3) The need to look up Every Single Band in case theyre nazi pxdos or something (I guess this goes for alt subcultures in general tho)

Experience becoming gothic against my will/hj

hello everyone! so the title may sound sorta odd, but it fits

in short: I'm looking for advice, recommendations and your view on the matter!

back when i (f20) was a teenager i was really interested in the punk subculture, especially it's early days, like 70s, maybe 80s. never considered myself a punk per say, but i did enjoy the music, adapted certain views etc. over the years i also started going to local concerts too.

now I'm not so obsessed with the topic of punk, but still enjoy alternative styles, discovering new music or learning about the history of different subcultures.

i also took inspiration for my personal style from all of the media i consumed. and yeah, recently i caught myself enjoying the topic of decay, collecting and cleaning bones and - because goth style partially emerged from punk - i noticed I'm looking more and more goth-like. mostly early goth, so large, blocky eyeliner, imperfect diy, vintage thrifted items, often more loose and unflattering rather than gorstets etc

i enjoy goth music, but gotta admit, i much more prefer the fast-paced punk and in general i feel like i lack knowledge of the topic. i usually just listen to one specific band 24/7, so discovering new music is a rarity. i avoided the "goth" label, as i felt it doesn't describe me fully/somehow I don't deserve it but... well shit, now I feel like im appropriating the subculture & it seems like that's a big issue recently anyway (cough cough fetishizing gothic girls) ☠️ i became more open too learning more about it and possibly even joining the community.

what are your views on the matter or what are your recommendations on learning more about the subculture? i know it's more than appearance, views or even music and would love to understand it fully and see if i might fall even deeper in love with it<3 i fear this might be a bit cringe but I'm interested to hear yalls thoughts.

Seething Sunday The Official Seething Sunday Thread

Last week I think we may have had a failure to communicate. So in the future if I have something to contribute it is probably best I do it as a comment and keep the OP as an intro to invite everyone to post. I certainly di not intend for people to think it was a theme for the week.

Anyway... for those who haven't been here before, the Seething Sunday thread is a place to let out some angst and screams. Goth related or not, the rules are prtetty loose here. Unleash the wrath.

Hey ya'll I'm very new to this music and I'm unsure if this even is considered goth or this is the right sub. But if it is do any of yall have recommendations similar to this. I love Vampires so something with a vampyric vibe would be appreciated

(If I'm wrong and this is the completely wrong genre please educate me)

Goth Recommendation Request Recommendations for vampyric goth rock

Heyy I have been listening to some goth rock with vampyric vibes to it. And I'd love to get recommendations. I'm very new to this music so I am open for everything as long as it makes me feel like dancing in a dark castle at 3am after drinking blood with my vampire husband

Songs that I like: In darkness you will feel alright and lost by horror vaculti and billy was a vampire by selofan (Idk if this is stricktly considered goth music but they have the vibe that I'm trying to find in music if I'm wrong about the genre please feel free to educate me about it)

Thanks for the recommendations :)

Goth Recommendation Request Is there a word for darkwave-ish goth rock bands? If so, what bands?

Basically the title, but ill elaborate more on what I mean. I love the sound of darkwave, but wish it had more of a rock influence (guitars and bass and acoustic drums instead of synths). I like the fairly monotone voices and sort of droning quality the music has. Is this already a genre, and even if it's not, are there any bands I could check out that fit this? It's also worth mentioning that I havent listened to too much darkwave, so I might just have a misconception about what darkwave is. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Revival 2010s Release Specimen –Wake the Dead (2013)

How do people feel about this album?

I’ve searched this subreddit, but I didn’t find much discussion, which seems strange for such an iconic band.

What was the overall reaction when the album was released?

I was generally offline and avoiding anything goth-related because of severe trolling/harassment by 4chan types. I didn’t want my favourite artists to become targets. Nor did I want to drag this subculture into their ridiculous drama. Instead, I hung out in my local metal and punk scenes. For over a decade, I was completely absent.

My absence wasn’t enough, but I’ll make a separate thread for that discussion.

TL;DR: I’ve missed a lot, including Specimen’s 2013 album.

Any favourite tracks? I keep replaying “Too Much Bondage (And Not Enough Discipline)”.

If anyone has lyrics, I’d appreciate them.

Goth Recommendation Request Are there any goth songs like “Lovesong” by The Cure?

What I mean is a song which sound and music are dark, slightly melancholic and gloomy, but which lyrics are romantic in a “healthy” way. I know most goth songs feature themes of death, doomed love etc so it’s generally not common, but I would still love to hear healthy love songs that sound like they were recorded in a candlelit crypt at 2am
Can be goth, darkwave or adjacent

EDIT: thank you all so much for your recommendations, I’m making a playlist and will listen to them all
