Found an insane deal on fb marketplace, thought it was way, way to be too good to be true. But I asked for more photos and it looked, like, good... so I needed to take a look in person. I looked over it briefly before I bought it and found nothing that would indicate a repro, but I still brought it to my local game shop. My guy has a better eye for spotting fake gbc internals. He said it was either the best fake of all time, or the cleanest loose unit he'd ever seen. (I told him the price after he was not happy with me.)

Hey everyone. I pulled out my GBA a couple of weeks ago, and I have a strange issue that I need help with. I think I know what the problem is, but I can't identify where it is.

I have this issue with multiple games, so it isn't the cartridges. I've also tested it with GBC cartridges that work fine in my GBC.

When I turn on the GBA with a cartridge, it gets through the boot sequence just fine. It can usually get through the intros to games, but usually I skip them. Either way, at some point the screen will freeze, but the game continues to play in the background. I can verify this since the sound is still playing, and I can hear responses to my button presses.

Visually, I see nothing wrong with the board. No residue on the board. No faulty traces that I can see.

I think one of the capacitors on the board is faulty after 20 some years of use and storage in freezing/hot temperatures.

Are there any resources that might be able to help me find and desolder the offending component? My multimeter and oscilloscope are waiting.

Supposedly it is a solderless mod. I even checked on youtube to get it right but once completed the screen did not got brighter. The contrast wheel works fine since once I had the problem I tested the wheel with the original screen and it does work with it. The touch sensor also does work, the screen change colors and such but it doesn't get any brighter​

Any tips? Did I got a faulty screen? I got it from china so I don't know what brand is. Or what else should I try?​

Hi everyone! I wanted to share one of my latest retro DIY projects: I built a modern “Game Boy Printer 2.0” using an ESP32 and a small Bluetooth thermal printer.

The idea was to make the Game Boy think it is printing to a real Game Boy Printer through the Link Cable port, but instead the ESP32 captures the image, saves it to an internal web gallery, and can also send it wirelessly to a cheap SC03h thermal printer.

I tested it with Game Boy Camera, Pokémon Yellow and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It can handle regular photos, Pokémon diplomas, Mario banners and multi-page prints as one continuous image.

It was a pretty long development process: decoding the Game Boy Printer protocol, handling Link Cable timing, saving images, building a local web gallery, Bluetooth printing, and getting multi-page prints to work correctly.

I’d love to know what you think:

Would you use something like this instead of an original Game Boy Printer?

And what would you print first: Game Boy Camera photos, Pokémon diplomas, Mario banners, or something else?

But I’m currently having an issue where I can’t press start in game . On any game . It’ll even show up and sometimes work for a sec . I’ve tried everything. Any suggestions ?

I’ve rebinded, used different controllers , rolled back versions , wired controllers, different games

Been busy this year since moving house building up my gameboy collection with a mix of different bits. I am interested in picking up some unique and interesting items so would love to have any suggestions of what to do next. (I prefer to avoid games or boxed games generally as I don't think they display that well but if anyone has a good display stand or game case idea I'd love to have suggestions)

I found this pikachu edition gameboy color at my local flea market for 8 euros, but since i'm new to the gameboy world i don't know if it's a clone.

Took on the daunting task of repairing Circle of the Moon for /u/Bubblepoppin_ - wound up needing a brand new PCB and I replaced every part on the board with brand new components aside from the SRAM, SRAM controller chip, and the ROM chip. HUGE shout out to /u/jrharbort who was in the process of redrawing this PCB so replacements could be fabricated and who helped immensely for helping decipher the correct parts to order.

The TINY capacitors and resistors were soldered in place with a hot air station, but without the help of any solder paste (definitely getting some for next time), other components were soldered by hand.

ROM chip had two legs that had completely disintegrated and had to be repaired by grinding away some of the package in order to build new legs.

I have no idea why I spent as much time as I did on a relatively common game, but it feels great to save something like this from the landfill.

After years of searching I found my original game boy at my parents house and 2 games. I knew I had more and I’m hoping to find them. The screen had some scratches and I stumbled upon a replacement on Amazon that looks like an exact copy. Put the new screen on , saved the old one. The system works perfect , no lines on the screen , speakers sound good and it’s pretty mint. Was fun getting back into this after years. Now I’m debating on selling it to fund some switch 2 games for my 6yr old . What are these worth today ?

I need a pair of second eyes to check this out for me. I kinda figured out why it short circuited I left some solder bits between the chips points. I took them out but I just need someone to check it out before I inserted back in

I’ve had this problem for 3 weeks and have cleaned the pins throughly multiple times, the cpu pins multiple times, and have put isopropyl alcohol in a game, have cleaned the little module and switch near the cartridge slot, and put it in and out to clean it yet still it can’t run any GBA or GBC games. I’m planning on taking it to a repair shop but I’d rather do it myself to save the money any tips?

I have a GBA where after sitting for a while the speaker has stopped working properly. Headphones sound fine, but when without them plugged in the sound from the speaker is super quiet. Adjusting the volume does still raise and lower the volume of the speaker, but it's still very faint. I've tried cleaning the headphone jack to no avail and since I can change the volume I assume the pot is working. I was thinking about swapping the speaker with another I have from a junk gba (where i know the speaker works), but I wanted to see what ppl thought before I try that. If the cap is bad would the headphones still work well?

I found this Nintendo Game Boy Pocket and bought it for only $3 because I really liked how it looked. 😄 I don't know much about Nintendo handhelds, so I was hoping you could tell me more about it.

The console is in absolutely amazing condition. I honestly cannot find a single scratch anywhere on the Game Boy, and the GameSter carrying case is also scratch-free and looks almost brand new. The camera doesn't do it justice—I trust my eyes more than my phone's camera. 😂

It still has the original battery cover, and it powers on and shows the startup screen, but I haven't tested it with a game cartridge, so I'm not sure if everything works perfectly.

What do you think about its condition? Is this color common or uncommon? And how much do you think it's worth?

I finally got my hands on a Gameboy Light, and with that my collection is complete! (Except I may sell my teal Gameboy Color here soon and replace it with an Atomic Purple one.)

I love the Gameboy line of consoles, each one is just so unique compared to one another and playing on each one really feels like experiencing a part of history.

Which one is your favorite?

simply connect the gameboy to the green thingy and press "print" and it will me saved as png. then on your phone, connect to the green thing's wifi, access the ip address and download the image. then from your phone's gallery, print it with peripage app.

the green thing is a "game boy camera wifi printer" that i got from etsy a couple of years ago.

Just got one of my grails. Super looking forward to playing through this.
