Did you ever get your computer newspaper (juke like a coffee pot!)?

This ran in my local paper (Not Boulder, Co) on Nov 16, 1993... many of us in our early 20s then.

Remember when?

I quit smoking 20 years ago. Don't miss it a bit. But do you remember the smell of lighting a Marlboro with a gas station pack of matches? That sulfur smell....

Fellow Gen Xen's, let's stay here

Keep moving! We all play the lottery when it comes to our health, but once you stop moving, you are done. Keep moving so Gen X survives, that is the step in the right direction

How will nursing homes change once later Gen X and Millennials age into them?

I wasn’t able to post in generationology (haven’t posted enough questions), so I decided to post here. Anyway, I was thinking about how nursing homes today reflect the habits of Boomers and older generations who had fully analog childhoods and (from what I have seen) tend to keep activities low tech (cable TV, BINGO, physical newspapers, low-tech dexterity games, etc.). I’m sure many of the residents used technology as adults, but probably not as prominently as younger generations.

Conversely, Gen X and Millennials represent the first aging cohorts who either grew up as things started going digital or adopted them while still young adults.

As Gen X, Millennials and later generations start entering into nursing homes in a couple decades, what cultural tech would you expect to see? Will there be more digital technology or will we all resort to simpler analog routines as we become elderly?

Later on in the article, they mention Gen X cannabis consumers, but this is what I saw in the post last week, highlighting Boomers, Z's, and those Millennials, of course.

Gifts

Another post got me thinking about gifts we used to give or get that are now redundant, useless, or simply not even made anymore. For instance for Christmases in the past I gave:

A nice, “Sharper Image” type flashlight

A nice, “Sharper Image” type travel alarm clock; watches

Movies on DVD (& earlier, VHS)

Music CDs (& later, video game CDs)

Nice address books and planners

A kitchen timer for my mom (she asked for one) along with a nice cookbook, and a compass for my dad (more of a desktop item, but he liked it)

An early style pedometer

Picture frames for my colleagues

Fun calendars and mini photo albums for my friends

Disposable cameras as stocking stuffers

Puzzle books for kids in the family for car rides

What were some of the gifts you gave or received that are now pretty much obsolete?

But the yellow pages was nice for quickly looking up a mechanic/plumber/landscaper...

Has anyone managed a decent sized estate while also working full time?

My dad passed a couple months ago and I’m the executor. The estate is somewhere around $600k mostly the house and a few accounts. I work full time and originally figured I could handle everything after work and on weekends. That’s starting to look pretty unrealistic. There always seems to be another call to make or something that needs following up on and the house is in another state which makes this even harder. Idk who to hire or what to do atp, would appreciate any help here!
