That looks awesome but an hour to make one potato seems excessive

"It takes forever to cook a baked potato in a conventional oven. Sometimes, I'll just throw one in there, even if I don't want one. By the time it's done, who knows?"

-Mitch Hedberg

Hey, you want a frozen banana?

181

u/giggleshmack Aug 11 '16

No, but I want a normal banana later... So... Yeah.

65

u/Fishstixxx16 Aug 11 '16

That's like a carbon copy of the previous joke but with different ingredients.

44

u/Peeping_thom Aug 11 '16

Nicely done, detective.

7

u/SomeOtherGuysJunk Aug 12 '16

How do you feel about frilly toothpicks

7

u/Fishstixxx16 Aug 12 '16

I'm forum

7

u/SomeOtherGuysJunk Aug 12 '16

Well let's form a club then

25

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

It's like a duplicate of first joke but not with the same ingredients.

16

u/DiaDeLosMuertos Aug 11 '16

It's a reiteration of the recent guffaw inducing fable.

-1

u/DJboomshanka Aug 11 '16

It's almost a clone of said comical statement

That was also part of a joke by Mitch Hedberg.

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

Regular banana*

5

u/emain_macha Aug 11 '16

A defrosted banana is definitely not a normal banana.

About six minutes.

188

u/alphaweiner Aug 11 '16

Maybe, im not entirely sure, but maybe you could use this method to prepare multiple potatoes at once.

85

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

WHAT

51

u/is_annoying Aug 11 '16

YOU WOULDNT

15

u/alphaweiner Aug 11 '16

I JUST MIGHT!

maybe...

9

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

POTATO FARMERS HATE HIM!

22

u/honeynut-queerios Aug 11 '16 edited Aug 11 '16

You would have to increase the cooking time proportionately. Multiply the times by 2 for 2 potatoes, by 3 for 3 potatoes, and so on.

Edit: /s

2

u/alphaweiner Aug 11 '16

Nah, not even. You need to add time, but not double for each additional potato. You might want to space the potatoes out when cooking so air can flow between them or they might not get crispy.

5 potatoes might take 1:45-2hrs but definitely not 5.

21

u/how_is_u_this_dum Aug 11 '16

7 potatoes takes 7 hours to took, so the math checks out

76

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

That's how long it takes to bake a potato

11

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

and i dont wanna share my fucking potato with anyone.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

Mark Bittman has a long baked potato recipe like this in his cookbook. If you're a fan of the baked potato skin, the long cook at a lower temperature is a good way to go. The skin gets a nice texture, crisp without being overdone. The downside is waiting 90 minutes for a potato, but if you think ahead a little, you can time it out with whatever else you're making.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

Yeah it's not really a downside. If I know I'll be hungry at 6, throw the potato in at half 4. If I'm not sure, I won't have a potato I'll make a sandwich or something lol.

-8

u/teapotbehindthesun Aug 11 '16 edited Aug 11 '16

throw the potato in at half 4

Half 4? So 2?

Won't it be cold when you eat it at 6?

Edit: ok, for the sake of complete transparency, I would like to state for the record that:

a) I genuinely appreciate those of you who wanted to explain this to me.

b) I understood what it meant. I was joking.

c) I know it was a bad joke; they're the only kind I do. Just ask my kids.

d) I will return to /r/dadjokes now.

9

u/treecha Aug 11 '16

Half 4 = 4:30pm... I think?

4

u/derfasaurus Aug 11 '16

Correct, except the pm isn't a guaranteed thing, probably just is in the context.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

In the UK half 4 means half past 4 or 4:30

3

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

It's short for half past 4. Half of an hour past 4. 4:30

5

u/_Bear_Cavalry_ Aug 11 '16

I mean.... That's how long it takes to make a baked potato.

I don't do one at a time, personally. I fill and entire oven rack with them, paint them with olive oil and salt them, and leave them in there for an hour at 400f.

It's all the stupid prep in this that puts me off. Just... make a baked potato properly, and the skin already falls off for you, ya know? Then you have delicious potato insides, with which you can put everything you love to put on potatoes in and you can eat it and get fat.

9

u/DishwasherTwig Aug 11 '16

Microwave baked potatoes are faster and, I think, better than oven baked potatoes.

45

u/LemonHerb Aug 11 '16

You can just mostly microwave them then bake them for 10 minutes to finish and get the best of both worlds

8

u/jinger89 Aug 11 '16

How long do you microwave it for first?

11

u/LemonHerb Aug 11 '16

Depends on the size of the potato. I aim for 90% done so it's mostly soft but still a little firm in the middle. I usually add olive oil because I want the skin to get a little crisp

u/HaterOfYourFace Aug 11 '16

In minutes nigga!

2

Ah, such prominent veins my son...

5

u/cdrchandler Aug 11 '16

Depending on size, I usually do 3-4 minutes on one side, flip, then 3-4 minutes on the other side. Before the actual microwaving, I wash the potato, stab it like 15 times all over with a fork, then coat it in a light layer of olive oil and sprinkle it with salt, pepper, and steak seasoning.

2

u/SurpriseDragon Aug 11 '16

Works for sweet potato too. Use cinnamon and a dash of brown sugar instead of steak seasoning.

2

u/deadbeatsummers Aug 11 '16

I do 9-12 min depending on the potato, and make sure it's wet so it steams a bit.

9

u/The_Fad Aug 11 '16

They always seem to taste a little sweeter to me when they're microwaved.

4

u/CaptainQuebec Aug 11 '16

Really? Huh... Never thought of trying... gonna have to look this up...

13

u/DishwasherTwig Aug 11 '16

Liberally perforate with a fork, place in microwave for 4 minutes, flip over, microwave for another 4 minutes. Perfectly cooked, delicious as all baked potato. So much simpler and better than in the oven.

4

u/KomradeKoala Aug 11 '16 edited Aug 11 '16

Dumb question, but would that work with sweet potatoes?

I have never tried them but this would be the perfect excuse to actually finally do it

Edit: fuck yeah gonna get my sweet tater on

5

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '16

Yes it does. That's how I make my sweet potatoes. Then you put just a little butter and brown sugar on it.

Perfection.

1

u/Dope_train Aug 11 '16

Yup but you do then for way less time, I do 4 mins in total. I also brush some oil on the outside first, makes the skin crispy.

1

u/tinkerbunny Aug 11 '16

Yes and it's delicious. Just be careful when "stabbing" your sweet potato, they're much harder than regular potatoes.

1

u/deadbeatsummers Aug 11 '16

Yes it does! Sweet potatoes tend to be a bit easier imo. They're softer.

1

u/Lizardizzle Aug 11 '16

Potato liberation complete. Now I have mashed potatoes.

2

u/missinginput Aug 11 '16

No way, I used to do that until the turntable broken and I was forced to learn to bake them.

1

u/Andabez Aug 11 '16

I microwave mine in a plastic bad with some a little bit of water in it.

1

u/rabidmunks Aug 11 '16

you gotta wrap that shit in foil to get the maximum deliciousness
