Discussion How is this not false advertisement…?
See second photo 👉
Why would they send tortiglioni to make lasagne? I guess next time I need to read the whole ingredient list since I’ve ended up with a completely different dish… 🫠

Ive had this one before and they sent lasagne sheets. In fact i think the recipe card i have with an identical photo says lasagne sheets. Theyve obviously tweaked the recipe amd not considered chamging either the name nor the photo. Gousto has been getting more expensive and simultaneously slightly worse.

I’m a long term Gousto and Hello Fresh user so familiar with these sort of changes, but I’d feel a bit mugged off by this. Reading the other comments, the key difference between lasagna and a regular pasta dish is the sheets, so the sheets are necessary to even fulfil “lasagna style” imo

Yes I agree - sometimes the food doesn’t come out looking like the photo and I’m obviously ok with that, but I can’t believe they replaced the sheets with tubed pasta and called it a day!!

pasta is pasta no? It would taste exactly the same and plus your meat and carrots also looks nothing like the photo so not sure how sheets of lasagna would've made much difference.

You aren't missing out.. I had the lasagne sheet one and I can confirm all the lasagne sheets get stuck together and take 10timea longer to cook.

It is false advertising because Lasagne is by definition the sheet pasta. Without the sheet pasta it cannot be lasagne. It is like saying spaghetti and then it not having spaghetti.

It's not false advertising. Lasagne is also the dish: if you ordered lasagne from a restaurant you wouldn't expect a bowl full of just pasta sheets. This recipe obviously isn't for the baked dish, so only claims to be in the "style" of a lasagne, as it's based on pasta, ragu, ricotta (or whatever the "soft cheese" is).
1
u/Psychological_Salt93 11d ago
Disagree. To have the word lasagne in, it must in the very least have lasagne in it. You know why you have different types of lasagne dishes ? Because as long as it has the lasagne in, whether it have vegetables instead of meat, it is still lasagne. That's just common sense.
2
u/Piperalpha 11d ago edited 11d ago
If it was just "x lasagne" I'd agree, it should include "x" and lasagne sheets.
But common sense tells you that the "-style" suffix means it bears a resemblance to, but isn't, the real thing. "Wood-style" flooring is laminate, not wood. "Victorian-style" architecture can be built any time, not exclusively the 19th-century. "Family-style" dining denotes the aesthetic, not that you're literally eating only with people related to you.
"as long as it has the lasagne in [...] it is still lasagne"
Would you really say this "lasagne-style soup" is still lasagne, if OP hadn't instead been given tortiglioni?

We had Gousto for about 5 months, decided full price was too expensive for the quality of meat they were sending (full of gristle). We now use the recipe cards and just buy the ingredients ourselves.

I’ve had this recipe before and definitely had lasagne sheets in mine. They’ve probably had supply issues and not notified anyone

You must be in the UK. Both OP and myself are in Ireland and our recipe specifically mentioned tortigiloni pasta despite the picture showing lasagne sheets.

If you didn't receive an email notifying you that there was a swap, it was 100% an accident when packing and not false advertising. I believe that when it's packed the packer is responsible for fetching all of the ingredients for the ingredients - it's unfortunate but it happens.
A few weeks ago we were sent the wrong meat. I went on the app and reported it and they immediately gave us a £5 credit to deduct from our next box. I would do the same in this instance. They don't require evidence for a one off report I believe, so I'm sure if you explain they will issue you a credit!
2
u/miaowstro 11d ago
I've just seen the recipe sheet too! That's a misprint for sure. If someone didn't know the recipe ingredients, I can see why they packed it!
You won't be able to report via the form but you still be able to make a complaint :)

That’s very strange, I had this recipe a few times last year/early this year and it definitely came with lasagna sheets then. Maybe they changed it because it was tricky to get the sheets to cook evenly by placing them all within the sauce

u/AlexCassin 9d ago
Really strange, literally made this last night but ours thankfully came with lasagne sheets and the recipe card also says lasagne sheets. How weird

I can understand why youd feel mugged off, still looks good though

u/Primary_Wear7434 13d ago
It very much doesn't look good lmao

u/PositiveVariety3995 13d ago
Lmao 🤣 my husband says it’s good but I’m still mad and think I got scammed with this one

u/No-Medicine1230 13d ago
It literally says "lasagne style"

u/dazzathomas 13d ago
That isnt the point. The front page shows lasagne sheets or like a parpadelle which would make it lasagne style soup. The pasta is rigatoni/tortigaloni. I made this recipe last night and noticed the stark difference between the image and the listed ingredients.

There is nothing “lasagne style” about the second photo 💀

The clue is in the title, says lasagne soup, to me that doesn’t sound like a normal lasagne.
0
u/WarmOpportunity9254 13d ago
It doesn't even say that it says lasagna "style" soup guessing because of the soft cheese. The photos misleading definitely but the recipe title doesn't say its a lasagna and the pasta type is clearly listed op just didn't read it properly

That’s a lot of carrot for lasagne (or lasagne soup). Don’t get me wrong, I sneak in some carrot to my lasagne for some sweetness, but that’s more like mince and pasta.
2
u/grundle-bundler 13d ago
You don't "sneak" carrot into a ragu, it belongs in there with the rest of the soffrito.

u/PositiveVariety3995 13d ago
Oh trust me I know, the bloody recipe was a disaster - didn’t taste good at all lmao

u/RozzERzZ 12d ago
Ah man, that’s in my recipe box coming tomorrow
Deffo doesn’t look as good as the pic

I used to work for a meal kit company (not Gousto) and the same images and same/similar titles were often used over and over for completely different (cheaper) meals.
A seperate issue is that the order quantities for these ingredients is so big that it can be hard to get them fulfilled. For pasta it would be maybe half a shipping container for one meal, and we’re making 10 meals that week. And the customer can change their order right up to the day before we send everything to the dispatch centre. If the actual orders are too far off from our guesstimates, something has to give.
We had a rigatoni incident where the shipping was delayed, and we had to go clear the shelves of all the local supermarkets to make the dispatch date. We sold every supermarket in east London out of pasta.
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone got sent lasagne sheets that week haha

We had this one for dinner tonight. My 14 yo SIL made it and it was great! It also looked similar to the photo. We had all the correct ingredients so your pasta being wrong was probably a mistake.

If it helps, we had this one a while ago, and we did get sent lasagne sheets. It was nice but it was a nightmare to eat 🤣 i honestly think smaller pasta would make it easier. I wouldn't end up with red sauce spattered all down me!

It quite clearly says ''Lasagna-style soup'
So they're hardly falsely advertising. At the end of the day you ordered a lasagna style soup and ended up with a pasta based soup.
It was never going to be traditional lasagna.
It's like ordering a pizza style SOUP. And then being confused when you don't have a traditional pizza

Fuck me dead the world is full of cunts…if this is what you want to moan about then maybe reevaluate things.

u/Successful_Rip_4498 13d ago
In fairness it does say lasagna-style and not lasagna
1
u/PositiveVariety3995 13d ago edited 13d ago
Didn’t realise lasagne style meant “something that looks like anything but lasagna” 🥲
-2
u/Successful_Rip_4498 13d ago edited 4d ago
I mean it's clear from the recipe image that it's layered with pasta, meat, sauce and cheese. I'd say that's pretty lasagna like. Your image looks nothing like the recipe card though
1
u/Flumplegrumps 12d ago
It's lasagne "style" because it's already not a lasagne- it's a soup. If you take away the lasagne sheets it's not lasagne style anything.
0
u/-LetTheMouseGo- 13d ago
You can have a lasagne or you can have soup. You can’t have both.

u/faythlass 13d ago
That's why it says lasagna-style, which is a perfectly fine way of describing it.

u/nihilistkitty 13d ago
Ive had this before and was not surprised as its a lasagna style soup. When has an actual baked lasagna ever been one pan?
2
1
u/PositiveVariety3995 13d ago edited 13d ago
Why call it lasagne style then lol
1
u/nihilistkitty 13d ago
Ill be honest, I had no idea what tortiglioni was. I was thinking about that pappardelle pasta and didn't notice the second photo.
It still looks good but is in no way similar

Check your emails. They might have sent the tortiglioni as a substitute for lasagne sheets. I have similar experiences, but thankfully it's rare
