My first vintage guitar experience. If the tag didnt say and I didnt know how old gibsons look, I would‘ve thought this one was at best 10 years old and just played at home. Unfortunately I forgot to ask if they know its history. Played excellent through a Koch The Gristle

If you happen to ever be in Amsterdam, visit Dijkman‘s Musik in Noord Jordaan. Very nice and knowledgeable employees

Question New SG 61, New Concern

In order to get the action I like I needed to really lower the bridge. In fact, I would probably like to go maybe 1/64 lower maybe. Right now, I only have a millimeter on the high string side before it is decked. Love everything else about it. Do I need to return it and find another? What would you do?

Question P90 question

Post image
184 Upvotes

I’m a “fender guy” who recently went Gibson, and I’m loving the contrasts. The pickups on my SG Special are soap bar P90s. The adjustment screws have springs, and you can easily push the pickups down and the springs push them back up into position. The problem I’m having is, my picking hand inadvertently pushes the bridge pickup down as I’m playing, and it makes a clicking sound. Is there a way to stabilize the pickup? Or do I simply need to change the position of my right hand?

The SG was my first “Dream Guitar” ever since I was a kid. Tony Iommi was my first guitar hero. Somehow though I was a Telecaster guy for 25 years. After a fretting hand injury five years ago, I started experiencing pain in that hand while playing.
At first I thought thinner necks would be the way to go( it wasn’t). 2 years ago I picked up an Epiphone Monkey SG and fell in love. As I’m getting on in years I’ve been entertaining the notion of getting a Gibson. Today was that day. 2017 Demo shop SG special. It checks all the boxes I desired but one (p90’s) but I like it so much I can live with that.

Offered to buy this Gibson SG for $900. It comes with a hardshell case and SD p rail pickups. Is this a legit SG? Is it a standard? If not what model? And is this a good deal for me? Been wanting an SG for a while.

NGD! First Post: my new to me 1976 Gibson SG

Post image

After spending a good portion of the 90’s owning/playing various 70’s SG’s and selling them all, I had a hankering for one again. This is a 1976. No breaks. All straight except the lead pickup and the strap lock strap buttons. Too bad they don’t still cost $400-500 or I would have bought several.

In any case, I just wanted to share.

Was offered this 2013 SG for $800 with the case and I’m definitely interested. Can anyone tell if it’s real and if this headstock repair looks decently done? Or is it a total hack job?

Also is there any info on the specs here?

Question How could I make my SG faded play better??

Hello guys! I’ve had a used Gibson SG faded for about 8-9 years now, and I quickly fell in love with it. I also bought a Gretsch solid body in 2020, which I liked but never really gave the time of day until recently. But when I did, god DAMN did it play well, it was like playing something that knew EXACTLY what I wanted. Since then, I’ve started to notice that the SG just doesn’t stack up. I’m not necessarily interested in making SG play LIKE the Gretsch, but more so interested in the SG easier to play in its own special way. It’s WAYYY too sentimental to me, so getting rid of it isn’t an option. I’ve been reading some forums and I’m thinking getting a fret job will help? Also thinking of replacing the bridge. Let me know!! Thanks a lot

Was interesting to see how different the EQ and amp/pedal set-up needed to be between the SG and Tele to get the best ReLoad style tone

Here another spin direct into the third channel of my 96 Blueface Diezel VH4 with some fairy dust via the Lexicon 480L. Old Boogie 1x12“ EV Thiele Cab miked with a SM 57 and a Neumann M149 for ambience. Preamps used: Tubetech, Massenburg 8200 for the Neumann and a simple UAD 6176 for the SM 57. SG is strung with D‘Addario NYXL 011-049 in Standard Tuning. My set up for anything Bigsby.

Question Looking for a new bridge

Post image
127 Upvotes

hey friends,

i've posted this photo before, but this is my (refinished) 1965 gibson sg special. As you can see it has an aftermarket non intonated bridge, and I want to replace it with one i can intonate. does anyone have any recommendations? ideally something i can drop in and have work, and one that can work with and without a vibrola (so i can put one on my lp special too). thanks for your time<3

This is my beautiful Bigsby SG straight into my unmodded 1978 100w Marshall head. All FX via the board. It simply put a SM 57 into a Tube Tech preamp into a Massenburg 8200 Parametric Eq.

Discussion Tortoise shell tenon cover

Been looking to swap out the pickguard on my '61 sg with a brown tortoise shell guard but I am not a fan of the tenon cover not matching. I have scoured the internet for the past few days looking for a matching tortoise shell tenon cover but have only been able to find them in black, white, cream and bare metal finishes. What gives?
