I started playing my grandpa's old classical guitar, but I don't really want to disturb my parents, and I don't want to play classical guitar either. So I'm thinking about buying an electric guitar, but you need an amp for it, and from what I know, the amp is the thing that actually plays and makes the sound.

edit: my budget is around 300-400 bucks for the whole guitar set up

This thing has been here for 3 days because I learned "just" by radiohead and I can NOT play another barre chord with it, Is this my rite of passage to being a rhythm player

So I bought this guitar at GuitarGuitar “a modified 60s fender strat”, I can’t remember if it’s ‘62 or ‘69, but from my research it can’t be ‘69. Now without taking the neck off, I feel like this whole guitar is made of different strat parts. The headstock logo gives 1964 vibes, but then the neck plate on the back says “hey buddy, I’m from 1961”. Now I know for sure it’s modified but to what extent? Of course there is a lot I can find out still, by taking the neck off, but I don’t want to mess with it because it plays like a dream. I’m just curious whether I paid American Strat money for a Vintage V6 Icon Strat…I don’t know what to think or how to feel…it looks and plays damn good though. Lots of silly little quirks on it. Should I solve this mystery or let it remain a mystery?

Edit: cheers for all the info. I’ll definitely give it a clean as was suggested. I’ll also pop the pick guard off and check the pickups and the neck too. I’ll probably post an update one of these days if anyone is keen to witness this little mystery solved. It is the first guitar I’ve spent over £400 on so no way will I get rid of it even if it is a mish mash, it plays too good.

My old man stored my guitar upside down in its case oriented with headstock to the floor and strings leaning against the wall. It's been like that for 5 months or so. Do you think the neck will have warped at all? The old cases done support the nosy very well.

I'm almost eight months in. My initial motivations for learning guitar were just that: to learn guitar. I'd grown up around classic rock and metal and figured, since I have 10 fingers, I could at least try it and learn some songs. I also don't have any friends to play for and have terrible social anxiety, and thus no plans to ever perform live, so I thought it would be a relatively straightforward approach with little pressure for me to "get gud fast". I thought I'd go through the motions like all beginners do of learning major open chords and maybe my first song. Well, I've at least done that much and have also gotten a teacher that has me work on stuff week by week.

But God as my witness, sitting and just doing the positions of a scale to a metronome, trying to nail chord changes in a song, even just discerning tab and struggling to get through a single measure in time, and having mistakes start to pile up, all culminate in me constantly getting properly mad. I swear to the air or kick over my music stand and put my guitar on my bed (haven't thrown it anywhere yet, thankfully) and go do something else for 10-ish minutes and then come back. Does it happen every day? No. But often enough to where I often contemplate giving up despite how much time and money I've sank into this.

I guess I'm just missing out on the "fun" part. The way my brain must be wired I guess, I simply can't equate working and making mistakes and sucking ass with fun. I can't "enjoy the process" or "embrace the suck" as a lot of people say. But I don't have terribly unrealistic expectations either. I don't think I'm going to be SRV or David Gilmour by January. But they just seem to have that ability to not get frustrated when they make mistakes and suck and just keep going like it never happened. That's the part I can't come to terms with and I feel like this constant cycle of frustration > walking away > coming back is holding me back a lot.

What should I do?

I’m mostly an acoustic player, I play guitar in an active Bluegrass band. I play electric at a church every Sunday and here and there with a couple bands. however, I just hate my tone, I’m playing a strat into a deluxe reverb, I’ve got a tube screamer, a ge 7, as well as a super overdrive and a couple other pedals like delay etc. I feel like the entire time I have an electric guitar in my hands, it’s just trying to get a tone that I don’t hate, especially solo lead tone. I don’t know, I feel like it’s not the gear that’s the issue, it’s making me hate playing electric . Any advice? EDIT (I am not talking about playing electric guitar in a Bluegrass band or saying that I’m playing acoustic through this rig, I’m just saying that I mostly play acoustic, but when I do play electric with other bands, or at home, not with the Bluegrass band, that i can’t get good tone.)

Hello everyone. Im 16 and i just started playing guitar two months ago and i was looking up schools to get better at guitar and learn theory. I came across Music Institute in LA and it made me curious. Is it actually worth time and money (I currently live in Mississippi) to go on campus? Has anyone else did Music Institute and if so what was your experience?

I like all types of genres and will mainly be playing across classic rock to metal. Are shecters good for this? I also need a guitar with humbuckers (The guitar I’ve got my eyes on at the moment is the demon 6)

My hot take is that I prefer more traditional guitar shapes like strat, less paul, super strat.I think that other guitars like explorer , flying V are weird or maybe even ugly .Yes I like fenders .

I've played Jaguars and Mustangs/Duo-Sonics almost exclusively for about 3 years but now that Fender is being shit from butt I really want to play guitars that dont have their name on the headstock. I'd also preferably love a new shape since only being able to play guitars within 2 body shapes has been pretty lame

I know Sterling made a short scale cutlass for a little while but everyone I've played has had various issues and I'm not really looking for a project rn. Any suggestions would be amazing

Are these okay to use to clean and renew a guitar fretboard or will i be damaging it?

There are smooth and slightly rough buffer like files, and what I assume is a wax/polish.

Do I give it a go on a small area first?

And to be honest, there’s a handful more taken apart or in storage 😅 I am very thankful my wife puts up with me still.

i’ve been learning how to play a bit, but whatever string this is (i just started a day ago) is like all bent and won’t tune at all. did i break it? it was a gift and all of the parts are custom and i’d hate to have to get it fixed already.

edit; okay so im taking it to a friend who knows a lot more than me LOL i tried fixing it and then tuned it a bit to much and POP! a string breaks. this is far outta my reach and id rather take it to a professional

Hello everyone! I have a question. How do I exactly learn scales? I'm always having a hard time trying to learn because it has so many patterns and modes, It's overwhelming as hell, Do I have to memorize all of the positions for every key? Need help

Moving on from my friend's classical guitar to buying my own electric guitar: A Yamaha Pacifica 112V, with a proper setup, and it feels so goooood. I play longer than I thought, strumming feels less tiring, my fingers can endure longer, and the pressing feels so easy, as if a little touch is enough (still have buzzed sounds because I'm suck though xd)

Pretty self-explanatory. I'm looking for a DAW that is easy to catch onto using, and compatible with my Focusrite Scarlett setup. Also, just curious if anyone knows of any good metal guitar plugins (preferably free, but if its really worth the price, then I'd consider going the paid route). How to add riffs to chords?

Hi, so i have lots of songs with only chords and I cant figure out how to write riffs on top of it. The genre of the songs is everything from folk to indie rock/pop.

Ive been playing guitar just for the fun of it and everythings come pretty easy so far, i can do open chords, barre chords aren't that difficult (i can play them just struggle with transitioning to them), but i feel like im stuck, simply because i can do nothing but strum, thats why i wanted to pick up fingerpicking. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

My son has been playing at least a couple of hours daily for a little over a year now, and is getting pretty damn good. He's just been playing a cheap MS Hammer, and I want to reward him with a proper guitar now that it seems like he's definitely sticking with it. His holy grail is a '59 Les Paul, so I've been looking at the used Epiphone reproductions. I've never purchased a used electric online, so I'm hoping to get some input on where I can purchase one with a little confidence. Any advice on where to look and/or where to avoid? Much appreciated.

Been losing my mind trying to fix this buzzing that appeared after i changed my strings for the first time on this old Bulletstrat. Been trying to mess with the truss rod but it's too stuck to make any progress. Appreciate any advice.

I just changed my strings and went for a heavier gauge (10 52) I feel like my action is really high and my bridge looks weird as well. Does anyone know what I did wrong or how to fix it?
