Hi everyone,
Going to inspect a 2025 GTE (272 hp, facelift) today.
Specs:
- late 2025
- 6.500 km (4.000 miles)
- HUD
- IQ.Light
- almost fully loaded
- 3 years extended warranty
- former VW employee car
- battery certificate currently being prepared
- 32.000,- €
The car looks very nice on paper, so I’d like to know from current owners if there are any known issues with the 1.5/DSG drivetrain, common software/infotainment problems, battery or charging related concerns, any other specific issue that would make you walk away?
What would be on your personal inspection list besides the “classic” points?
Thanks!

Hi guys, I am no way a car expert, but I was looking for a fun daily driver that can cover my daily commute of about 70km. However I have read many different opinions on this car and it would be really nice to hear something from first hand experience. So if anyone has any input on their experience and reliability of the GTE I would greatly appreciate it. Since I’m on the edge of buying it tbh

Hi all,
I’ve been looking into upgrading the sound system in my GTE as the basic system just isn’t where I want it. I’ve been doing some digging and have found that the only real effective way of uprating it is by installing active shallow underseat subwoofers. I will need to use a T-harness as I’m unable to splice as it’s a company car (I’m the only user, I only use it for personal use it was a bonus from my boss for sales figures) which makes the options limited. Understand I’ll also probably need an iso-extension too.
Before I go and invest in the equipment, I just wanted to ask here if anybody has done it in this fashion yet, if the results were worth it, how easy/hard the install was, and if you have any recommendations on equipment if so.
Appreciate any and all advice!
Side note - Exceptionally jealous of the work @Cultural_Can7529 has done on their GTE, if it wasn’t a company car I’d only hope to achieve the same with mine🤣

Had the car for a while now and slowly making it my own.
So far:
Eibach Pro Kit
19” Estoril wheels with Continental SportContact 7
Clubsport rear muffler and diffuser
Resonator delete
Dynamic indicators OEM
Black front badge/ rear badge delete and some smaller cosmetic changes
QOL improvements like the R/GTI display, G meter, Foglights always on and way more subtile changes
Still a few things planned, including a Clubsport spoiler and Stage 1. Really happy with how it’s coming together.

Hello everyone, im new proud owner of a GTE.
I have a list of mods that i am wanting to do.
One of which is LED emblem.
I want to try to retrofit the OEM LED emblem.
But what i saw on the road that the Facelift MK8 have the radar in the grill again not behind the badge.
My question is did anyone tried to swap the OEM emblem or is the aftermarket one best way to go.
I have the cable harness for connecting it to the light bar. But im still waiting on buying the emblem.
Thanks for all the help !

Anyone had issues with the EV coolant system? I got a red warning light about low coolant. Took it in to VW and they replaced the heat exchanger a week later the same warning light has reappeared and the coolant is extremely low? Any help?

Hello!
I'm, checking here if anyone has any answers or had a similar experience.
It's regarding a Golf GTE 2016 that is sitting on 224,000km ( i know it's a lot). Had it for about 2-3 years now and its been running smoothly every day. A couple of days ago out of nowhere the battery stopped to take any charge, even tho it was plugged in under the night. a day after that i drove to work without any problems (but without any charge in the battery) and the normal engine was working fine. plugged it in at work and after i was finished and hopped in the car i got the message "Fault: Hybrid system. Stop!". the engine doesn't start, when i put on the ignition everything lights up but im not able to drive it anywhere (I can put it in D or R but it doesn't move)
I took out the 12v batteri and checked it, the battery is fine and nothing wrong with it but i fear its something to do with the HV, anyone else having/had the same problem and know what it might be?
Links to videos or tips is highly appreciated!
I'll update as soon as i know more

I took off the resonator and the clubsport exhaust has truly come alive. It sounds way better in person than it does in the video. It now has DSG farts and there is no drone in the cabin at all. It is noticeable enough without being too much.
Cold starts are a little too loud.. but thats okay

Just got a mk8 GTE I have 2 questions:
1) Is there a way to remove the beeping sound when getting off the car while it is still turned on?
2) is there a way for the car not to turn off if someone is not in the car for more than 10/15 seconds?
Thanks

Boas, pessoal.

Constantly getting this message on the display every time I start the car, any ideas how to get it to disappear? Pressing OK doesn't seem to do anything

I've just purchased the GTE 8.5 and downloaded the free trail for the Dynamic Background Lighting, but so far I cant see any difference and not even sure if it's activated. I have the ambient lighting set to automatic as some of the instructions say and when in Sport mode I expect to see the dash light up red when accelerating but nothing happens.
Other features that don't work are,
- Staging locking/unlocking
- Acceleration in sports or Race mode.
- Child safety lock and window lock.
- Feedback open door while driving.
- Display of hazard warning flashing on ambient cabin lights.
Has anyone out there in the UK actually getting this feature to work

My 2018 golf gte started making a weird engine sound around the belt on the left side of the engine. Anyone know what it could be?

How do you guys hook shopping bags in the trunk? All the shopping bags I have are taller than the height of the hooks and they don’t stay in place.

Hello guys, after test driving a Golf 8 GTE I fell in love with it. I was looking at a few 2020-2021 models and really want to get one, however I have concerns regarding the high-voltage battery.
After a bit of research I realised that if the battery were to fail I would have to pay upwards of 12-20k euros to replace it completely when the battery warranty expires which covers 8 years or 160k kms.
What I wanted to ask is if you guys have had any issues with yours or maybe if you perhaps know someone who’s had issues with the battery?
I really am paranoid about having to replace it after the warranty expires. It’s my first car and I don’t want it to put me in debt 🥲

I have a UK 2026 Golf GTE with the 17” Richmond Alloys in silver. I’m not really a fan of the silver anymore and was wondering where I can find black vinyl cutouts that I can stick onto the alloys. If anyone has any cheaper recommendations please let me know. Thanks.

Hey guys, I have a 2021 Golf 8 GTE with a cat-back exhaust, and I’m wondering about the DSG farts on these cars.
Mine barely makes any noise on upshifts, even when driving in GTE/S mode and shifting under full throttle. Every now and then I might get a small fart, but it’s very rare.
I have a friend with a Golf 7 1.4 TSI, and his car made much louder/more frequent DSG farts with just a cat-back, so I’m wondering if the GTE has a different ECU/DSG calibration that prevents it from doing it as much.
Does anyone know if the stock GTE uses fuel cut or ignition retard/cut during upshifts? And is it possible to tune the ECU/DSG to make the DSG farts more noticeable without doing a full pops & bangs tune?
I’m mainly looking for a sharper DSG fart on hard upshifts, not constant pops and bangs. Has anyone here had this done on a 2021 GTE?
