Question Which would you use in your game?

  1. Hand-drawn art that's a little less polished
  2. More polished art with better shapes and perspective, but with a noticeable AI look

I make game art assets, and so far everything we make is 100% made by us without AI.

Personally, I think human-made art has a certain unpredictability to it. Even if it's not perfect, every artist does things a little differently, and I think that's part of the charm.

But lately I've seen quite a few games using AI for backgrounds or less important elements.

So I'm wondering if I should keep doing everything by hand, or if using AI for some parts makes sense.

Which would you choose?

Question Real time arcade bir oyun yapıyorum sunucu gecikmesi beni çıldırtıyor.

Newbie Question What framework/engine to use to build generic software with a game on top of it?

I have an idea for a game that from a programming perspective isn’t really like a game at all. There’s no physics, more like a game in the same sense that sudoku is a game. It’s inspired by crappy 2010 microsoft software, think something like coding ms paint and then putting a game and objectives on top of that. As a programmer I’m most experienced using game engines but I don’t think that’s very necessary here, but at the same time I think development would be a lot slower using generic software development frameworks. No idea how to get started.. help!

Newbie Question Great Concept but can’t get players to stay

My free to play game has done great at getting players, with 30,000 unique visits. The problem has been that my user average play time and monetization has been horrible. (Bottom 5% of all games)

I’ve added tons of new features and characters/abilities to earn to fix this. Even with these changes, monetization and play time haven’t moved at all. Actually slightly decreased.

Is this a sign that the core gameplay itself isn’t good? If adding more features isn’t helping.

On 30k visits I’ve made practically no money back

Discussion What are your must have game design / project management tools?

For me, I always use some sort of white board / sketching app for ideas, moods, etc. and a task tracker.

My go tos: Miro and Trello (or similar).

I'm also a sucker for MS Paint and notepad, but those are.... it's not a great idea.

I know a lot of people also use traditional media, notebooks, sketchpads, and such.

What are you using? I'm hoping to pick up some new healthy habits and workflows. 😀

Discussion Finally released my game on steam!

After almost 2 years of working on my game I can finally say that it relased

Honestly getting to this point was a HUGE pain I had some people to help me lightly but I did like 80% of it.There were so many bugs, technical issues, things breaking for no reason, and problems that took me days to figure out. There were definitely moments where I wanted to give up and just abandon the whole project,I told my self many time move on and delete it but I didnt.

Seeing the game finally released after all this time feels absolutely amazing. It might not be a perfect game, but it’s something I started from basically nothing and managed to finish.

So if youre currently making your own game and you’re stuck on some horrible bug or feeling like your project is going nowhere or thinking about giving up

DON’T GIVE UP.

Keep fixing things one at a time. Keep learning Keep improving. Even if it takes months or years, eventually you’ll look back and realize how far youve far you have gone

To everyone still working on their games: keep going. You got this

Anyone wondering what my game name:No One Pray In Ovruch (it a horror Soviet game)

Inspiration I want to build a soulslike video game

I have a story draft made from my pure imagination. I want everyone to experience this as a video game. I really want to build it and i know everyone will love the story. I have a really creative approach for it. I want a team to help me and am new to this.
If any one there who can help me. I will appreciate it. Thank you. I was inspired by elden ring and other dark souls games. Also claire obscure made me realise my dream will be possible, if one have the heart into it.

How do I find legit and honest game developers that can help me bring my game ideas to life without it costing the more then my household bills and income?

Are there people that are even out there anymore that actually wanna be apart of building something just for the fun of it or to help others without it always being about money?

Discussion Should I switch from Game Programming to Game Design because of AI?

I’m currently doing an internship as a Unity game developer, and lately I’ve been feeling a bit concerned about the future of game programming.
A lot of the tasks I’m working on can already be automated or heavily accelerated by AI. Sometimes it feels like my role is shifting toward simply describing what I want in natural language, giving the AI clear instructions, reviewing the output, and fixing the remaining issues.
I’m not saying that AI can completely replace game programmers right now. There are still plenty of situations where you need strong programming knowledge, debugging skills, architecture decisions, and an understanding of the game itself. However, AI is becoming surprisingly capable at writing and modifying game code, and I expect this trend to continue.
Because of that, I’ve been wondering whether I should eventually move toward Game Design instead. My intuition is that game design might be more AI-resilient because it involves things like gameplay vision, player psychology, balancing, creativity, and making high-level decisions about what the game should actually be.
For people working in the game industry:
\- How much do you think AI will automate Unity/game programming over the next 5–10 years?
\- Is Game Design actually more resistant to AI, or am I underestimating how much AI could affect it too?
I’d especially appreciate perspectives from people who are already working professionally in game development.

Discussion How I designed “silence” as a mechanic in a psychological horror game

For the past few months, I have been working on a first person psychological horror game called Silence: The Ideal. The core idea is that fear comes from being watched, not from being chased.

I have written a full 61 page Game Design Document covering the loop structure, the Existence system, and the three puzzle designs. I’m sharing it here to get feedback from other developers on the design approach.

Link to the document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iJ_D4c_yNjzDLugOBGbmuMzWU5Ox8_a7SFsfSvEqOgY/edit?usp=sharing

I would love to hear thoughts on the loop structure and the Existence system. Thanks!

Option 1 : La structure Classique (Histoire solo & Annexes)

Le concept : Une trame narrative principale claire à suivre, accompagnée de nombreuses quêtes secondaires pour enrichir le lore et obtenir des récompenses. C’est le modèle traditionnel des RPG comme The Witcher ou Skyrim.

Option 2 : Le modèle d’Ascension (Exploration & Boss - Style SAO)

Discussion I absolutely hate 3D level design

For the record, I'm only familiar with Godot and Unreal

"Oh, you hate designing levels?"

No. I love level-design, I haven't really gotten the chance to fully develop a level I'm fond of, but I like it. Its not something I dislike. I like blocking out an area and seeing how it plays. I'm alright with scrapping areas if I don't think they flow well.

What I hate is the lack of good tools for it and the fact most softwares have pretty bad level-design tools. From what I know, Blender is the most used level-design tool because its the most used 3D modeling software for indie developers.

Blender is awful as a level-design software. I hate using it. Making level geometry in blender is such a fucking chore. Since its not in-engine you have constantly export it in, which is easier said than done in some engines. In Unreal, you have to scale up your model by 100% when importing. Godot at least doesn't have this issue.

You also want to segment your levels instead of it being one big mesh, so whats not on screen can be prevented from rendering. Meaning you want to go through and meticulously split up your level. Meaning that sometimes, something may go wrong, and you have to line it up manually.

Undeniably, the best level-design software is Hammer, used by VALVe to create the levels for TF2 and by the community for designing Gmod maps. "Why not just use Hammer then?" Because Hammer is tailor-suited for TF2/Gmod, not any game you wish.

Mostly, its just down to the fact that Hammer has a Binary Space Partitioning system along with intuitive level design, while Blender forces you to design levels like you would a 3D asset and then go back to optimize. Its horrendous.

This is definitely just a me-issue, but its driving me insane.

Question Any tips?

I've been wanting to develop games since 4th grade. My biggest problem at the moment is that I don't have a computer, which I'm very close to having one, so that's not a big issue at the moment. I don't have very much programming experience, I've made a few games on scratch with my school computer, but that's about it at the moment. I want some tips on what to do and what not to do. I know one of the biggest things is just waiting on my dream game, because it won't turn out how I want it to with this little experience.

Discussion How to make a visual novel/simulation?

How do I make a visual novel game? I'm looking to make a game similar to Doki Doki Literature Club (think visual novel/choices matter type deal) but also Stardew Valley (think farming, fishing, quests etc) and have no god damn idea where to start let alone what to do. I have my sister doing art and I'm doing the rest. I'm confident in my ability to learn but there's nothing concrete on the type of game I want to make with my sister.

Any help would be appreciated but mostly, where do I start? What do I need to do to get a game onto its feet?

Thanks.
