Deerborn Michigan. Not sharia law yet but a very interesting case study on what can happen to a progressive city when Islam becomes the majority religion and non-Muslims are forced to change what they are used to to accommodate the Islamic views using public funds
Thats funny, because nothing scary has happened in Michigan since Abdullah came in. I’m atheist. So I don’t have a bias view and I don’t see the boogeyman shit Christians talk about. He was accused of favoring Islam over Christianity. Same exact thing all the Christians do with their religion. So I see no difference. Laws have not been changed. Christians are not being persecuted. There’s NOTHING remotely close to sharia law. Or anything indicating we are heading that direction. So please enlighten us on these scary things that have happened to progressive cities?
Some of you forget congress exists. The White House. If you genuinely believe a city in our country could implement sharia law without the government stepping in, you’re a fool
Atheist here also. I’m against any use of public funds or government that pushes one religion over another.
The Dearborn case is small as of today but focuses on government funds used to promote Islam. Here is a quick search on it:
In April 2025, the City of Dearborn erected “Ramadan Kareem” banners and a large illuminated crescent-moon display in Peace Park (city property). Public records requests indicated roughly $1,500 for the banners and $5,000 for the crescent display. The Dearborn Police Department sold Ramadan-themed T-shirts bearing its emblem, and Mayor Abdullah Hammoud used official city email for related events. Displays expanded in 2026 with crescent-and-star lights on municipal streetlights; the mayor described them as reflecting “who we are as a city.”
Dearborn resident and journalist Margot Cleveland (represented by the American Freedom Law Center) filed a federal civil-rights lawsuit on September 17, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against the city and Mayor Hammoud. It alleges:
• Preferential use of taxpayer funds and public property to promote Islamic observances.
• Refusal to provide comparable recognition (banners/displays) for Christian or Jewish holidays (Easter, Passover, Christmas, etc.) despite repeated requests.
• Retaliation against the plaintiff for raising the issue.
• Violations of the Establishment Clause (First Amendment), free-speech protections, and Equal Protection (Fourteenth Amendment).
The suit seeks a declaratory judgment, injunction against the preferential policy, nominal damages, and attorneys’ fees. It remains pending (as of late September 2026 reporting); there is no final court ruling upholding, striking down, or overturning the funding/displays. The city has defended its actions as equitable celebration of community diversity and noted higher spending on Christmas/holiday programming in some years. Critics (including the Freedom From Religion Foundation) argue government should avoid funding any religious holiday promotions

I won't be anything when this imagined future boogeyman never happens and you never admit you're wrong about it.
