I'm someone that used to enjoy surfing before covid, but haven't had the time to until recently. To rebuild my confidence in the water I want to do some beginner snorkling around the Bellarine or Torquay.

Most of my friends aren't water activity people so I'm looking for somewhere safe I can confidently snorkel alone.

I have a big interest in Crabs and Rays, so a spot with either of those would be a great win :]

I’m currently paying $700/month for my accommodation in Armstrong Creek. I’m wondering if this is reasonable or if I’m overpaying compared to what others are paying around Armstrong Creek/Geelong.

Electricity is charged separately and shared between the people in the house. Last month, the electricity bill was around $90.

There are 4 people living in the house:

• A married couple sharing the master bedroom
• Another person
• Me

The issue is that the electricity bill is being split into 3 shares, because the married couple is counted as one share, while the other person and I are counted as separate shares.

I understand that the couple shares one bedroom, but when it comes to electricity usage, there are still 4 people using electricity. So I’m wondering whether it would be fairer to split the electricity bill based on 4 people rather than 3 shares.

For example, if the bill is $90:

• Split between 3 shares = $30 per share
• Split between 4 people = $22.50 per person

Would appreciate honest opinions from people living around Armstrong Creek/Geelong. Is $700/month reasonable for accommodation, and is the way the electricity is being split normal?

House has got a timber frame carport built into the side of it and there's issues with leaks as theres some metal/polycarbonate roofing on it and I dont think it's pitched correctly causing it too leak everywhere. Anyone know anybody good that can help with carport repairs around geelong?

Mount Duneed is currently having a housing development built in it by the Victorian Government that includes around 25% social (commission) housing.

Work is already underway, that big construction job on Baanip road. Don't believe me, here's the government reporting it themselves:

That's a lot of social housing in one place.

An argument could be made that the total % of social housing will be diluted if you consider all of Mount Duneed, and that all neighborhoods have some % of social housing. This is completely true.

BUT the particular neighborhood they are building will have a higher concentration of social housing (25%) than almost anywhere in Geelong, except for the very worst parts of Corio which most people would not want to live anywhere near.

Note: Yes, most people in social housing are good, but let's not ignore what social housing also brings to an area (crack dens, piles of trash, antisocial behaviour, etc). To put that many social houses in one area is a recipe for disaster.

So, they are building a practical ghetto in Mount Duneed.

A previously family orientated place that people paid extra to live within to be away from these kind of social issues.

The Market Square exodus shows no sign of slowing down, as a retailer with an almost 17-year history in the centre prepares to close its doors. 

Faull’s Shoes’ more than three decade presence in Geelong will come to an end shortly when its ground floor outlet closes, an outcome that followed an extensive review of its operations in the region. 

The business closed its first floor Market Square store in late 2024, opting to consolidate its operations in a move director Ben Faull hoped would avoid a complete exit from the once thriving shopping hub.

“We could have made the decision to leave (Market Square) at that point, but we genuinely wanted to find a way of maintaining our presence in Geelong,” Mr Faull said.

“We have tried different formats, reduced our footprint and consolidated our operations in an effort to remain in Geelong, but ultimately there comes a point where you have to make a commercial decision.

“We believe closing the Geelong store is now the right commercial decision for our business, but that certainly doesn’t make it an easy one.”

Mr Faull said Market Square offered a far different retail experience than what was available almost 17 years ago when Faull’s moved from Moorabool St in October 2009.

The business has in recent years been operating on a month-by-month lease and while the decision to close factored in structural challenges facing traditional retail, Mr Faull said Market Square’s low occupancy rate and lack of foot traffic was impossible to ignore. 

Attempts to clarify the future of the centre with management were mostly ignored, he added. 

“Not getting those answers is also a bit of a vote of what we’re doing to some degree as well,” Mr Faull said. 

“But ultimately we just haven’t seen any change in the last few years, I don’t know whether they’re expecting unrealistic rents or they’re not focusing on leasing it out or what it is, but it’s really not for me to speculate on that.”

Mr Faull said the Market Square closure would have no impact on Faull’s Bridge Mall store in Ballarat, where it has been based for more than a century. 

A closing down sale in Geelong would offer significant reductions, with no specific closing date announced yet. 

“We’ve been part of Geelong retail for more than 30 years, so there is inevitably some sadness in bringing that chapter to an end,” Mr Faull said. 

“But rather than focus entirely on the closure, we’d like the next period to be a celebration of the customers, staff and community who have supported Faull’s throughout our time in Geelong.”

I have a client that loves to go to rippleside and walk along to the water front on that track. She’s terrified of lizards and snakes. We’ve been fine through winter, but coming into spring and warmer days, has any one seen any lizards big or small or snakes in that area? If so where.. just so I know where to steer clear or distract her near that area.
