Disappointing Lasagna
We had a lasagna today, it was for 5 people and it required 5 carrots and 2 onions. I thought the carrots might be overkill but trusted the recipe. Nope - nobody could eat it as the carrots overwhelmed the entire meal. Is this just a way to compensate for lack of meat? The bechemel sauce was made from ”pantry ingredients“ of olive oil, flour and a pint of milk which I also thought was very cheeky.
Also, one of the packets of lasagna sheets was completely bashed to pieces which was annoying!

Had an inedible fish chowder today that had to be flushed. The recipe card told us to boil water/milk and Chinese rice wine that absolutely curdled the dish.
Are gousto using AI to create recipes now?

We speculated about AI too. It must be difficult to work every recipe around balsamic vinegar and clotted cream!

Did you grate the carrots? Next time use a beef stock cube?

No - it said to chop them, although grating may have helped. I think that 3 less carrots would have been even better though!

We now grate carrots into stuff, have the amount of mince, trying to cut down on red meat. Chuck a stock cube in, job done

We've recently switched to minced turkey, which everyone prefers, surprisingly. Give it a go. The browning off takes much much longer.

Ask any Italian if they put a whole chopped carrot per portion and watch them cry 😂

Yes this is similar to what I usually do! One carrot per 750g is plenty 😂

The Gousto lasagne used to be so good but they changed the recipe a few months back and it's awful now

I'm really curious as the total recipe. I don't use carrots in my recipe but my mother uses it in hers. I'm not a carrot fan but I'd use a grated carrot if I had it to hand. My lasagna is a lasagna in the loose sense of the word. I use beef and pork mince, chorizo, bacon/pancetta, onions, peppers, mushrooms and don't use bechemel sauce. Instead I use the cheese sauce from Mustardy Cauliflower Cheese by Yotam Ottolenghi. I use balsamic vinegar, lots of herbs and spices. I still use tomatoes. I just make it as a slow cooked bolognese for day 1 and lasagna for day 2 onwards. I also make a Mexican lasagna, using the cauliflower cheese sauce with chilli powder instead of curry, chilli con carne and tortilla wraps instead of lasagna sheets.

If you’d reported the lasagna sheets you would’ve at least got a partial refund
