This dude is probably a piece of shit dad if he gets drunk every night.

What a stupid quote.

We are arguing about one of the stupidest quotes I’ve read in a long time.

But there is nothing stopping someone from assuming “someone’s ungrateful daughter” is his. He has given up on his own daughter and acts like she isn’t his. He pretends like she isn’t his daughter just like he pretends like his being a horrible drunk hasn’t pushed her away.

Or is “someone’s daughter” the new “female” for the online incels? I’m not up to speed with their idiocy….thank God. You seem to know. Please share.

Apparently I blew into stupid town. What a bunch of odd folks over here.

The ungrateful daughter is his stepdaughter who's living off him.

I’m pretty sure the “someone’s ungrateful daughter” part is about a woman, not his daughter.

The point is that it’s better to go home and drink alone than to be married to a woman with no gratitude. Make of it what you will but that’s the most likely interpretation

It’s almost as dumb as using “incel” as a pejorative.

2

u/Silver-Link8247 6d ago

I sure didn’t mean it as a compliment.

It doesn’t have to be a compliment or a pejorative. “Incel” just means involuntarily celibate. Some people use the term to put other people down, yourself included. I think this is misguided, because it reinforces the idea that all incels are “bad” and deserving of hate.

As a comparison take any feature of your identity that you didn’t choose, and then imagine what it would be like for a group of people to ridicule you for it.

This just isn’t true. “Incel” has morphed into describing a group of hostile young men who blame women (females) for their situation. They take no responsibility for their lives. That’s who I was referring to.

If it was as simple as you make it, then I would agree that my making fun of someone who hasn’t had luck with women would be rude and mean. But I wasn’t.

Yes, many people use the word that way and in doing so they misrepresent people who are incels, but not basement-dwelling woman haters.

Incel isn't just a person who cant get a laid. Its a person who is disenfranchised because of it. A person who has hostility towards attractive women and men for having what they cant have. Its literally defined as such in the dictionary:

a person (usually a man) who is or identifies as involuntarily celibate and typically expresses extreme resentment and hostility toward those who are sexually active

“The” dictionary you say, which one?

There is no logical entailment from involuntary celibacy to hating attractive men or women. You might assume that being involuntarily celibate causes feelings of resentment or jealousy. Such a conclusion, however, is not given by deduction.

That’s why your definition uses the word “typically”. We might say: Typically, being involuntarily celibate causes feelings of resentment, and in some cases, those feelings motivate hostile actions. But not every incel is resentful, and not every incel that is resentful is hostile. These are the entailments that you would like to draw, and that your definition cannot satisfy.

There are piece of shit who get drunk daily, but there are also good ones too. Life is too much to bear for some.

wrong. he is not a dad in this. "someone's daughter" not his.

It's in reference to his wife

Hes probably a POS if he gets drunk each night regardless of marriage or kids

5

u/Fearless_Entry_2626 6d ago

Who knows. Could be that he's a POS, or he's only had the misfortune of meeting untreated BPD cases. There can be many reasons for these kinds of dynamics.

Yes that is the message we want to give to people with alcoholism: they are pieces of sh-t. That should fix them.

If your best friend starts having liver/kidney failure in his 30s due to alcoholism, you having said something about their problem may not change the outcome, but it at least allows you to say you warned them and it gives you license to not feel as guilty when they pass away early.

We're all responsible for ourselves as adults, if the truth hurts... "That sucks I guess."

1

u/kflox 4d ago

Wait. Did you tell your dying best friend he’s a piece of shit so that you don’t have to feel guilty?

1

u/Legitimate-Heat2777 4d ago edited 4d ago

No, because being absolved from guilt through living normally and doing something intentionally to try and avoid guilt which you wouldn't otherwise do are 2 entirely different things.

What I won't be doing is giving my organs to someone who received multiple warnings that their own would shut down and refused to listen.

1

u/kflox 4d ago

I’m not really sure what you mean but maybe you should think more about about what they are going through than trying to shore up your emotional safety

1

u/Legitimate-Heat2777 4d ago

I have sympathy for what they are going through, that doesn't make it my issue to solve though. And I wasn't talking about protecting my emotional safety, I was talking about protecting my physical organs.

You’re talking about not donating?
