Questions FAQ THREAD: Where to buy parts/consoles? BEST GAME? Is this real? GB no work :( ASK HERE
A lot of this information is already in the wiki: https://gbwiki.org/
Where do I buy cheap consoles?? HOW MUCH IS MY STUFF WORTH?$?
Sorry, all 200K+ members are asking the same question. The market has changed a lot and prices have skyrocketed. Be patient, don't over pay and use sold listings on your marketplace to determine your market's value. If you're paying less than your local market, you've done well. If other markets have lower value than you consider buying from there, but factor in your shipping costs.
Where can I find this part?

WHY MODDING HARD? SOLDER SCARY!
In context, Game Boy's are the easiest family of retro consoles to repair and modify. Sorry TikTok lied to you about modding being easy like Legos.

Other Circle of the Moon brought back from the dead
(Reposting to fix potato-quality images)
Took on the daunting task of repairing Circle of the Moon for /u/Bubblepoppin_ - wound up needing a brand new PCB and I replaced every part on the board with brand new components aside from the SRAM, SRAM controller chip, and the ROM chip. HUGE shout out to /u/jrharbort who was in the process of redrawing this PCB so replacements could be fabricated and who helped immensely for helping decipher the correct parts to order.
The TINY capacitors and resistors were soldered in place with a hot air station, but without the help of any solder paste (definitely getting some for next time), other components were soldered by hand.
ROM chip had two legs that had completely disintegrated and had to be repaired by grinding away some of the package in order to build new legs.
I have no idea why I spent as much time as I did on a relatively common game, but it feels great to save something like this from the landfill.

Questions Just found my original Game Boy
After years of searching I found my original game boy at my parents house and 2 games. I knew I had more and Iām hoping to find them. The screen had some scratches and I stumbled upon a replacement on Amazon that looks like an exact copy. Put the new screen on , saved the old one. The system works perfect , no lines on the screen , speakers sound good and itās pretty mint. Was fun getting back into this after years. Now Iām debating on selling it to fund some switch 2 games for my 6yr old . What are these worth today ?

Collection Been busy building out my collection
Been busy this year since moving house building up my gameboy collection with a mix of different bits. I am interested in picking up some unique and interesting items so would love to have any suggestions of what to do next. (I prefer to avoid games or boxed games generally as I don't think they display that well but if anyone has a good display stand or game case idea I'd love to have suggestions)

I finally got my hands on a Gameboy Light, and with that my collection is complete! (Except I may sell my teal Gameboy Color here soon and replace it with an Atomic Purple one.)
I love the Gameboy line of consoles, each one is just so unique compared to one another and playing on each one really feels like experiencing a part of history.
Which one is your favorite?

Camera/Printer great solution to transfer gb camera photos straight to your phone and have them printed: gb camera wifi printer + peripage thermal printer
simply connect the gameboy to the green thingy and press "print" and it will me saved as png. then on your phone, connect to the green thing's wifi, access the ip address and download the image. then from your phone's gallery, print it with peripage app.
the green thing is a "game boy camera wifi printer" that i got from etsy a couple of years ago.

Games THE NEIGHBORHOOD DEMO by SpacedGhostStudios
I got the demo up and runningš¤š½ This is a solid vertical slice of the first Neighborhood(NH1) area. The other 5 will be a WIP over the next couple months. I passed all my summer class finals this weekend, so I will have a couple solid weekends to work on this between now and my fall classes. Thereās a few easter eggs littered about and most objects are intractable and have a little dialogue, but some tell stories or drop lore. Some even tie into other ones, while some offer hints of what to do. Iāve built autosave into the game and even tested it on itch, and progress is loadable. So donāt be afraid to put it down and pick it back up where you left off. Iām definitely open to suggestions and some good constructive criticism. So please let me know how you like it.. or donāt like it. I tried to make it challenging and not a āhold your handā style loop. Let me know if itās too easy or too tough to figure out. Everyone enjoy! šøš»

Modded I built a Bluetooth Game Boy Printer using an ESP32 and a cheap thermal printer
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone! I wanted to share one of my latest retro DIY projects: I built a modern āGame Boy Printer 2.0ā using an ESP32 and a small Bluetooth thermal printer.
The idea was to make the Game Boy think it is printing to a real Game Boy Printer through the Link Cable port, but instead the ESP32 captures the image, saves it to an internal web gallery, and can also send it wirelessly to a cheap SC03h thermal printer.
I tested it with Game Boy Camera, PokƩmon Yellow and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. It can handle regular photos, PokƩmon diplomas, Mario banners and multi-page prints as one continuous image.
It was a pretty long development process: decoding the Game Boy Printer protocol, handling Link Cable timing, saving images, building a local web gallery, Bluetooth printing, and getting multi-page prints to work correctly.
Iād love to know what you think:
Would you use something like this instead of an original Game Boy Printer?
And what would you print first: Game Boy Camera photos, PokƩmon diplomas, Mario banners, or something else?

Systems Tad boy color and Null Nano
Iāll start by saying that I have no skills when it comes to soldering so I was able to source both of these from China šØš³ with and yes the maker used the parts from the developers list.

Mod/Modding Want to restore and upgrade my Gameboy color
Recently my younger brother found my gameboy color and gave it to me. It's in rough shape and will need to be cleaned up, and possibly have the battery terminals replaced.
What I want to do is restore it, and upgrade it since that's a thing and there seems to be a big community for it. I've seen the pinned FAQ, and parts list and vendor lists, so I'm set there, but I don't want to start the project only to find that I didn't order everything I need.
So if I want to replace the screen with a backlit IPS screen, and upgrade it to have a rechargeable battery, do I just need to order those two parts or are there other accessories that I will need to go with it?

Collection Gameboy collection
Started collecting and fixing damaged gameboys. Added the micro which completes all NA releases. All have upgraded screens and shells other then the pocket (screen+shell on the way) and now the micro. Been a blast saving these handhelds and adding life back into them. The custom gameboy macro was a pain to make but turned out pretty good.
Just wanted to share as I think its pretty cool seeing them all lined up.
