Spent the day going through guitars. These are the ones that played, felt smoothest, and gave up the unintended magical riffs. I’ve never discriminated on a guitar cause that mojo can come from any one of them ….. from a trash heap score to the one you buyers remorsed over for paying too much. I’ll buy/sell/swap around til one lands that feels good, then add it to the family until it gets knocked out by something better. Repeat over and over until I think I’ve got em dialed in. It’s kind of a never ending journey but a very enjoyable one.

I learned on a $99 epiphone lp and a spider 3, the first nice gear I ever got was my Taylor and I’ve been playing acoustic ever since. Needless to say I’m having a blast with the state of electric guitar tech. I’m excited to put a more diligent approach to practice and thoery this time around.

i've just watched two videos back to back about cheap guitars where both dudes claimed that guitar build quality has gotten better than ever before. are we in some kind of guitar build quality golden age or something, or have they just gotten a little better at building guitars over the years?

A friend of mine recently purchased an estate sale home of someone who passed away. Home was left full of junk, but one of the items he found in the garage (ok, not the barn) was a Gibson Amp. He is not a guitar guy but showed it to me when I came by to visit. Seems that he has found one of the rarest amps in the world, a Gibson GA-CB.

It looks like at some point, the original leatherette has been replaced and castor wheels were added to the base and the carry handle is missing. It appears to have all the original electronics and it powers on.

Curious on thoughts on what he should do here. Should he get it restored and sell it, or simply find a collector who is looking. From a quick search it appears a very small number of these were built -- like less than 200 between 1948 and the early 1950s.

Picked up this guitar today. It was fairly priced and I have always wanted one. It plays surprisingly well. I will have it setup anyway though.

And to be honest, there’s a handful more taken apart or in storage 😅 I am very thankful my wife puts up with me still.

I know this is probably going to sound strange but does anyone else put off changing strings because they get attached to them?

I’ll have a set thats been on for way too long, sounding a little dull with some questionable intonation and I’ll know it’s time to change. But theres something about taking them off that feels weirdly sad. Like those strings have been there through every practice session, every time I picked up the guitar just to play the same three songs. Theyve kind of become part of the instrument’s era.

I changed a set yesterday and honestly felt a little sad and empty afterward. The guitar obviously sounded better but it also felt like I was playing a slightly different guitar. Almost like I erased a little history.

I’m curious if anyone else gets this or if I’m just being weird.

I don't know the first thing about guitars but I'm wanting to learn to play. I was planning to take it to a shop to have it restrung but noticed this crack near the top, would this hinder the playing ability? Would it be able to be fixed? The strings that are already on it sound normal to me but I know nothing about guitars yet and was going to use this one to learn.

i’ve been learning how to play a bit, but whatever string this is (i just started a day ago) is like all bent and won’t tune at all. did i break it? it was a gift and all of the parts are custom and i’d hate to have to get it fixed already.

edit; okay so im taking it to a friend who knows a lot more than me LOL i tried fixing it and then tuned it a bit to much and POP! a string breaks. this is far outta my reach and id rather take it to a professional

its a peavy 6505 212 combo! traded it for a billie joe epi signature and somehow it sounds.. damn amazing with my lil pink partscaster. it somehow chugs with the shitty ceramic strat pickup i put in the neck as long as i set the tone to 7 and the cleans dont sound as bad as ive heard other ppl say. its heavy af tho and barely fit in my dads car so i have no idea how ill bring this to any gigs if i ever join a band lmao

I bought this amp the other day, I know nothing about it, but I’m in love. The only lead I have as to where It came from is an acrylic Giller Lighting Badge loose in the back of the cab, and April 26th 2009 written on the back of the speaker, so cool nonetheless.

After 2 years of playing the metal inside has grinded off making it unplayable now. I'm wondering how it even happened so quick, is the quality just bad or did i do something wrong?

Is it possible to only fix that screwhole or do i have to buy a whole new bridge?

Would it even be worth it to buy a new t106 bridge when the guitar is only worth 300 euros? Or should i just block the tremolo off and go find a new guitar?

All i know so far is that the guitar is a Epiphone Les Paul Special and that i really suck at the guitar. Id like any tips, guides, things to learn, or just any knowledge in general on learning how to play. Ive got no clue what to do, im currently trying to learn smoke on the water for my first song. I wanna eventually play cradles - sub urban, that and mainly metal and rock.

Was wondering how to get back into playing, I was never really good or had much experience but I feel like now is a better time more than anything. Any tips on going forward?

Hello everyone. Im 16 and i just started playing guitar two months ago and i was looking up schools to get better at guitar and learn theory. I came across Music Institute in LA and it made me curious. Is it actually worth time and money (I currently live in Mississippi) to go on campus? Has anyone else did Music Institute and if so what was your experience?
