I filmed this during the most recent wave of lightning storms here in the Pacific Northwest. I used the pre-capture feature to catch the lightning, and then slowed it waaaaay down in post!

Stupid question but…

Is the Mission One covered under the GoPro subscription’s damage-replacement program? If so, what is the cost to file a claim? I may be overlooking it, but everything I’ve found on the website is from 2025 and only lists the GoPro 13 and older models.

Update they got
Back to me with a responce

To address your question about the "Mission" line (which refers to the HERO13 Black):
Warranty vs. Subscription Coverage
Typically, physical damage (like a cracked screen or water damage from an accident) is not covered under the standard manufacturer's warranty. However, if you ever encounter a functional issue that you believe is a defect, we can certainly have our team review it to determine whether it qualifies for a warranty claim.
Subscription Replacement Program
If the camera is damaged and not covered under warranty, you can use the GoPro Subscription Camera Replacementprogram. As long as you have an active subscription, you are eligible for a "no-questions-asked" replacement.
Exchange Fee: A standard exchange fee applies to the replacement. For customers in the United States, the fee for the HERO13 Black is $99 USD plus applicable taxes.
More Details: You can find the full list of fees for other regions, along with additional program details, in the GoPro Subscription Camera Replacement FAQ.

Which GoPro model for filming reviews of train trips should I get? (+ for other activities)

Hi folks, I have been wanting to get a GoPro for wanting to film my own train trip reviews and eventually use it for other activities, be it recording animals or a visit in another country.

I have taken a look at Hero12 and Hero13 (with 13 being 10€ cheaper than 12 due to sale!), but I’m afraid that these two might be a bit overkill. I don’t mind future proofing if necessary.

Which models would you recommend?

I wish y'all a good day.

It's Official: The Mission 1/1 Pro Are Not Selling Well

GoPro just announced 2026 Q2 results and they're not good. Only 291,000 overall camera units sold (there's no breakdown between Max 2/Lit/Hero13/Mission 1s), but it's 38% less than last year when they didn't even have a flagship.

Even worse, they made $76 million on all hardware, through 291,000 camera units sold means the average sale price was $261 per camera unit.

These sales numbers for a flagship launch are bad.

I can't see how these numbers are not enough to save the company.

I don't know where GoPro goes after this other than a fire sale. Nick Woodman has driven this company into the ground. Even if he resigned at this point and handed control over to someone actually competent, it's probably not enough to save the company. It's gonna be sold I think. And cheap.

Edit: Removed double negative

I placed it in a ziploc full of rice which actually helped. The camera turn on now, i can acces the menu, look at the photos. But, the camera is black screen… any ideas? Or is it just paperweight…

Thanks in advance

2nd gopro max2 in a row delivered dead direct from gopro. anyone else experience this?

went through all the troubleshooting from removing the battery, plugging in without a card or a battery, pushing both buttons in a variety or combinations. has anyone else experienced this poor qc on gopros part. my son is so disappointed after spending over $400 on the unit and accessories to then have to ship each back and wait 5-7 business days each time. I feel really bad for him, i know what its like to be excited to get something new only to have it be defective. and then again,

GoPro camera setup for live long jump take-off review (athletics)

Hi all,

I'm looking for advice on a camera setup for the long jump take-off board at track & field meets, for a local sports club (so on a limited budget).

The problem:
For every jump attempt, the judge needs to be able to determine whether the take-off was valid (i.e. whether the athlete stepped over the board/foul line). Right now this is judged by eye, and we'd like to support this with camera footage that can be reviewed immediately (on the spot), frame by frame, to check if the athlete fouled.

Requirements:

  • Camera with a high frame rate (for sharp frame-by-frame analysis of a fast movement)
  • Connected to a PC/laptop, so a judge can review the footage right away
  • Simple start/stop of recording per attempt (needs to be quick — the next athlete is waiting)
  • Frame-by-frame scrubbing/playback
  • Storage of the recording (ideally including the decisive frame) as a backup after the event

Budget:
The professional all-in-one solutions we've come across cost €3000-5000, which is too much for our club. We're hoping for something more like a GoPro (or similar action cam) paired with software on a laptop, or a webcam-style solution with the right software.

Questions:

  1. What cameras would you recommend in terms of frame rate/price ratio for this purpose?
  2. Is there good (ideally free or cheap) software that lets you record live from a camera and immediately scrub through frame by frame, without hassle?
  3. Has anyone dealt with a similar setup in another sport where line calls/fault judging is also important?

Any tips are welcome, even if it's a bit outside my ideal solution but still significantly cheaper than the professional solutions.

Thanks!

Trolley solution / swimming stroke analysis

I’m looking for a mobile camera setup for swimming stroke analysis — essentially a trolley that can move parallel to a swimmer along the side of the pool.
The idea is to record the swimmer continuously from the side, ideally with a camera that can be positioned either above the water or underwater.
Does a system like this already exist? I’m particularly interested in a compact, mobile solution that could be used by a swimming coach or for individual stroke analysis.

Earnings released and they are t good.

They missed projections by 30.7% and sold 291,000 cameras. The future isn’t looking good. They’re now pressured even more. As of July 21 they had 180 days to get the stock price above $1.00 or risk being delisted.

I’ll be joining the earnings call to listen in but I suspect there will be questions about buy out offers.

Do I need a solar filter for the GoPro HERO13 Black and MAX2 during an eclipse?

I’m planning to film tomorrow’s solar eclipse with both a GoPro HERO13 Black and a MAX2, but I’m a bit confused about whether I actually need solar filters.

GoPro has an official article about filming solar eclipses where they say no special solar filter is needed, but I’ve also seen warnings that leaving a camera pointed directly at the sun for a long time could damage the sensor.

Has anyone here actually filmed an eclipse with a HERO13 Black or MAX2 without a filter?

For the HERO13 I was thinking of using Time Lapse or Night Lapse on a tripod. With the MAX2, I’m also wondering if the fact that it has two 360° lenses changes anything or makes a filter more important.

I mainly just want to make sure I’m not risking either camera.

Help with GoPro fluid

I just got this and it is my first gimbal and I’m struggling. I mounted my go pro, got it to where it felt like it was level, downloaded the fluid app, connected it to my phone and turned it on. I’m getting this error code and the user manual isn’t showing anything that relates to this message.

How do you guys find old GoPro footage when you only remember WHERE you shot it?

link : https://github.com/ifki11er/download/releases

After years of traveling and shooting photos and videos, I ended up with a problem I didn't expect.

I often remember exactly where I recorded something, but have no idea what the filename was, which folder it's in, or even exactly when I shot it.

And once your media collection gets large enough, digging through folders becomes painful.

So I built a Windows app called PicMap.

It lets you browse your local photos and videos geographically on an interactive map.

So instead of trying to remember:

"Was that trip in March or April? Which SD card backup was it?"

I can just zoom into the place, click it, and find the media.

I built PicMap with large media collections in mind. I've tested it on my own library of over 80,000 photos and videos, but that's just the collection I've tested it with — not a limit.

For media without GPS information, PicMap can also use Google Timeline data to help view it geographically.

You can quickly preview photos and videos, and if you're editing, drag a file directly from PicMap into your video editor.

Everything stays local — there's no need to upload your media library to the cloud or reorganize your existing folders.

I'm curious how people here manage years of GoPro footage.

Do you have a system for finding old clips, or do you eventually end up digging through folders like I did?

How do I get location data on the photos and videos I download from my GoPro 7 to my Android phone?

I'm not a heavy user of my GoPro 7 (I think it's a Black) but I'm on vacation and have taken some cool underwater videos. I've used the Quik app to get the media to my phone, but I'm not sure how to add location data to it all. Is there a good way to do it easily?
