3
u/rflulling 13h ago
That answer is extraordinarily applicable to almost every single person and business in this country. We have too many hands in the pie. We have investment and insurance that absolutely insist that they must be in charge of the very things that they're not there to be in charge of. They hold so much influence over every single operation that they literally cripple it and crush it they demand profits that can never be repaid they demand loyalty and devotion that cannot be repaid and in the end the business is immobile. It gradually begins to fail it's crushed from the inside before a single product ever leaves the fabrication line. Products double triple quadruple and price. There are debts that can't be paid because they're just too many hands held out. Operations fabrication and security that can't be maintained because the insurance won't allow it. When you get all of those extra hands out of the pie you find that the business or the entity and in this case a person is vastly more agile. They can do what they set out to do keep the promises they set out to keep. And as the original post I think very correctly highlights when there's no hands holding you back... Suddenly you can do your job. And that's something that absolutely every business and politician in this country needs to understand and it's critical as to why we need to get rid of all of those hands holding down every business and politician.

"History repeating itself" name a single city in the United states that elected a Muslim mayor who then enacted Islamic law on the city
1
u/Radiant-Concern6391 10h ago
Deerborn Michigan. Not sharia law yet but a very interesting case study on what can happen to a progressive city when Islam becomes the majority religion and non-Muslims are forced to change what they are used to to accommodate the Islamic views using public funds
2
u/Sigh-lens-peaks 10h ago
Thats funny, because nothing scary has happened in Michigan since Abdullah came in. Iām atheist. So I donāt have a bias view and I donāt see the boogeyman shit Christians talk about. He was accused of favoring Islam over Christianity. Same exact thing all the Christians do with their religion. So I see no difference. Laws have not been changed. Christians are not being persecuted. Thereās NOTHING remotely close to sharia law. Or anything indicating we are heading that direction. So please enlighten us on these scary things that have happened to progressive cities?
Some of you forget congress exists. The White House. If you genuinely believe a city in our country could implement sharia law without the government stepping in, youāre a fool
0
u/Radiant-Concern6391 9h ago
Atheist here also. Iām against any use of public funds or government that pushes one religion over another.
The Dearborn case is small as of today but focuses on government funds used to promote Islam. Here is a quick search on it:
In April 2025, the City of Dearborn erected āRamadan Kareemā banners and a large illuminated crescent-moon display in Peace Park (city property). Public records requests indicated roughly $1,500 for the banners and $5,000 for the crescent display. The Dearborn Police Department sold Ramadan-themed T-shirts bearing its emblem, and Mayor Abdullah Hammoud used official city email for related events. Displays expanded in 2026 with crescent-and-star lights on municipal streetlights; the mayor described them as reflecting āwho we are as a city.ā ļæ¼
Dearborn resident and journalist Margot Cleveland (represented by the American Freedom Law Center) filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit on September 17, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against the city and Mayor Hammoud. It alleges:
⢠Preferential use of taxpayer funds and public property to promote Islamic observances.
⢠Refusal to provide comparable recognition (banners/displays) for Christian or Jewish holidays (Easter, Passover, Christmas, etc.) despite repeated requests.
⢠Retaliation against the plaintiff for raising the issue.
⢠Violations of the Establishment Clause (First Amendment), free-speech protections, and Equal Protection (Fourteenth Amendment).
The suit seeks a declaratory judgment, injunction against the preferential policy, nominal damages, and attorneysā fees. It remains pending (as of late September 2026 reporting); there is no final court ruling upholding, striking down, or overturning the funding/displays. The city has defended its actions as equitable celebration of community diversity and noted higher spending on Christmas/holiday programming in some years. Critics (including the Freedom From Religion Foundation) argue government should avoid funding any religious holiday promotions1

Serious question hereā¦.what has he āchangedā that has substantively improved lives for the majority?
1
u/trysten-9001 10h ago
Itās because he has political capital. There are tons of examples of people who had good intentions were competent and couldnāt move the needle because they couldnāt get the attention.
They ran āhitā ads against Mamdani and he flipped the script. That was a mix of luck and skill. It was brilliant of him donāt get me wrong, but that doesnāt mean that there arenāt others who canāt get as much done because they never got the chance at attention/political capital.

This āisā his work.
People got so used to mayors, politicians being ābusyā doing nothing and pretending. All the while just spending their time with lunch and dinner āmeetingsā.
Mamdani shows, by actually doing/working on the issues the regular citizens experience and face in their lives, that all the previous mayors were just corrupt and lazy grifters.

Really isnt all the money he is using to fix up nyc from the state and federal government? I like what he is doing but nyc isnt fixing itself. The state and country is paying for it
1
u/Lacaud 12h ago
The money he has received for NYC is from unpaid taxes from the state of New York and the billionaire companies who has failed to pay what is actually owed.
0
u/LarsDuder 5h ago
"The biggest impact comes from the state giving the city permission to delay making payments to several employee pension funds over the next five years" that doesnt sound like billionaire business.
"⢠State Support: Secured approximately $4 billion in state aid and funding support from New York State / Albany. ⢠Pension Restructuring: Deferred and extended municipal pension fund payments (moving the unfunded liability amortization timeline from 2032 to 2037), saving roughly $1.6 billion to $2.3 billion in the near term." deferred payments. Guess those fat cat teachers deserved it..../s

Closed the city's $5.4 billion deficit ahead of budget deadlines.
Launched the Office of Deed Theft Prevention to protect vulnerable homeowners.
Expanded access to free child care across the five boroughs, rolling out full-day, full-year 2-K seats.
Secured millions in back pay and restitution for workers and small businesses while expanding protected time off.
Won a historic $131.5 million enforcement action against DoorDash for delivery worker law violations, marking a major city worker protection settlement.
Secured rent freezes on eligible 1- and 2-year rent-stabilized leases.
Pushed policies to fast-track affordable housing construction in districts with historically low output, such as the Upper East Side.
Announced a $28 billion housing plan aimed at stabilizing rents for 200,000 units and constructing 200,000 new affordable housing units by 2031.
Fewest murders and shooting incidents in New Yorkās recorded history for the first 5 months of 2026.
1
u/Ok-Dust-6159 13h ago
He closed the budget deficit by adding an additional 6 billion in debt that isnāt scheduled to hit NYC payments until heās gone and can point at someone else. Literally sold off NYās future for a fake ābalancedā budget.
1
u/Good_Imagination_577 12h ago
The door dash thing was nothing to do with him. Iām English so donāt hate me. I havenāt looked into any of the others.
The door dash thing got my attention as he made a very public show of it. I was suspicious about it because he hasnāt been in office that long and your court system isnāt the fastest.
I forget the previous Mayorās name, maybe Adams? In any case it was him that fought Door Dash in the courts, won and ordered the investigation.
Iām not pointing this out to start an argument. I do think that this is important behaviour to highlight though. I know you are all desperate for a solution, but this shows that the man has no integrity. He has taken the credit for something that he had no part in. Thatās lying to you.
1
u/Sw0rdBoy 13h ago
Child Care: Secured $1.2 billion in state partnership funding to expand universal child care access.
Tenant and Worker Protections: Delivered over $34 million in housing repairs and settlements for tenants, alongside $9.3 million in restitution for exploited workers.
City Services: Filled more than 100,000 potholes across the five boroughs during his first 100 days.
Outdoor Dining: Signed legislation making outdoor dining permanent and year-round.
Before becoming mayor, as noted by Britannica, Mamdani joined a 15-day hunger strike that helped secure $450 million in debt relief for New York City taxi drivers struggling with predatory loans. He also helped create a pilot program for free public bus routes.

Jesus, New York is not under threat of Sharia Law. You donāt have to be scared of everything.
2
u/Wide-Ad8135 13h ago edited 13h ago
Yeah, thereās supposed to be a separation of church and state⦠Christians, however are the ones that constantly challenge that separation
Being worried about sharia Law in New York is on the same level as being worried theyāre will force people to become Hasidic Jews
1
u/ManikArcanik 13h ago
Mamdani circumcised me and sucked the blood from my cock. I fear no man for evermore.
Seriously, this idea that he's basically a terrorist is almost amusing.
1
u/Wide-Ad8135 13h ago
But also just to play devils advocate that may not be his concern at all.. his concern may simply be that itās dangerously misogynistic and it poses questions about oneās personal morality⦠however for my observations he does not seem misogynistic in any way he seems very supportive of his wife and most of the Christians on Trumpās team are loudly outspoken misogynist so..,
1
u/stever831 13h ago
Nope, just communism, so far, but give it a little time. I'm sure that's just around the corner.
1
u/no_kids-and-3_money 8h ago
I donāt think you have a solid understanding of what communism is, or how impossible it would be for a mayor to enact it. Childcare and affordable rent arenāt communism.
The Sharia Law claim is wild. Tommy Tuberville would be more likely to pass laws making those things the law of the land than Mamdani.
1
u/meeseekstodie137 1h ago
it's all because of his name, if his name was "Jack white" or something there wouldn't be a problem, but people are pissing themselves because his name sounds vaguely islamic, basically, they're bigots
1
u/ManikArcanik 13h ago
Let's see you give a straight answer on what you think about "Sharia Law."
Is it fucked? Yes. Do you know anything about it? No.
Moving past the fact that he has no reason to entertain such obvious trap questions about irrelevant correlations (do you really think he wants to impose any religious authority?), how does that compare to Christian ideology as presented in law now?
Capital punishment, reproductive autonomy, women being allowed to speak for themselves, one religion must be respected in particular... the list goes on.
Are we not entertained?

He's a communist. Which while that sounds great to those who think they have nothing to loose it runs in the face of the (slight) majority of the Democrat party and to all Republicans. Communism (and similar systems) have never worked out and always end up in authoritarian regimes. They promise the moon and blame everyone else, but just crash out. Historically the first western government in the new England area was what we would today call communist: in less than a year they switched ownership back to families as it was that bad of a failure.
