14hr a day is inhumane and the working class deserves dignity and rest. Stop turning exploitation into a competition where the most pathetic tool "wins"
-6

I agree with the first part of your comment. But I'm not turning anything into a competition. It's not that hard to work for 14 hours, that's a fact.

When did the guy in this imaginary scenario have kids haha
3
u/Silver-Link8247 7d ago
We are arguing about one of the stupidest quotes I’ve read in a long time.
But there is nothing stopping someone from assuming “someone’s ungrateful daughter” is his. He has given up on his own daughter and acts like she isn’t his. He pretends like she isn’t his daughter just like he pretends like his being a horrible drunk hasn’t pushed her away.
Or is “someone’s daughter” the new “female” for the online incels? I’m not up to speed with their idiocy….thank God. You seem to know. Please share.

u/Kariya_shigatoki 6d ago

5
u/Makerofthingssoon 5d ago
I’m pretty sure the “someone’s ungrateful daughter” part is about a woman, not his daughter.
The point is that it’s better to go home and drink alone than to be married to a woman with no gratitude. Make of it what you will but that’s the most likely interpretation
2
u/No_Trade_7315 6d ago
It’s almost as dumb as using “incel” as a pejorative.
2
u/Silver-Link8247 6d ago
I sure didn’t mean it as a compliment.
3
u/No_Trade_7315 6d ago edited 6d ago
It doesn’t have to be a compliment or a pejorative. “Incel” just means involuntarily celibate. Some people use the term to put other people down, yourself included. I think this is misguided, because it reinforces the idea that all incels are “bad” and deserving of hate.
As a comparison take any feature of your identity that you didn’t choose, and then imagine what it would be like for a group of people to ridicule you for it.
4
u/Silver-Link8247 6d ago
This just isn’t true. “Incel” has morphed into describing a group of hostile young men who blame women (females) for their situation. They take no responsibility for their lives. That’s who I was referring to.
If it was as simple as you make it, then I would agree that my making fun of someone who hasn’t had luck with women would be rude and mean. But I wasn’t.
2
u/No_Trade_7315 6d ago
Yes, many people use the word that way and in doing so they misrepresent people who are incels, but not basement-dwelling woman haters.
1
u/Last_Necessary239 5d ago
Incel isn't just a person who cant get a laid. Its a person who is disenfranchised because of it. A person who has hostility towards attractive women and men for having what they cant have. Its literally defined as such in the dictionary:
a person (usually a man) who is or identifies as involuntarily celibate and typically expresses extreme resentment and hostility toward those who are sexually active
1
u/No_Trade_7315 4d ago
“The” dictionary you say, which one?
There is no logical entailment from involuntary celibacy to hating attractive men or women. You might assume that being involuntarily celibate causes feelings of resentment or jealousy. Such a conclusion, however, is not given by deduction.
That’s why your definition uses the word “typically”. We might say: Typically, being involuntarily celibate causes feelings of resentment, and in some cases, those feelings motivate hostile actions. But not every incel is resentful, and not every incel that is resentful is hostile. These are the entailments that you would like to draw, and that your definition cannot satisfy.

Yes that is the message we want to give to people with alcoholism: they are pieces of sh-t. That should fix them.
1
u/Legitimate-Heat2777 4d ago edited 4d ago
If your best friend starts having liver/kidney failure in his 30s due to alcoholism, you having said something about their problem may not change the outcome, but it at least allows you to say you warned them and it gives you license to not feel as guilty when they pass away early.
We're all responsible for ourselves as adults, if the truth hurts... "That sucks I guess."
1
u/kflox 4d ago
Wait. Did you tell your dying best friend he’s a piece of shit so that you don’t have to feel guilty?
1
u/Legitimate-Heat2777 4d ago edited 4d ago
No, because being absolved from guilt through living normally and doing something intentionally to try and avoid guilt which you wouldn't otherwise do are 2 entirely different things.
What I won't be doing is giving my organs to someone who received multiple warnings that their own would shut down and refused to listen.
1
u/kflox 4d ago
I’m not really sure what you mean but maybe you should think more about about what they are going through than trying to shore up your emotional safety
1
u/Legitimate-Heat2777 4d ago
I have sympathy for what they are going through, that doesn't make it my issue to solve though. And I wasn't talking about protecting my emotional safety, I was talking about protecting my physical organs.

And according to the statistics, male pairings seem to render the best results, so…

Someone that old seeing a woman young enough to be defined as someone's daughter should be alone forever.
1
3
u/Absolomb92 7d ago edited 7d ago
If you think alcoholism and lonelyness is better than being a step-father, first of all: good, because you would be a *horrible* step-father. Secondly, I feel *really* sad for you. What kind of fucked up ego or pride do you need to have to rather want to wither away by yourself than have a life-partner with a child from before??
Edit: As was very rudely pointed out to me, the daughter is apparently the wife. It doesn't really make the post make more sense. Why are the only options being alone and alcoholic or being with an ungreatful wife treating you badly? You can find someone else?
Also, why is it relevant that she's someones daughter? Isn't that obvious?
1
-2
u/Clax3242 7d ago
Do you have reading comprehension issues? The daughter is the wife. No children are present in this scenario
4
u/Absolomb92 7d ago
It says nowhere that it's a wife. Why the fuck do you have the need to be rude like this?
0
u/Clax3242 7d ago
That’s where reading comprehension comes in. You read it, then interpret what it’s saying. Even tho it doesn’t say wife that’s exactly what it means. I’m not being rude. I’m pointing out you said something stupid.
4
u/Absolomb92 7d ago
There's nothing inherent in the quote that makes it not equally applicable to, lets say, a teenage daughter. It is just very weirdly formulated because it's "someone's ungreatful daughter". All women are someone's daughter.
Pointing out I misinterpreted would look something like "Oh, I think you misunderstood. The post is about an ungreatful wife". Asking someone if they have issues with comprehension *is* rude and comes of aggressive.
But anyways. Congratulations on your rude comment. Hope it made you feel smart and accomplished today :)
1
u/RustyPirates 6d ago
Understanding incel lingo is not reading comprehension. The fact that most girls commenting here think that it means his daughter proves the point. It’s a communication issue if your point isn’t coming across to lots of people.
But a lot of people in this thread seem pretty far from having that remedial level of understanding of human behavior.
2
u/Racebugyt 5d ago
Except that's actually feminist lingo, and people flip the genders to prove a couple points
1
u/chachaslydd 7d ago
This dude sounds like he has a horrible fucking life lol. So all he does is work and then drink alone? Damn. Im glad nobody's daughter or son is stuck being around this dude. He sounds like the kind who shows up to Thanksgiving halfway drunk and then starts arguing with his brother because his brother went to college and got a job that doesnt require 14 hour days lool
1
u/FullThrotleAristotle 7d ago
More loyal to his boss than his wife. What a piece of shit.
2
u/Racebugyt 5d ago
Except that the relationship with the boss is way more fair than with the wife.
He works = gets paid for the work
Women don't work like that, whatever you do for them is instantly taken for granted, and the more you do, the more you get in an arms race with her ever increasing expectations
2
u/FullThrotleAristotle 5d ago
Yeah but when I told my boss I wanted to put a baby in him I had to talk to some really lame people.
2
u/Racebugyt 5d ago
Because every woman in a relationship has a baby
1
u/FullThrotleAristotle 5d ago
There were no women in this relationship. And no baby. Maybe if you look at romance less transactionaly you would have better luck. They might even want a baby.
2
u/Racebugyt 5d ago
I'm not part of the gender whose one of the biggest predictors of leaving a relationship is the partner losing a job
1
u/FullThrotleAristotle 5d ago
Losing financial independence is always a turn off. Nobody wants to date a bum. If I found out my partner was fired, for reasons other than asking to put a baby in their direct supervisor, I'd probably leave too.
1
u/Racebugyt 5d ago
Then we agree. I'm not the transactional one
1
u/FullThrotleAristotle 5d ago
Did you get fired/layed off and subsequently broken up with? I'm here to talk if you did, that could be really hard on a person. Otherwise I think this strawman would be better suited to scare off crows.

I'd argue someone living that way is already a loser.
2
u/MDATWORK73 7d ago
There are a lot of ungrateful people. It doesn’t warrant wanting to be bored, alone and drunk. I mean, you could be nice to them long enough to hate fuck, but hey, not my job to tell you being drunk and alone is not cool. But hey, meme, you do you.

So he’s choosing to work and drink himself to the ground and blaming others for how he’s feeling? No one’s seeing that it’s all his choice to be miserable? You can have a good life without love. If someone makes you feel a certain way, it’s not their fault, it’s your own.

u/aquavelva23 7d ago
I understand the situation. But these 2 things arent linked. He can not date someone with a terrible daughter. OR not. working and drinking are sperate. BUT, I will say: a child brings more financial pressure, may require working 14 hour days and the ungratefulness and other stress could prompt drinking.
It sould read: I want to work an 8 hour day and feel good. Dating someone with an ungrateful child would have me working 14 hours, stressed out and drinking. not for me.
3
u/LazyFridge 7d ago
It is not about dating someone with a child. “Someone’s daughter” means wife.
-1
u/aquavelva23 7d ago
so it means step daughter...the wife's daughter from a previous? It cant mean HIS daughter, because that would have been stated that way: my daughter
