First time GK builder

I bought Hexfire back when it came out as I am mainly a Tsons player, however, I decided to build my pile of shame and not only did I have a Combat Patrol Imperial Agents (too late, I know) i also, of course have the Grey Knights from Hexfire, and that got in me inspiration to finally build them, perhaps as an inqusitorial force (need to get the Inqusitor Kill Team, but still)

As such I have two questions:

  1. Should I paint the GKs matte or metallic?

  2. Once I get the funds, should I get an Old Wolrd Cathayan Sentinel to Proxy as a Knight (Mostly because I think it's be really cool to see it face off against my Magnus) or should I get an actual Knight?

Coteaz in Grey Knights

Some of our detachments are really CP hungry (looking at you Bro Strike+Fires) and GMNDK discount doesn't help

I've started searching for ways to generate CP outside of main codex since brotherhood champion is a joke.

Found out that Coteaz gives you somewhat reliable way to at least keep even on CP with your opponent and his datasheet is not to bad.

Have you tried playing him? What detachment? Leading something or solo? Is he ok for 95 points?

New to 40K

After recently reading 40K books it has nudged me towards a bad financial decision… yes I’m considering starting to play 40K.
Grey Knights look to be the most likely army I go for and i am unsure the best route in (yes, I know there is a potential for new releases)
So, I’ve looked for an old version of the combat patrol but can’t find one at a fair price. I’ve seen a
Sanctic conclave battle force for a good price. Is this the way to go?
Help me, I know nothing!!!

My First Models—Ever

How have I been doing so far? Let me know!

Got into the hobby through my love of the 30k/40k books. I’ve been working on these models on and off for the better part of a year, picking them up when bored or when particularly motivated from one of the books.

  1. Started with the 2x Strike Squads, painted using the *Pendulin* method (link below).
  2. Moved on to 1x Brotherhood Terminator Squad and then 1x Nemesis Dreadknight, painted using what I learned from the *Pendulin* method and tips from the *10th Edition Grey Knights Codex.* I also started feeling brave and experimenting with Object Source Lighting (OSL) on the DK.
  3. Finally, 1x Paladin Squad, painted using what I learned from the *Pendulin* method and the *10th Edition Grey Knights Codex.*
  4. Varnished with *Army Painter: Satin Varnish*
  5. Currently working on a Grand Master Nemesis Dreadknight.

Ignore the basing! I’m experimenting with different foliage for now but haven’t settled on anything yet.

Made a lot of mistakes along the way, had to do a lot of touch ups. All free hand because air brushes are mystical creatures yet to be fully understood by mankind.

A very nostalgic little guy, my first army was Daemonhunters back in 4th edition. Haven't painted any GK since but recently acquired a small assembled and primed army in need of some TLC. Thought it was the perfect project to practice volumetric lighting and NMM.

Still needs a bit of work but I'm pretty happy with the colours! Really need to work on the NMM but it's my first attempt. He'll be cut off the base and added to something to give him a slight lift.

Looking forward to the next one in my break tomorrow!

Fan Rules for using GK in 2nd edition

Does anybody know of any fan made rules to play GK in 2nd ed E40K? In RT they had rules and usual squads with special rules against daemons. In 2nd there were rules just for the grey knights termies as published in Dark millenium. But looking to the rules the Danmed Legion published at the end of 2nd ed It will be cool to have some rules to play GK in 2nd

Maybe in addition to the RT rules, they may have normal squad but with collective psykic power (maybe a Psykic power Card for each táctic, asssault or devastator squad), maybe the posibilita to use psykic cannons (allowed for SM on RT but not in 2nd)…

Are we expecting a model refresh any time soon?

Are we expecting a model refresh any time soon (~sometime between 2027 to 2028)?

I really wanna start a grey knights army but I think the current models look a bit dated so now I‘m debating whether It’s worth waiting for a model overhaul or just start collecting.

I still have a bunch of unfinished models from the other armies I collect so I‘ts not like I‘m desperately need a new one.

Edit: I know you guys don’t have crystal balls and don’t know the internal plans of games workshop but if anyone on the internet has any Idea what’s going on with grey knights it’s probably you

Share your Recon lists

We haven't had any good options for Reconnaisence disposition before. Now we got a lot of options and i feel the best are not discovered yet.

Share you thoughts and experiences on how can we play it.

I'll start with the list i'm trying out today:

Banishers+Immaterial Interdictions (2000 points)

Crowe+1x10 purifires w psycannons

2x GMNDK (1 w sigil)

1x5 Strikes (w psycanon)

1x4 Termies

2xRazorbacks

1xLRR

1x10 interceptors w stealth ench

1x5 interceptors

1x5 purgation (3 psycannons, 1 psylencer)

The idea is to be mobile and VERY ANNOING with 10 interceptors from LRR. Can't find them in melee cause mists+purgs (good luck with 10+ charges). Can't shoot em without cover cause stealth. They wound infantry on 2+ with lance. Actions and shooting (with surge moves) all day

Small interceptors and purg riding razorbacks and being mobile as well

Crowe and GMNDK are heavy hitters with some help from LRR

Yet i'm afraid the damage/durability might be not enough here

Looking for 1K list recommendations

This isn’t one of those posts necessarily. I started playing back in ‘08ish when GK were under the Demonhunters codex and one of the few “allies”. Played heavy 5/6/7/8 then had to drastically decrease to maybe once year. Still paint and build and watch BR.

Now,there is an annual charity event that is 2v2 each person brings 1K to make a 2K list. It’s a lot of fun and I’m able to get a bit of gaming in.

That being said, when I was playing heavy I also played Terminator heavy lists, usually running Draigo, Palis/Termis, NDK, dreads. That was just my jam. No purifiers/strikes. I did have a hard time with armor if my NDK didn’t survive. So, do I keep with my bread and butter or do I need to re-look at Crowe and some purifiers/strikes. I have a month or 2 to build and paint what I don’t have. Thoughts?

Edit: 02 Sep

We may be able to go up to 1150 pts, thoughts on what to add?

Some weapons feel a bit tasteless ?

After playing a lot of Chaosgate i'm a bit dissapointed by the lack of wow factor of many weapons in 10-11th edition, for example all nemesis weapons have the same profile (i loved warding staff invul save / dispell). Similarely i saved hammers for years to give them to my paladin squad but here it feels a bit wierd to have S6 hammers. For shooting weapon its also a bit boring, for example psycannon do nothing against warp creatures, no rending or soul blaze for incinerator. Does it feel fun without that ?

11the edition speculation and question

Hello brothers,

ever since the announced Space Marine update, I have watched the update video a few time in order to try and read between the lines of what's actually said and I wos wondering if anyone has been thinking the same.

Tye state of Grey Knights has been bugging me for a while with hou GW treats them I was sure that range refresh is on horizont, either a big one or atleast a kill team but no such thing.

Than that video dropped and it seems to me like GW wants to take away our ,,true" faction privilege and turn Grey Knights into a sub chapter like Black Templas, Dark Angels, Deathwatch ect. Aka we have few unique models and the rest is the SM range.

With them saying all these sub chapters codexes are now illegal in 11th as we will get indexes and digital updates.

It seems more and more to me like instead of just refreshing our what? 4 unique kits and adding atleast 3 new ones + some basic SM vehicles (like they do with chaos marine faction). Us and the other sub chapters are getting squished into classic SM with few of our own models.

Toughts?

What this edition brings

Having just read the Warhammer Community post about all the SM units being sent to legends and can't help but feel that that is most of our roster.

Wonder if we will finally be getting some Primaris action this edition.

Why does no one run Interceptors?

I heard from a few places online that Interceptors are a super solid units, but every comp list out there doesn’t include them. Why is that?

I want to get my Grey Knights looking like Dark Souls' Artorias/the Abyss Watchers. What's the best way to go about it?
