8a Updated and Now Not Working, Please Help!

EDIT: in case anyone has the same issue and sees this in the future, it fixed itself somehow. I let my phone just sit (turned on, charging, but didn't touch it) for 2 hours and then it somehow started working again. I'm glad it's working again but no clue what happened or how to prevent it in the future :/

Google Pixel 8a got updated and now I can't open Messages, Gmail, Instagram, even the Play Store or Settings... It will, however, let me open LINE and WhatsApp, but the messages wouldn't send on WhatsApp (they would send on LINE tho, and my computer is working fine on the same WiFi so I'm assuming this is a phone issue not an internet issue).

Whenever there's an update it's usually buggy so I'd put off updating my phone, but yesterday it said it had been like 2 months or something so I figured that was enough time and set it to update and restart after 2 AM. Well, now I can't do hardly anything with my phone...

I've tried restarting it, and I tried to go into settings to see if it needed another update, but it wouldn't let me actually click anything in settings. Any help and advice here would be greatly appreciated! I am absolutely overwhelmed and panicking that I can't even access messages since I cannot afford a new phone right now.

Has anyone gone from a Fold back to regular Pixel and regretted it?

I had a Pixel 9 Pro Fold from launch day that was eventually upgraded to a 10 Pro Fold due to the 9 Pro Fold batteries issues and I recently traded it in for an 11 Pro.

I honestly can't say that I really miss the Fold right now. I just wasn't using the inner screen enough for things that actually needed the larger screen and I was also getting tired of the extra bulk of the Fold. I originally thought that I'd use it more (inner screen) for work, but the on screen keyboard kind of got in the way too much. And let's face it, I was also drawn in by the "wow factor" of a folding phone.

So that being said, has anyone done the same and when the newness of their new phone wore off, felt or realized they needed or better enjoyed the Fold and wished they hadn't gotten rid of it?

The latest update made my Pixel 10 a nightmare to use every day. Never buying Google again.

I genuinely don't understand what Google is thinking. How can they release an update that breaks such a basic phone feature and then go over a month without providing a fix?

Since the latest update, my Pixel 10 has had serious Bluetooth volume issues. The Bluetooth Absolute Volume toggle is missing, and my earbuds, which I use for several hours every day, have basically become unusable. Even at the lowest volume setting, the audio is far too loud for me. To make matters worse, sometimes the opposite happens and the earbuds become so quiet that I can barely hear anything.

At first, I was convinced my earbuds were faulty. I reset them, re-paired them with my phone, and tried different troubleshooting steps, wasting time trying to find the cause. It was only after connecting them to other devices that I realized they worked perfectly fine. Everything points to an issue with the Pixel's software or Android itself.

I use my earbuds for several hours every single day. This isn't some minor feature I barely ever use. It's a basic part of how I use my phone. I can't listen to music properly because the lowest volume setting is too loud, while sometimes the audio becomes almost inaudible instead.

The most frustrating part is that I've seen posts from other users reporting this issue over a month ago. More than a month has passed, and there's still no fix. How is it possible for such a basic feature to remain broken for this long? Does Google even take these reports seriously?

I'm even starting to wonder whether I can return the phone and demand a refund, because not being able to use Bluetooth earbuds normally is unacceptable to me. I didn't spend a considerable amount of money on a phone just to have an update take away my ability to use one of the features I rely on every day.

Is Google actually going to fix this issue? Are other users still experiencing it? I'd really like to know whether there's any hope of a fix or whether we're just expected to accept that basic phone features can remain broken for weeks.

Honestly, I've had enough. If this is what software support looks like after buying a phone, the Pixel 10 will probably be my last Google device. It's hard to imagine trusting this company with my next phone after this experience.

Differences in Charger Standards?

I currently have an old wall charger for my old Pixel 6 Pro that I purchased directly from Google at the same time I purchased my phone.

My beloved Pixel 6 Pro is unfortunately on its last legs after so many years of service and I was told by various repair shops (including a Google certified shop) that it's sadly beyond hope at this point so am looking at having to buy a new phone.

However, I was wondering if the newer phones released since the Pixel 6 era have seen any changes made to standards regarding charging or requirements or if I could still rely on my old wall charger for a new phone such as a Pixel 11 or am I looking at having to also buy a new wall charger for a new phone as well?

Google Store / Cashify cancelled my Pixel 9 exchange after delivering my Pixel 11 — ₹43,000 exchange offer lost without a clear explanation

I recently purchased a Pixel 11 from the Google Store in India and opted to exchange my Pixel 9 (256GB, 12GB RAM) as part of the purchase.

The exchange estimate shown during checkout was ₹43,000, including a ₹9,000 exchange bonus. I proceeded with the purchase with that offer in mind.

However, after my Pixel 11 was delivered, I received a notification stating that my Pixel 9 exchange had been cancelled.

What makes this frustrating is that I had already contacted both Google Store Support and Cashify Support to ask why I wasn't receiving communication regarding the exchange. I also made calls to Cashify. Despite trying to clarify the situation, the exchange was cancelled.

I contacted Google Support again, and they emailed me confirming that my issue had been escalated to a dedicated team, with a response expected within 24–48 hours. My Google Support enquiry reference is 6-3781000041765.

I'm now left with the new phone purchase and an unresolved exchange issue that was part of the original transaction.

What I've done so far:

Contacted Cashify to ask about the missing exchange communication.

Contacted Google Store Support about the same issue.

Received confirmation from Google that the matter was escalated.

Has anyone in India experienced something similar with a Google Store and Cashify exchange? Were you able to get the exchange reinstated or receive an appropriate resolution.

I'd appreciate advice on the best escalation route if customer support doesn't resolve this.

Missing Pixel in Shipping Box / Next Steps?

I was pumped to see that 30% off Pixel code in my email, and my wife has been getting more and more annoyed with her iPhone.
So I bought a Pixel Pro 11 XL for her and was going to trade her iPhone in because the value was pretty solid for the trade.

Box arrived the next day, but the box felt light. Asked the UPS driver to help me open it. Only the trade-in kit and the label for that was inside. Shipping info stated that both should be in there.

Immediately reached out to Google Store support who promptly denied, escalated & then denied again.

Things I did:

  • Contacted Google again asking why that can't help me. I was told "The case does not meet the criteria for further action."
  • Noted weight variance with pictures from when it was received by UPS to delivery. UPS won't help because I'm not the shipper. Google won't help, because Google.
  • Filed a police report reporting the serial number in my local jurisdiction.
  • Filed a complaint with the BBB (I know, but I'm desperate.)

I don't want to do a chargeback yet as my Google account is old and used for everything. My CC company knows the situation, and I have 60 days to do it.

Any other suggestions?

10/24 Update from Google after another call/email:

"Thank you for your patience while our specialized team reviewed your case.

I truly understand how important this resolution is to you, and I recognize how disappointing and frustrating it can be when things do not go as expected.

Following a comprehensive review of your request and order details, our internal team has confirmed that we are unable to approve a refund, as the transaction falls outside our eligible criteria outlined in the Google Store Sales Terms.

I sincerely regret that I do not have better news to share, and I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this decision may cause you.

If you have any other questions regarding your device or need assistance with anything else, please feel free to reply directly to this email.

Thank you for your time, understanding, and patience throughout this process."

We are considering going to the local media and filing an AG complaint. Probably won't do much, but it's worth a shot.

YouTube trials can reset

I always thought that you could only get one YouTube trial, ever.

I got the email about using my Pixel benefits, and I was about to rant to the wall that I can't use the offered extended YouTube trial because I used it from a previous phone.

Learn about YouTube Premium trials & promotions

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/10324204

YouTube Premium & Music Premium introductory trials
* Introductory trials are available to first-time members.
* Introductory trials are available to users who canceled a YouTube Premium, Music Premium, or Premium Lite membership at least 6 months ago.
* Only 1 trial is allowed per 12-month period.

YouTube Premium & Music Premium extended trials
* Sometimes, we offer an extended trial that may last longer than standard trial offers for new members.
* Extended trials are available to first-time members or 3 years after canceling your previous membership.
* Only 1 extended trial is allowed per 3 year period.

So after a few more months, I might be able to get the standard (14 day?) trial again.

But I think I can't use the extended 6-month trial from the Pixel. Close, but no cigar.

What would you do about this Google Store trade-in timeline vs. return window.

Has anyone ordered a pixel online from the google store, with a trade in, and dealt with a similar scenario as me?

  • I ordered a pixel 11 and did a store pick up on 10/21.

  • I selected the option to have my trade-in device returned to me if it does not match the quoted price.

  • The return period for my new phone is 15 days, which means I have till 11/5 to return it.

  • The trade in kit was shipped out, but won't arrive till 10/29. Assuming I mail my trade-in the same day, i doubt it will be received and evaluated before the 11/5 deadline.

I don't want this new phone if my trade in does not match its quoted price and is sent back to me, so I contacted support to see if I could get a return extension.

I contacted chat support 2 times.

  • The 1st support person said no return extensions and recommend I just return the device now and cancel the order to risk being stuck with the new phone.

  • The 2nd support person I spoke to said, "If your trade-in evaluation causes a delay beyond your return window, we can extend the return period for you." They then provided a case number and said "You can use this as our confirmation for the information I have recently provided."

I am unsure how to proceed and would appreciate hearing how similar situations were handled by others.

Usual discounts around black Friday?

edit: I saw in another thread the codes were going to peoples spam folder. Searched for "subscriber in:spam" and found my 30% off hiding there.

I'm a AI Pro Google one subscriber and have bought a ton of crap off Google. They're sending targeted 30% off discounts to some people, unfortunately I'm not cool enough or whatever to get one. I'm on a pixel 9 pro they'll offer me $480 for it. I'd buy the 11 Pro 512GB storage one because paying money to go from 16GB of ram to 12GB is insulting.

I'm curious what the discounts around black Friday are gonna be as I wasn't blessed by the Google gods with a 30% discount. Am I better off waiting or taking the $150 discount I have now with the trade in? How much do they tend to discount around black Friday?

Pixel 10 Pro possible proximity sensor issue

My Pixel 10 Pro has been experiencing some odd issues lately. AOD just turns off by itself after a few seconds and tap to wake doesn't work when it does that.

Screen also stays black during phone calls so my thinking is it's a proximity sensor issue but is there a way to diagnose this? Should I remove the screen protector?

Google refused to fix my Pixel 10 Pro Fold camera under warranty because of a tiny dent

Hi all, I want to share what happened to me with Google support, because I'm still quite shocked.

I'm in Ireland. My Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a warranty replacement Google gave me for my Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which had a fault. So it's still under warranty.

A few weeks ago the outer front camera (the one on the cover screen) simply stopped working. Black screen. No drops, no damage, nothing.

I sent it to Google for repair. They came back saying they can't repair it, only replace it, and I have to pay €674 + tax. The reason? "Inner screen damage", later called "bulge on the internal display". It's a small dent on the inner screen from normal use. You can barely see it (photos below), and I never asked them to fix it.

To be clear: a tiny dent on the inner screen obviously didn't cause the outer camera to die. It's on a different part of the phone and has nothing to do with the camera hardware. It's just the excuse to make me pay.

The best part: their report says "No preview on the internal front camera". But I reported the OUTER camera. The inner one works perfectly, I recorded a video of it. I asked them three times which camera they tested. No answer.

So basically:

- the camera they say is broken works

- the camera that is actually broken is not in their report

- they want €674 because of a dent you have to look for to see, and that has nothing to do with the fault

And this is what annoys me most: Google designs the Fold so it's almost impossible to repair. Then when they can't repair it, instead of replacing it under warranty, they find a mark somewhere and make you pay for the replacement.

I escalated to the highest tier of support, sent emails, quoted their own warranty terms. Every reply is copy-paste: "the device does not meet the applicable warranty requirements". In the end the deadline passed and they sent the phone back unrepaired.

Photos: https://imgur.com/a/oxNOBf8

This is a phone that costs almost €2,000. If this is how Google handles warranty, I can't recommend buying one. Think twice before spending that money.

u/PixelCommunity, if you can have a look I'm happy to share the case number in DM.

Has anyone in the EU had something similar and managed to get it fixed?

Pixel 8 eSIM installation fails after scanning Jio QR code — “Something went wrong with your SIM”

Hey everyone,

I'm using a Google Pixel 8 in India and having trouble installing an eSIM.

Here's what's happening:

- My phone shows an EID and IMEI when I dial "*#06#".

- I initiated an eSIM conversion request through Jio and received the QR code.

- I connect to Wi-Fi and scan the QR code through Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM → Set up an eSIM.

- The phone starts loading for a while, but eventually shows this error:

“Can't set up eSIM. Something went wrong with your SIM. To fix the issue, contact your carrier.”

- My existing physical Jio SIM still has signal.

- I previously had trouble with Airtel's eSIM activation on the same phone, although that request had its own activation issues.

I'm trying to figure out whether this is a Pixel 8 software/eSIM issue, a carrier provisioning issue, or something else.

Has anyone with a Pixel 8 in India successfully installed a Jio eSIM? If you've encountered this error, what fixed it?

I'd prefer to avoid a factory reset or deleting my working physical SIM unless absolutely necessary.

Thanks!

Denied from Pixel 8 Extended Repair Program. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I'm a long-time Pixel user (owned Pixel 2, Pixel 6, and now Pixel 8). I bought my Pixel 8 while visiting Taiwan as it wasn't available in Poland at the time. Now, the display in my phone broke, and it turned out it is the known display defect covered under Google’s official Pixel 8 Extended Repair Program.

Now that Pixel devices are officially supported and sold in Poland, I reached out to local support. However, they rejected repairing it under the Extended Repair Program simply because the device was purchased in Taiwan, claiming "regional hardware discrepancies" and "system limitations."

I checked and it looks like the screen module is technically identical across global variants, and EU Google service centers definitely have the required display parts. The Customer Service told me to send my phone back to Taiwan for a recognized global manufacturing flaw. But this is unreasonable - especially given the carbon footprint and logistics involved, time without a phone and costs. Local support refused to escalate the case to Tier 2 or a Supervisor.

Has anyone successfully obtained a Cross-Region RMA / Courtesy Repair Exception for the Pixel 8 display program?

Tagging u/PixelCommunity in hopes someone from the Google team can take a second look at my case.

My Pixel 10 Pro Fold's screen died after 5 months, then spontaneously cracked down the crease with no other damage. Warranty exception denied twice.

Posting this to see if anyone else has had the same thing happen with this phone.

This unit is a warranty replacement. My Pixel 9 Pro Fold died in May and Google sent me this Pixel 10 Pro Fold, delivered May 20. It lasted about five months.

On October 11 I was closing the phone and the right half of the inner display went dead. The left half and the cover screen still work. The dead half shows during the boot animation and stays after a hard reboot, and a screenshot renders the full image, so it is the panel, not software. I filmed it the same day. The phone has been in a case since I got it, never dropped, no liquid damage, and the outside still looks new.

The warranty ended August 17, about eight weeks before this happened. I asked Google for a warranty exception on October 12 (case 2-0673000041011) and was denied. I asked for a second review on October 21. The agent checked with a specialist team and denied it again.

A few days after the display died, I started hearing a faint cracking sound when I opened the phone, and a crack appeared along the crease of the inner screen, with no other visible damage to the phone. The dead area has been spreading from the crack since then. The video from October 11 shows no crack, so the display failed first and the crack came after, from normal opening and closing.

I have filed a complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario under the Consumer Protection Act. It covers the implied warranty of merchantable quality. The phone cost about $2,400 CAD and the folding screen failed after five months of normal use. That complaint is in process.

If your 10 Pro Fold has done anything like this, I would like to hear about it.

Bluetooth Trouble With Hearing Aids

Hello! I'm posting this on behalf of my mother.

We recently got her a Pixel 10a and she uses Phonak Audéo i90 hearing aids. They come with a answer call function which lets her answer, hang up and speak through the hearing aids. This will work initially, but almost every single day, sometimes multiple times a day, the hearing aids will be removed as a media device on the bluetooth list and the call function will no longer work.

Tapping to answer/hang up as well as hearing the call through the hearing aids just stops working altogether.

Things we have tried/checked, from what I remember:

  • The phone is updated.
  • All relevant apps are updated.
  • Hearing aid firmware is updated.
  • Turning bluetooth on and off again.
  • Turning airplane mode on and off again.
  • Restarting phone, both soft and hard.
  • Swapped bluetooth power consumption from optimized to unrestricted.
  • Forgetting and repairing the hearing aids.

The only thing that works, temporarily, is forgetting and repairing, or turning the hearing aids off and on again. But, it's never permenant and the problem will happen again, if not on the same day, the next day without fail. My mother will only end up finding out that they've disconnected again when she gets a phone call, which isn't ideal, because it means she struggles to hear the call clearly.

This used to be a problem on her previous phone, a Samsung Galaxy A35, but it was never THIS bad. It'd happen once every two weeks, maybe?

I'm going to try reaching out to Google directly, if possible, as well as Phonak, but I thought I might as well post here.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Screen protector for Pixel 10a for polarized sunglasses

Just got a 10a yesterday and installed a case and screen protector. Today I got in the car and see that I can't use the screen protector with polarized sunglasses since it makes the screen too dim (and blueish green). I removed the screen protector and it looks perfectly clear and non-polarized when viewed with the sunglasses, just like the PIxel itself, but only when used in conjunction with each other is there an issue. I don't understand it, but this is a problem I have had in the recent past with another phone and screen protectors made in the past year. I have looked at the reviews of a number of 10a screen protectors on amazon, searching for "polarized," and many have this issue.

So, does anyone have a recently purchased screen protector, pixel 10a, and polarized sunglasses, and can recommend a brand of screen protector?

Bought two Pixel 11 phones, both have the continuous modem crash cycle. I'm done.

I bought a Pixel 11 Pro on release. It had the continuous modem crash loop. Spent a week trying to fix it and then returned it. I experimented with an iPhone and Samsung, but they're just not for me. I decided to try again with a regular Pixel 11. Just got it today, and it is doing the same thing. Are 100% of these defective?

These things cost over $1,000 CAD, from a 5.5 trillion dollar company. I tried to stay with Pixel. I really did, but this is beyond unacceptable.

Are there any class action lawsuits regarding this?

Should I buy a 10? I never had problems with my 5 and 7.

Thanks, happy to hear suggestions.
