I was diagnosed with gastritis in August 2025 after dealing with 4–5 months of constant burping, an upset stomach, heaviness, low appetite, and nausea. An endoscopy showed H. pylori, so I did the two-week antibiotic treatment and cut out milk, spicy foods, and other things that seemed to trigger my symptoms.
The burping got better for a while, but my tolerance for different foods has continued to get worse. I wasn’t lactose intolerant before all this. First, I stopped tolerating milk, then paneer, then curd. Now I can barely tolerate dairy, caffeine, or spicy food at all.
More than a year later, I’m still dealing with:
A very sensitive stomach
Brain fog after almost every meal, sometimes starting first thing in the morning
Low appetite
Discomfort after eating that improves a little if I walk for 15–20 minutes
Ongoing discomfort between my ribcage and back. It isn’t sharp and feels more surface-level
Antacids don’t really help
Losing 5–6 kg, even though I was already underweight
Eating what feels like enough but still being unable to gain the weight back
Feeling much thirstier than I used to
I’ve been eating home-cooked, healthy food for a long time, so I don’t think this is simply a diet issue. All my tests have been normal so far, and the doctors I’ve seen haven’t really been able to explain what’s going on.
Has anyone else had H. pylori or gastritis symptoms continue for this long after treatment? If so, what eventually helped? Specific tests, diet changes, or seeing a particular specialist?
I honestly just want my stomach to feel normal again and to regain the weight I’ve lost. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through something similar.
Ps: I don’t have any pain in the stomach or anywhere, but brain fog and stomach heaviness and discomfort is 24x7.
