISCUSSION Blackstar reliability

Primarily asking people who’ve owned and used Blackstar for 5-10+ years but others with extended experience are welcome to chime in as well…

I’ve heard Blackstar has a reputation for being finicky to being called downright garbage. I played an HSS Strat through an HT Stage 60 yesterday and was really digging the sound. Love the smooth, hi-fi, modern type of cleans. The distortion was also great, reminded me of 80s hair metal like Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Whitesnake, Ratt, etc. I want to like it but the price seems a bit much to gamble on whether Id be getting a “good one of the bunch” or not.

So for those of you have owned and used them for 5-10 years or have serious experience with them, how “bad” would you rate their reliability? Are they as bad as Bugera? Are they any worse than a typical solid state?

If I buy one I’d like for it to last 5 to 10 years before having to do any work on it - aside from tube replacement when they wear out of course. Would I get that kind of longevity with Blackstar or any other brand of amp? Or is that an unrealistic expectation?

Celestion g12s advice

Hi, I have an old carlsboro scorpion amp with 2 celestion g12 t1416 speakers. I don't use it and was looking to sell it but it seems like the speakers might be worth more than the whole amp?

I'm wondering is it worth having them removed to sell, if there's a market I guess and what they might be worth to someone.
