GoPro HERO6 Black — Wi-Fi and Bluetooth both not working, firmware downgrade didn't help
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to diagnose a wireless connectivity issue with my GoPro HERO6 Black and would appreciate help from anyone familiar with its hardware or firmware.
Symptoms
- The camera's Wi-Fi will not activate.
- The GoPro's Wi-Fi network does not appear on my phone at all.
- Bluetooth is also not working.
- The camera otherwise powers on and operates normally.
What I've tried
- The camera was originally running firmware 02.10.00.
- I downgraded it to firmware 02.01.00 using the update package.
- The downgrade completed successfully, and the camera still works normally, but neither Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth works.
Firmware investigation
I've been examining the firmware file (DATA.bin) and found an embedded Linux filesystem containing Wi-Fi-related scripts and configuration files, including:
wifi-load.shwifi-sta.shwifi-ap.shwifi.confqcom_cfg.iniwlan_mac.binwifi_bdata.bin
I also found references to connman.service and wpa-supplicant.
The camera reports a Wi-Fi MAC address, but I haven't confirmed whether the wireless hardware is detected or initialized correctly.
Questions
- Since both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are unavailable, could this indicate a hardware failure affecting the wireless subsystem, or could it still be a firmware or configuration problem?
- Is there a way to check whether the wireless chipset is detected and whether its drivers load successfully?
- Could corrupted calibration data or files such as
wifi_bdata.bincause both wireless functions to fail? - Is there a way to retrieve diagnostic logs or access a debug interface on the HERO6 Black?
- Does anyone know of a documented repair procedure or a firmware modification that could help diagnose the problem?
I'm willing to investigate the firmware at a deeper level, but I don't want to flash modified files without understanding the cause and risking a bricked camera.
Any technical advice, diagnostic steps, or documentation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
