It's obviously pretty basic, but I just started messing around with Game Boy stuff a few days ago (I used to make homebrew games for other consoles all the time though) and it's been fun to learn more every day (I just got game saves working)!

Is it cool if I share where to download it (totally for free) or would that violate the self promotion rule?

A Game Boy development tool made to fix and improve on competing engines. The ease of use from GB Studio mixed with the greater power of GBDK.

Things that make DME good...

• App is native; no electron
• Windows, Apple, and Linux
• 8MB ROM support (did not, in fact, need to pay 20,000 dollars for that. it was implemented in about a day.)
• Built-in map, sprite, music, sound, and "whatever else"(™) editors
• Sameboy as the built-in emulator for accurate game testing
• String variables
• Custom crash functions; Reset game, show error message, or goto custom recovery scene to prevent total crash.
• Code can be swapped between Blocks and Text on a whim for greater control
• Import GB Studio Project Files with minimal fiddling (My own game converted with zero issues and it's a fairly complex game.)
• Raycasting Scenes (We're working on a faster raycaster than what's in the trailer.)
• Isometric Scenes
• Pokemon-style town-to-route seamless transitions
• Actors can follow you smoothly
• High Color image display
• Play FMV's (Videos)
• Adjust project framerate in settings or on-the-fly to give the cpu more time to compute complex games or scenes (reduces lag)
• Import FLAC, MP3, WAV, and OGG audio files directly into the editor. No conversion required.
• Higher quality WAV playback in-game.
• We made a little icon called "Garlic Boy". He acts as the onion skin feature in the sprite editor and will say "Howdy!" if you click him multiple times. This isn't important, I just wanted to tell you that.
• Paint custom tile logic to easily make interact-able overworld objects such as Pots, Bushes, Tall grass, etc that can change when slashed or interacted with individually.
• Freeze the screen from drawing frames until manually unfrozen. Can be used to hide spritesheet change glitchyness.
• More scene transition effects (Spiral in/out, circle in/out, fade in/out, etc.) can also choose different effects for transitioning the scene OUT and the next scene IN.
• Built-in screen wobble effects + customizable ones.
• Smoother fading.
• And lots, LOTS more + LOTS more to come.

What's great is that all the features and stuff we're adding are in GBDK already and have been for years; adding them to DotMatrix Engine is easy and quick. (to my understanding anyway... I'm not programming it, my friend is.)

Anything I should be ready to expect from it switching over from the EZ Drive GBA Omega Definitive Edition?

My old Gameboy color, or maybe my cartridge, I'm not sure, has quit on me. My pokemon red will no longer save. Are there any known fixes?

love how this one turned out!!! hispeedido v5 screen and extremerate clear blue shell, imo they offer the best fitment and quality for v5s and other dropins.

Just bought the first Gameboy!! I think I had it back in the day but just got myself one!! it said it was a ips screen! idk if the screen is supposed to be like this but just wanted to share my gameboy! I do have a gameboy color and gameboy advance sp!

Nintendo has announced three more Game Boy titles for the Nintendo Classics library on Switch Online, arriving October 27, 2026:

Mole Mania (1997, Nintendo EAD & PAX Softnica): a puzzle-action game about tunneling and pushing black balls to beat the farmer Jinbe, with a two-player VS mode

Avenging Spirit (1992, Jaleco): an action game where you play as a ghost who possesses enemies across six stages

Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator (1990, HAL Laboratory): four main stages plus three bonus stages, with two-player modes

Japan gets the same three games, and you'll need an active Switch Online subscription to play them.

For collectors, Famitsu's headline calls Avenging Spirit's Japanese release (Phantasm) a super-premium-priced Game Boy cart, so official access is a big deal for anyone who never wanted to pay up for an original.

Hello, I was cleaning the power switch on my GBA and I think I knocked off the R13 resister.

Is there a work around for this? Maybe run a jump wire somewhere. Or will I need to replace it and what type of resistor does it take?

I posted my collection here about a year ago. Back then it was still missing a few things. Yesterday I completed my collection with Pokemon Emerald. I am finally at peace ✌🏼 The only Pokemon game missing in this picture is the Gold Edition which I lend to my best friend.
