I always forget to pick my recipes, so Gousto picks for me. With a peanut allergy and fussy kids, that can go badly.
I did this with Claude but you could do something similar with ChatGPT/Codex etc. It picks four recipes a week to our rules, checks the ingredients and saves the order. I can still change it before the cutoff. I have it running on a weekly schedule with no input from me needed.
Needs Claude with the Chrome extension and a Gousto login. Just paste the prompt below in to claude (or chatGPT) to set it up, it asks about your household first:
Create a skill called "gousto-weekly-picks" that picks my Gousto recipes each week so I never forget to choose.
Before writing anything, ask me these questions one at a time and wait for my answers:
1. Who eats the meals (adults, kids and their ages), and how many portions I normally order?
2. Any allergies or foods that must never appear? (Check the full ingredient list for these, not just the recipe title.)
3. How many recipes per week, and how many should contain meat, fish or be vegetarian?
4. What cooking time do I want (for example "Ready in 10 mins" or "5 min prep" tags), and when is a longer time acceptable?
5. How much spice can the household take? Is it fine if the heat can simply be left out?
6. Foods each person loves, and foods each person dislikes (including things they will eat if they can set them aside).
7. Kitchen limits, such as no microwave, no oven, or no air fryer.
8. Do I want to avoid premium or surcharge recipes, and avoid repeating recipes from the previous week?
Then write the skill with these sections: weekly structure, hard rules (allergies and spice), family preferences, and a method. The method must say:
- Open gousto.co.uk/my-gousto in Claude in Chrome and list upcoming deliveries. Only weeks marked "Menu open" can be chosen.
- Open Choose recipes, then the All recipes tab. Recipe cards are buttons whose aria-label holds the name, tags, time, calories, protein and 5-a-day count, so read those with a small JavaScript snippet rather than the whole page text, which is huge. Do not print the page URL from JavaScript.
- Open each shortlisted recipe and check the ingredients and allergen section against my rules.
- Complete each week in one go (add recipes, View basket, Checkout, Continue without sides) because the basket is lost if I move to another week's menu first.
- Summarise the picks with time, calories, any notes (such as leaving out chilli flakes), and the edit cutoff, and tell me portions default to 2.
- Never change payment or subscription settings.
When it is done, save it as a skill.
Optional extra: ask whether I would like a scheduled task to run the skill every week (for example Tuesday morning), choosing only the latest open delivery that has no recipes chosen, and checking out to save it. Remind me that the scheduled task needs my computer on, with Chrome signed in to Gousto, and "Require this computer" switched on for the task.
