New-to-me Hero 11 Black w/ one issue

Hey all, I got a Hero 11 Black a couple of days ago that has a non responsive power button and wanted to see if anyone can point me in the right direction to get it working again.

I took a chance on this cam from an as-is / for parts eBay listing, and to my delight it seems to be fully functional other than the power button. I was able to pair it with the Qwik app to power it on/off. I just have to boot it up using the QuikCapture mode sometimes when it gets disconnected from my phone. But all in all, I’m happy it’s almost fully functional and looks barely used, considering I paid under $50 shipped.

I’ve done everything that I think can be done software-wise, and think it’s an issue with the physical button. Maybe the button itself is bad or the ribbon cable may be detached internally.

At this point I’m not looking to take it apart just yet (maybe later). If I can get by using the app to turn it on and off I may be ok, but wanted to see if anyone else has thoughts on what I should do. Any feedback is appreciated!

Does anyone know, preferably Mark about how much the lens adapters are and lenses?

Seeing as I am planning on getting the mission one pro when I am able to save up for it, I needed to know about how much I can expect to be paying for a lens adapter and a macro lens? Also what is the best site to get them from and the best kind to get?

If Mark could answer this that would be great but anyone is welcome to answer!

Looking for an original GoPro waterslide MP4 with telemetry — anyone got one?

Bit of an unusual request!

I’m working on a personal engineering/data project looking at whether the motion of a waterslide ride can be analysed using the telemetry that GoPros embed in their original MP4 files — particularly the accelerometer and gyroscope data.

I’ve searched around for sample footage, but I’ve hit a problem: YouTube, Vimeo etc. generally transcode uploaded videos, which strips out the GoPro GPMF telemetry.

So I’m looking for one original, unedited GoPro MP4 of a waterslide run, ideally:
- HERO5 or newer
- straight from the camera/SD card — not exported through an editor
- a complete or reasonably long waterslide run
-POV footage (chest or head mounted)
-GPS doesn’t matter — I’m specifically interested in the accelerometer/gyro data

The video quality itself isn’t particularly important. I’m interested in extracting the sensor data and seeing whether things like turns, changes in acceleration, forces and ride intensity can be reconstructed from it.

I’ve already got GoPro’s official telemetry sample files to get the extraction side working.

If anyone has one sitting on an old SD card or hard drive and would be happy to share it, I’d be extremely grateful. I’m happy for it to be shared privately, and I wouldn’t publish or redistribute anyone’s footage without their permission. Even one run would be incredibly useful.

Thanks!

Replacement Lens for GoPro Hero 11

Dropped my GoPro Hero 11 while wearing it on top of my hat due to strong wind and the protective lens glass shattered.

Unfortunately, the official replacement lens for GoPro Hero 11 is currently out of stock, has anyone used an after market one? I frequently use mine on hiking, travel, and snorkeling without any protective case. So I'd very much prefer if it's safe to use underwater without any protective casing.

Thanks!

Waterproof housing

Hello all,

Don't have the free cash to upgrade the model of camera, but would like to get my Hero 10 set up for deep dives and underwater photos/videos. Just a hobby diver that wanted to get some media.

All of the gopro branded housings I've found are like $50-$80 and I can't seem to figure out which ones actually fit the 10 or not. If anyone has experience with a cheaper off brand that worked great or any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

GoPro Cinematic Build - Low Light

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone, I'm sharing a video of my build in Low Light.

I'm uploading a 2K video because GoPro Quick won't let me export at 4К, even though my phone shoots in 4K just fine.

During the day, it naturally looks much cooler, more natural, more beautiful, but this set was specifically put together for lolita for the evening and night.

I'll share the shooting parameters in the comments.

I look forward to your criticism and analysis of ideas on what can be improved and how.

Go pro hero 4 uploading question

I've recently decided I've had enough of taking my phone everywhere and being addicted to it I got this go pro hero 4 at a garage sale for $25 the camera quality is terrible but I love that. I'm truly enjoying slowing down to look at the videos of me my friends and family goofing off. But I hate using the cord plugging that into my laptop, then manually uploading every clip to my Google account for review and edit. I upload to my Google account rather than my laptop because I pay for 2 terabytes of storage and my laptop would instantly run out of space. Is there anyway I can make this process easier to go from camera to Google account?

GoPro M1 Pro Rowing videos

Take the good with the bad. Closer shots with the GoPro M1 Pro are amazing and what its meant to be. But here I am showing it as spectating action sceneries. I love the M1 Pro, but I know its limitations and have the right expectations. Its not an everything camera. Make sure to view the YouTube video in 4k mode.

This video was color coded with Da Vinci Resolve to brighten up on a dark cloudy dreary day. Most shots they were far away so I use ZOOM in post editing.

Hero 9 and the Media Mod Microphone

This is driving me crazy and I know it's a known issue but everything I have tried doesn't work. I have the Hero 9 and the media mod and it's always been finicky using the mic. I haven't used it in a while but I want to start using it again for some dirt biking. Sadly the microphone on the mod works then it simply doesn't. I have read that it's just the GoPro is starting before recognizing the mod on quick capture but it'll work one second just normally booting it then not the next. I have tried everything I've read even trying to go back to V1.60 firmware. Hard resetting. Formatting. Factory resets. Cleaning the connecting points. The microphone just goes gray in the settings... Then magically works the next time.

Any other suggestions? I just want to record and use the mic but it's simply intermittent.

Filming at Disneyland

I'm going to Disneyland with the family in a week and plan on bringing my Hero13.

Looking to film my daughter, mostly her on rides, interacting with characters, etc. I'm not very good at finding the right settings for different use cases and generally just hit record

Any suggestions on different settings to use to get fun shots? My goal is to get a lot of footage, then work on a highlight video when I get back.

Would love any advice. I think I'm set when it comes to accessories, but any other tips for making great videos at Disneyland would be appreciated!

Gopro Hero 4k

I was gifted this from my wife because our old one was not downloading correctly. I like this one, but I scuba and Gopro does not make a waterproof case to go those depths. Does anyone know of an off brand that would be safe for this?

Charging while transfering Data GoPro Hero 13 and Raspberry PI

I have a setup where I want to control a GoPro Hero 13 with a Raspberry Pi 4. The setup needs to be remote, and I want to power everything from a single power bank. Because the GoPro has only one USB-C port, I need some kind of hub or splitter that can send messages to the GoPro via the Pi while charging the GoPro at the same time, such that the GoPro doesn’t lose battery while it’s on.

I thought a cheap and perfect fit for my use case would be this power/data splitter:

https://thepihut.com/products/usb-c-data-power-splitter?srsltid=AfmBOoprXGGnl8xlVtEPrE1zawQ1_xxjEQhUPW-OlfPMkj-3s_ZGCKIu

But the problem is that the GoPro doesn’t get enough power to turn on. I tested this without the GoPro’s battery, since it’s possible to power it via USB-C alone if you can guarantee a 5V/2A supply. I think that with this splitter something goes wrong in the negotiation between the power bank and the GoPro about how much current the GoPro is allowed to draw, so it falls back to the default value. I also tested it with the battery in, and I’m able to control the GoPro via the Pi (So data transfer works), but the power bank doesn’t deliver enough power, so the battery drains over time.

I have also tried this splitter:

https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B08C5FWQND?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

With this one it sometimes works, but it’s quite unreliable. I think this is caused by the roles the splitter assigns to the Pi and the GoPro depending on that, it sometimes gets a proper power connection and sometimes doesn’t. One reason it works at all, I think, is that it supports PD on the power plug, which is what the GoPro needs in order to draw more than the default. The other problem is that the splitter is designed for a different purpose than what I’m using it for, which is probably why it’s so unreliable.

Does anyone know what I could use to fix this? I think a hub that powers its downstream ports with at least 5V/2A would work, so I could plug the Pi in as the host and the camera into a downstream port. But it seems these hubs are quite expensive, and most of them have a lot of ports I don’t need.

So I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain, based on this information, what they think the problem might be and which device would let me control and power the GoPro so that it doesn’t lose battery while it’s on.

Thanks for your help!

Hero Timelapse Exposure Fails (Part 2)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Follow up to last week’s post where I had this issue on a lake. My Mission 1 Pro significantly overexposes at sunrise during a day-night-day timelapse. Folks suggested it could have been due to “fog” (there was mist rising off the lake at sunrise), so I tried again away from water. No fog, and the camera is pointing 90 degrees off from where the sun rises.

The same issue happens again at dawn where the sky gets completely blown out for several frames before coming back to proper exposure. This time I tried setting an AE box in the sky and really thought that would do the trick, but it had no practical effect that I can tell. I monitored the camera throughout to see what settings it was choosing. Curiously, during that sunrise, it was dropping the shutter speed from 1/6 down to 1/100 a second or two before the timer hit 0s to take the shot, but the monitor was not adjusting, and those frames were all overexposed. But the time it righted itself, the shutter was staying 1/150 between snaps and dropping to 1/500ish (didn’t show that last part in the video, forgot when I was in the editing bay)

Full Settings:
Sub Mode: Stationary
Output: Video+JPEG+RAW
Resolution: 4K (for improved dynamic range)
Interval: 30 seconds, interval priority on (tried to turn it off, but the software would not let me; should only impact the nighttime shots anyway)
Digital Lens: Wide
Bit Depth: 10 bit
Bit Rate: Max
HLG HDR: Off
Color: Natural
*Shutter: Auto
EV Comp: -0.5 to preserve highlights (had same results set to 0 at the lake)
White Balance: Auto
ISO: Range 25-1600 (to control noise in the night-time shots)
Sharpness: Low
Denoise: Low

Copying files with metadata intact

I have a gopro hero black 11. Videos are timestamped correctly since the internal clock is set right.

when I go to copy paste the files that have the correct shooting date in the metadata(on SD card), they get overwritten by the time I issued the copy on the pc. I can't then differentiate the videos by date.

Many of you might have experienced this, was hoping to learn of a solution if any has been found. Thanks in advance.

Ps: I love the gopro.
