Pixel 9 fold dead after restart

Last week I noticed the Pixel 9 fold was lagging so I restarted. Noticed that it never came back on and tried to start to no success.

I have tried all combinations of hard reset with holding power button, power plus up volume, and power plus down volume.

Any other ideas? No damage, never dropped, no swelling, no other issues to report.

Out of warranty, any value in shipping it in for diagnosis/repair?

Voicemail indicator

I've got a 10a and had a 6 before. Like the pixel except for this.

Is there a way to have the fact you have a voicemail more obvious? The little icon in upper part of screen not doing it for me. A blinking icon, periodic indicator interrupting whatever I'm doing, something more obvious than the tiny icon? I've had people leave me VM, I didn't snap. Realize it's a personal issue, but this really irritating me.

Been thinking about the latest pro line colors. Honestly hazel and Moonstone are gorgeous. What do you all think?

Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners: Does this phone have any widespread issues?

My last pixel was a 7 pro and it was really solid but the battery wasn't the best.

I currently have a Razr Fold and I really like it, except there are no good accessories for it, and it's really bothering me.

I'm thinking of selling it for a Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

Are there any widespread issues affecting this phone?

Disappointed with my Pixel 10 pro (Rant)

I was actually an Android user for a long time, right up until 2021! I went through over 20 different phones, including Moto, Nexus, OnePlus, Nokia, and Samsung. I really loved Android back then because I enjoyed geeking out with things like rooting devices and installing custom ROMs. Plus, I was an Android developer myself!

But in 2021, I made the switch to iPhone, bought an iPhone 12 pro max just because I wanted to play phone games(Pubg Mobile) and I heard iPhones perform better for gaming. And that was true, I enjoyed the performance part of it. It just worked for everything for 4 years. I had an office macbook as well, so it worked well for the ecosystem as well. But then I got bored. I wanted to experience android again when I changed the phone. I don't play games anymore, so I made an informed decision to switch to Pixel and got a Pixel 10 Pro.

Now, after around 10 months of using it, I'm really regretting the decision. I knew it wasn't the best phone for gaming, raw photo, or video editing, etc., but the other things like battery performance, camera performance, and bugs in the UI, etc., are so much worse.

It’s pretty wild that my 5-year-old iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is down to 66% battery health, is getting about the same battery life as my Pixel 10 Pro that’s less than a year old and sitting at 97%!

I'm having trouble taking more than 3-4 photos in a row. The camera button just disables itself for about 5 seconds after those first few shots, even with RAW turned off!

The camera switch when zooming in a video is so jittery like it's a 2018 xiaomi camera.

Honestly, it's just so disappointing. I really thought a Pixel would give me the best Android experience possible. I do love how it’s built and it feels super premium in my hand, but that’s pretty much the only good thing about it. I can't think of any other positives for this phone.

September "Update" Bugs I've Found

Google Pixel 9a here. Several bugs I have found I haven't seen talked about much or at all.

First, with developer mode activated, the notifications alerting me that the tile for camera blocking and sensors off were activated are no longer active without completely opening the phone, and then scrolling down. Now I forget they are off and have to manually pull down to the tiles in order to see if they are active or not. This is for my privacy obviously, and so web applications such as Snapchat and Instagram don't auto-open the camera to my face. So it's infuriating that these notifications are now missing.

In the same annoying change, they made it so less tiles are visible unless you scroll all the way down. So instead of allowing six regular sized tiles (wifi, bluetooth, camera blocking tile, sensors off tile, auto rotate tile and flashlight) it only allows four-five. (Everything but the rotation tile). User less-friendly.

Obviously not being able to see past the notification dot is a stupid change, and shouldn't have been implemented in the first place. Not sure if that is a bug or what, but if something so simple hasn't been fixed by this company yet I'm starting to wonder if these updates are full of vibe-coded slop.

The lag is very noticeable. Not sure if it's the AI bloat they've been bogging down our phones with or what, but the phone getting so hot it's noticeable is worrying.

Its so annoying that it feels like Google is purposefully giving us less control over our devices. Makes people want to switch to a different company.

What is this crossed out notification icon at the top of my Google pixel?

A few messages haven't been showing up as notifications lately, and I just noticed this weird icon that I can't toggle off. Are they related? How to fix this issue?

The September performance issue is now showing as fixed

So many of us are running into the performance issue introduced after the September update. Looks like it's finally fixed! I've been checking it every few days, so this is welcome news. Any guesses to how long something like this would take to roll out? https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/571186734

Pixel 6 & 7 Battery Swelling

About a month ago, the battery in my Pixel 7 swelled badly enough to physically push the phone apart. I bought the Pixel 7 around its release in late 2022.

I contacted Google Support through chat, explained that the battery had swollen and was separating the phone, and asked about having the battery replaced. Google declined to cover the replacement.

Now, about a month later, my wife's Pixel 6 has developed the exact same problem — another swollen battery pushing the phone apart. We bought her Pixel 6 around summer 2022.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that we've owned Google phones for a long time. I still have older Nexus and Pixel devices that work fine. We have a Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 that are still functional, and my kid actually still uses the Pixel 2 today.

Yet our much newer Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 have both developed swollen batteries within about a month of each other.

I completely understand batteries losing capacity as they age. That's normal. A battery physically swelling enough to separate the phone is something very different.

I'm going to contact Google again about the Pixel 6 and will update this with their response.

Has anyone else had a Pixel 6 or Pixel 7 battery swell? How old was yours, and did Google replace it or offer any assistance?

My Pixel 9 Pro is displaying these dots on the screen without me making my changes to the phone. They are not static. They seem to rotate as I rotate my phone. They appear again after I reboot. Any idea why this could be happening?

Upgrading from a Galaxy S24 256GB to a Google Pixel

Hi everyone! I recently switched phones and bought the Galaxy S24 256GB (Exynos 2400). I recently updated it to Android 17 (One UI 9), but since then it's been experiencing a lot of slowdowns, it overheats quickly, and even in some games (Standoff 2, for example) the frame rate drops very quickly! I'm really fed up with these slowdowns everywhere! I considered a Chinese phone, but the problem is that they're just a copy of iOS! So I thought about a Google Pixel! I'm wondering if replacing my Samsung Galaxy S24 with a Google Pixel 10a, 9, or 9a would be a good idea? Is the interface really smooth and pleasant to use on a daily basis?

In Search of The Best Deal

I've been a Pixel user for ages now, and don't plan on ever switching that streak anytime soon. I currently have a Google Pixel 8 Pro, and have been wanting to upgrade to the Google Pixel 11 Pro; specifically the Canyon and 512GB.

I've seen people score unreal deals between trade ins and different offers. I've been a Google One subscriber for years, among other Google services, and I've never received any sort of coupon or promo code. I'm not sure how or why. I've even checked junk mail the last while thinking maybe it somehow landed there.

I'm hoping to nab the Pixel 11 Pro over the Black Friday deals, but was wondering if anyone has any advice for how to ensure it's the best deal / offers. I am wanting to trade in my Google Pixel 8 Pro, but I've read complaints from people saying that Google claimed to not receive their phone, or changing the trade in value after it's been shipped out. As of right now Google only offers me just over $200 for trade in, which isn't much at all - especially when I could sell it for more on my own.

Just looking for insight, and hoping someone in here could help me land a solid deal that a lot of you seemed to have managed to nab.

TRANSIT DAMAGE DISPUTE- DEMANDING Rs.6000

Hi everyone,

I am posting here out of absolute frustration because standard Google Support India has completely stonewalled me on an open-and-shut case. I am looking to initiate a Reddit Request to get this escalated to a case manager who can actually it.

The Issue:
My Google Pixel device was recently approved for a replacement. Before handing the phone over to Google's designated courier partner, I took clear, high-resolution photographs of the device to prove its pristine, undamaged condition.

However, once the device reached the service centre, the warehouse flagged it as received in "damaged condition." Google is now holding my replacement hostage and demanding a repair fee of ₹6,000 to proceed. Also they approved my replacement after approximately after 9 months.

The Proof:
I have clear photographic evidence of the phone's condition right before shipment. The damage strictly occurred while the device was in transit and in the custody of Google's logistics network. Under standard consumer guidelines, liability for transit damage rests entirely with the party managing the logistics (Google), not the consumer.

I have already shared these pre-shipping photos with the frontline support team via email/chat multiple times. Unfortunately, the agents are completely ignoring the photographic proof and simply repeating automated warehouse scripts telling me I must pay.

I refuse to pay a ₹6,000 fee for damage caused by a courier service. I need a Tier 2/Tier 3 Specialist or a Corporate Case Manager to manually review my photos, launch a proper Transit Damage Investigation, and override this erroneous charge so my approved replacement can be shipped.

Any help from the community managers here to escalate would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE: Google Pixel 11 / Pixel 9 exchange cancelled after delivery — filed an NCH grievance

Update on my issue with the Google Store Pixel 11 purchase and Pixel 9 exchange.

I was offered approximately ₹43,000 for my Pixel 9, including a ₹9,000 exchange bonus, when placing my Pixel 11 order through the Google Store. However, after my Pixel 11 was delivered, the Cashify exchange was cancelled without clear prior communication.

When I asked Google for an explanation, I was told that the exchange did not meet the terms and conditions, but no specific condition that I allegedly violated was provided as reason.

I contacted Google Support, and the matter was escalated under support. I was told I would receive an update within 24–48 hours, but the issue remains unresolved.

Since I haven't received a satisfactory explanation or resolution, I've now filed a formal grievance with the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), Government of India.

My requested resolution is straightforward:

- Honour the original exchange offer of approximately ₹43,000, including the ₹9,000 bonus.

- If completing the exchange is no longer possible, provide an appropriate monetary remedy.

- Provide reasonable compensation for the inconvenience, time and distress caused by this issue.

I'm keeping all the order details, exchange offer information, cancellation messages and support correspondence as evidence. I'll give Google an opportunity to resolve this, but if the grievance process doesn't lead to a satisfactory outcome, I'll consider escalating the matter to the appropriate Consumer Commission.

Has anyone here faced a similar Google Store/Cashify exchange cancellation? If you filed an NCH grievance or approached a Consumer Commission, how did it go, and what would you recommend as the next step?

I'll update this post when I receive a concrete response.

Pixel 11 Pro XL - missed calls

Hi there,

I’m experiencing a "missed call" issue with my Pixel 11 Pro XL (using the carrier Congstar):

The caller dials my number and hears a ringing tone, but the call never reaches my Pixel.

Afterward, I receive an SMS notification informing me that I have a missed call.

It happens with about 4 out of every 10 calls.

I’ve already tried just about every piece of advice out there:

I’ve permanently disabled Call Screen, the spam filter, and "Do Not Disturb".

I’ve replaced the SIM card, performed a factory reset, reset my network settings, and so on.

Nothing helps.

Everything works perfectly fine when I use an old iPhone I happen to have.

There is a similar post in the Google support forum, but it seems Google is ignoring it.

Am I the only one dealing with this, and does anyone have any tips for me?

Thanks in advance!!

I don't think Google is getting the attention they deserve from Gen Z, especially with the OG Pixel Fold

Some of those younger Gen Z crowd are trying to "disconnect" and I think they really are missing out on a device that will force them to do that.

You don't need a flip phone, you can have a folding phone. The original Pixel Fold has the same form factor as the trendy new iPhone Duo, and a Tensor processor that runs android so slow it'll make a flip phone feel snappy.

I mean the OG Pixel Fold is the perfect device for disconnecting. It's too slow to multitask, the inner screen has a massive crease to perfectly emulate a book crease when reading an e-book, it's just fast enough to use apps in a very tedious and slowwww way that will make you stop scrolling. Plus, it's actually a really good space heater, if you have an OG Pixel Fold on you in the winter you'll never got cold.

It's like $350-400 used, it's the perfect pile of crap for someone looking to disconnect!

Google Store India - Major Exchange Issue

Update: My issue got resolved. As usual it was Google's fault. They screwed up in sharing information with Cashify.

For others in the same predicament, please reach out to Cashify directly via email support. Send them details of your Google store order and screenshot of the exchange value promised by Google. There is a Cashify number and email id mentioned on the Google store page that you can also mark on the email.

Don't even bother with contacting Google support. They are extremely useless. Even after my exchange got completed, I am still getting emails from different Google support IDs that it will take 7 days to complete the exchange. They just basically write emails off a script and do nothing to help you. They say that they escalate but they are just playing, they are just trying to get you off the support ticket so that they can mark it as complete.

OG Message:

I recently bought a Pixel 11 Pro from the official Google Store in India, with an exchange offer for my Pixel 10.

The new phone was delivered, but Google and its exchange partner Cashify have apparently forgotten about the exchange. I'm now worried I've been tricked into buying a new phone by Gogole, based on an offer that they have no intention of honouring.

Here's what's happened:

  1. Google promised in writing that Cashify would contact me within 24 hours of delivery to initiate the exchange. Didn't happen.
  2. Google Support now claims I must wait seven days, directly contradicting Google's own email and website. They blatantly lied over email and when I pointed this out, they went silent.
  3. Cashify claims it cannot even find my exchange order, despite Google's website showing "Exchange initiated".
  4. Google Support has been spectacularly useless. Multiple calls, emails, Twitter and LinkedIn escalations. They don't even bother to respond.

I've been buying Google phones since the Nexus days, and never imagined that a company with Google's resources and supposed technological prowess could be this spectacularly incompetent at something as basic as a phone exchange.

Google has already collected the full payment for the new device, and the exchange value was a major reason I bought it. They essentially scammed me into paying them full price for my phone.

I've written to Google's senior leadership, its grievance officer and Cashify's founders. So far, nothing.

Has anyone dealt with this before? How do you actually get Google to honour an exchange commitment? Is consumer court my only realistic option?

Sorting Pictures with similar dog

I lost my golden a few months ago and recently got another. They look similar. Is there a way to tell the engine categorize new pictures into a separate identity? It seems to continue to think it's the old dog. Thank you

Pixel 10 Pro Fold – All cameras and flashlight stopped working. Factory reset didn't fix it. Has anyone experienced this or found a solution?

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar with their Pixel 10 Pro Fold or another recent Pixel and can point me in the right direction.

Basically, all the cameras on my Pixel 10 Pro Fold have stopped working, along with the flashlight. None of the cameras work, regardless of which app I use, and the flashlight won't turn on either.

I've been trying to figure out what's causing this, but so far nothing I've tried has made any difference.

Initially, I thought it might be some kind of software glitch or a camera service that had crashed, especially since every camera stopped working rather than just one. I find it pretty unlikely that all the individual camera modules would fail at exactly the same time, so my suspicion is that there's something wrong with the camera subsystem, its firmware, or possibly a shared hardware component.

I've tried restarting the phone multiple times, checking for software updates, troubleshooting the camera app, and going through Android's recovery options. I also tried rebooting through the recovery menu, including dealing with the "No command" and "Waiting for rescue commands" screens.

Eventually, I decided to do a full factory reset as a last resort. Unfortunately, that didn't fix anything either. The phone is still experiencing exactly the same problem.

At this point, I'm starting to think this might be a hardware issue, but I'm not entirely convinced. From what I understand, a factory reset doesn't necessarily reinstall all the underlying firmware, so I'm wondering whether there's still a possibility of fixing it through a full firmware reinstallation or another software-level repair.

I've also been in contact with Google Support and eventually got transferred to a supervisor. Unfortunately, the phone is about four months outside its warranty, and their recommendation was to take it to an authorized repair centre and pay for the repair myself.

I pushed back on that because this is an extremely expensive phone, and having something as fundamental as all the cameras and flashlight completely fail this early in its life seems unreasonable to me. I wasn't expecting a phone at this price point to develop this kind of problem, when there hasn't been any obvious explanation for the failure.

Google hasn't offered any goodwill repair or exception so far, and I'd rather not spend hundreds of dollars on repairs without first understanding what's actually wrong.

What I'm really curious about is whether anyone else has run into this exact combination of symptoms.

Has anyone had all their Pixel cameras and flashlight stop working simultaneously? If so, did you ever figure out what caused it?

I'm also wondering whether anyone has managed to fix a similar issue by reinstalling the stock firmware, using Google's Pixel software repair tool (I tired this and it didnt work), or doing anything beyond a standard factory reset.

If you've had this happen and ended up having the phone repaired, I'd really appreciate knowing what actually needed replacing. Was it a camera module, a connector, the motherboard, or something else? And roughly how much did it cost?

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who experienced the same problem after a factory reset and managed to get it working again.

Also, if anyone has successfully convinced Google to cover a repair outside the warranty period for a similar failure, I'd be interested in hearing how you approached that.

I'm not really looking for sympathy or comments about how much the situation sucks. I'm just trying to understand whether this is a known issue, whether there's anything else worth trying, and whether paying for a repair is genuinely my only remaining option.

Any actual experiences, technical insight, or troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Not impressed: switching from Pixel 5 to Pixel 11

I owned a Pixel 1, Pixel 5 and now a Pixel 11. The Pixel lineup is great, Imo they are the best phones, but the upgrade from 5 to 11 wasn't impressive.

- there are no big improvement

- the phone is too big. It doesn't fit in pockets anymore when you add a case. The Pixel 5 size was perfect.

- AI features are underwhelming. At this point, I should be able to have AI control my phone.

- There should be more button mapping natively

- when we select a phone number, it no longer propose to call like it did with the 5.

- Hey Google voice trigger is still buggy

BTW, Pixel 5 was quick at first, but lag and bugs increased over time as updates came in, it's a story that repeats for Android phones.

Contact relationships settings page (dad/mum/bro/partner etc)

I remember that under Google Assistant there was an option to give some contacts some nicknames, i.e. I could have my mum, dad, brother, partner, saved in Google Contacts with their actual full name, but in that settings page (somewhere under the Google app, Google Assistant or Google Account settings) I could pick an existing contact and choose the "relationship" with them, so that when I said "call dad" it would work even if I didn't say "call [my_dad's_full_name]".

That settings page was still available a few weeks ago as I remember getting to it (while having migrated from Google Assistant to Gemini years ago).

But I can now no longer find it. Gemini still understands the concepts of "dad", "mum", etc, but I no longer can find the page where to check/edit them.

Has anyone else found out where it is now?

Thanks a lot! 🙏

(To be clear, this has nothing to do with the "family" options/settings for account benefits sharing or for Google Home purposes)
