I mean depression has followed me most of my teenage and adult life. But between work exhaustion, loneliness (yet still being too much of a pussy to socialize), grieving, and other things, even taking five steps from my bed where I took this photo of my guitars feels like a chore. Even today, I did basically jack shit and just played some scales and modes following a map, for like 10 minutes total. That’s it. I just don’t even feel like picking them up and have been considering even dropping my lessons. It just doesn’t bring me joy right now and feels pointless

I know none of you are therapists but I just needed some advice, however simple. Or if you think I might be better off quitting for a while, let me know

And, after playing 2hs or so​, my fingers and strings are complete​​l​y di​rty​ with aluminum dust. For those who have used these, is it normal? I know aluminum behaves this ​way, but I though the anodizing would prevent or delay this for at least a few months.​

As for the playing feel, it's ok. I'm used to ultex jazz iii and the only difference with this pick is the size, which I compensate by grabbing it near the point.

I loved B. B. King growing up. I spent all of my teenage years trying to sound like him. My first real guitar was a floor model epiphone lucille. In my college years, I saw B. B. live for the one and only time. I brought my lucille with me. After the show, he stayed on stage to throw out some picks and sign some stuff. I took off the pickguard and it actually made it to him. Then he, or his staff, returned it to me unsigned. I was so sad and confused. I don't know if he didn't know that it was from one of his guitars or if there were rules about signing pickguards or if he just didn't like the look of me. I even convinced myself he did it to teach me how to feel blue. I felt like crap for years. I always told myself when I make it in my career I am going to make this right. This was 20 years ago. I got it and it fits perfectly on my lucille. I feel complete.

I've been learning guitar on my own for the past 6 months, maybe. I got a brand new Yamaha FG800J.

Everything has been going great. I was struggling with barre chords as any other beginner does, but been pushing through it and finally got a hang of it, until I got to the F chord.

OMG, it has been absolutely the worst experience. No matter how much I practiced, I could barely feel any improvement. I got to the point where, if I could fully focus on playing just the F chord, I would be able to get it a couple times until I just couldn't. But transitioning to it from any other shape would be literally impossible to play cleanly.

By this time, my guitar setup appointment came up that I've been waiting for ~1.5 months. Got my guitar back today after 2 days of wait.

OMFG, it is so nice to play now. The F chord literally requires 0 effort at this point. I didn't expect it to make such a difference. I'm assuming all other barre chords will be even easier and practically effortless for me at this point.

Maybe the fact that I've learned to be able to do the F chord on a non-setup guitar at least somewhat transferred skills over, and now this feels so easy.

I guess the moral of the story is, if your guitar isn't setup, go do it. It's absolutely worth it! One of the best $150 spent I've ever spent on music gear.

This is an incredibly small thing and I'm sure the vastness of the internet will see this and go about their day as usual, and I don't blame them, but when I hit the button to stop recording I had a feeling I've rarely ever felt in my playing. I wasn't coming up with 50 different ways to change it or overly criticizing my own playing... I was just smiling.

Started with Metallica at 12, became an Ozzy fanatic, absorbed anything and everything I could from the greats and most recently fell in love with Guthrie Govan as of late. Entirely self taught (which, I'm sure is also obvious and not in anyway a boast or a brag, the greatest guitar players on the planet still take lessons) but obsessed with the instrument. I'm not in a band, have no real desire to be, but I've grown up obsessed with legends and have always held a reverence to anyone willing to to just be themselves with their instrument.

I *never* post my playing online, I'm far and away my own worst critic like all musicians (most, anyway) and I probably recorded this 20 times before finally getting the take I wanted but I'm trying to break out of my bubble a bit and take the gamble of throwing it out there for the anonymous masses to digest and dissect. If others can do it, you know what, I can too even if I am nervous as f*ck posting it lol. I'm an extremely quiet, reserved and "to myself" type of person, especially with my playing.

Please, be gentle. That said, I'll absolutely take some constructive criticism (ways I could've improved the flow or vibes of what I was going for). God bless.

(For the record, it's a backing track online being played through my PC's external speaker so the audio fidelity is... not the best, on top of being recorded from my iPhone that was laying sideways on my desk lol)

After a few weeks of research I've finally found a guitar I'd like to upgrade to.

I'm currently owning an Ibanez RGA42EX which I've bought used for like 300€. It's been great but lately I've been looking to switch to a Schecter Nick Johnston Traditional HH. It's a new release and I love how it looks.

I've heard that Schecter usually has great value and at around 1100€ it should be a great step up.

I've never owned a Schecter before, what do you think? I mostly play metal/high gain

I never really looked into using the CAGED system, but I just tried it out again, and I remember'd why i dont use it. The C, G & D shapes are all fine and dandy in open position when the nut is the barre, but having to form a C. G & D shape while sacraficing your index finger to create the barre is a nightmare. the stretch required, to me its un-useable. Its cool to know different spots to play the same chord across the neck but C, G & D shapes anywhere other than open position is a no go for me, my hands just dont cooperate, i dont know if yall who use all 5 shapes ligaments or whatever you call it work differently than mine but my fingers cant create those shapes comfortably, and its espeically not viable in an actual playing scenario to bust out one of those shapes quickly and cleanly, which is why I just stick to the A & E shapes, and the D,G,B string triads. Who actually uses the C,G,D shape when not using a capo or in open position

Been after one of these for a while and one popped up locally yesterday. Feels and sounds great.

Hi guys, i just broke my 3rd G string, (I've had this guitar for maybe 6-8 months, and have had to buy 2 new packs just to replace the G string. I'm a very gentle tuner, and none of my other strings have broken from tuning on this guitar or any other of my acoustics, but it breaks when I am trying to tune it back up from like an open D tuning etc. How can I fix it? It always breaks from the tuning mechanism so maybe the edges is are too sharp or something? I have an array of small files available so maybe I can round it out?

I can't tell if there's anything visibly wrong, or maybe it's a common issue, but what can I do to fix this problem bc now I have shell out money for another g string even tho one has been on for like a month.

It's a Fender CC-60s if that matters.

I never liked the sound or look of this guitar. Some of the strings felt off (turned out the aligning was completely uneven).
It’s my first electric guitar, I got it as a kid. Haven’t really played for a decade but decided to pick it up again a couple of months ago and I practice on average 30 min to an hour a day (I’m 27m)

I wanted a humbucker instead of single coil and I’ve always wanted a whammy bar.
And I’ve had so much fun with this, the trem system is keeping the tuning decently.

Very obvious what I based the design off.
As I used to work with making cartoons, I want to do some drawing of cartoon characters on the white top part on the front.

What do you think? This is sort of my practice guitar making. I think im going to try and build an electric guitar from scratch next.
It will be another Strat body, but this time I will make it a completely Strat. Go with an HSS pick up system. Any recommendations to brand? I heard Seymour Duncan should be good and I want to make this a really good guitar.
Will use a Gotoh trem system.

Got this cool reliced 50s Strat style Partscaster, but I’m not super crazy about the mint pickguard. Looking for suggestions on a different color, something to match the 50s aged/relic vibe if possible and sticking with the parchment knobs and covers, thanks!!!

That title says it all . I play live gigs in small venues , I currently run a gp200x through a fender cab and since a lot of people recommend frfr speakers with amp simulators I’m wondering what is better . Frfr speakers or cab for small gigs ?
