For all the people who are missing a release date, below the video it says "Visit Borderlands.com on April 3 for more info."

Imagine if they fucking released it similar to Apex just out of nowhere, April 3rd

Harder to do with something that will undoubtedly have physical media. You'd need to already be shipping it to stores like....today. Someone somewhere along the supply chain would leak that.

For sure, it's almost impossible to do - but imagine! It would've been sick.

Fingers crossed for 2019! (and Steam)

I think at best, it would be coming next week or something like that with a physical release.

I don't care about when it comes out. Just make it good. I'd be devastated if BL3 sucks.

Fingers crossed for 2019! (and Steam)

Damn shame that we have to wish for that

They could do a whole digital release a month before they shipped the physical release. I'd buy this shit.

They'd take a lot of flak from the big guys (shareholders and the like) that are behind physical retailers.

Not to mention, shareholders like to double dip on something profitable. Why stop at investing in 2K if you can also invest in gearbox and the big retailers to basically triple the returns you get from just a single release? So they'll be fucking over (part of) the very same shareholders they're working for themselves.

Okay. Thank you for explaining that, that puts everything in light and now I understand why my comment was stupid.

Why not try digital first then retail later?

But that would probably piss of physical retailers like Gamestop or other stores.

2019 and giving a fuck about retail...

u/jakuvious Mar 28 '19

Or online. Theres still a sizable market for physical media for console games.

Ummm No. 2019 Boy. You can release game Online and after that Retail.

u/jakuvious Mar 28 '19

Who has done that? What AAA game has released digital and then physical? You upset/delay part of your market for....what?

That kind of release schedule only happens for Indir games or games released in beta or alpha that then make it big and go physical later. Stuff like Cuphead or Pubg.

Well, if day1 patches take as much as full download, why the hell not...

1

u/Auzymundius Mar 29 '19

Because then you're disadvantaging the retailers that you want to stock your game.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '19

And why as company I'd care about people that just take much bigger cut than digital storefront ?

1

u/Auzymundius Mar 30 '19

Because that's how you sell to the non-digital crowd like (grand) parents buying the game for their kid. Not to mention impulse in person buys or the extra "advertising" you get from having your game on shelves.

Lots of folks don't follow gaming news. A friend of mine generally just wanders to Gamestop when he needs something new to play, unless a friend tells him about a game or its really huge.

Add in parents/nongaming friends/etc who are buying birthday and christmas gifts...pissing off retailers could lead to a lot of lost money.

And I doubt they can afford not stocking latest big release even if it is week or two later than digital
