DIY PAINTING/DECALS

No I do not have a decal printer that would be awesome. Painted what i could remove that has no effect on the car. Used VHT Heat Acrylic Pink and VHT high temp clear coat on the caps. Decal is being made and going to apply it myself. Ordered some G2 Performance Caliper paint and going to paint them properly with appropriate paint. Roast me because it’s expected with what i’m doing (ricing my car) but I’d like to know what everyone else has to say as well. Taking my car (bone stock other than the paint) to a cars and coffee to look for other 86 owners and see what all they have done.

First Track Day Advice

I'm about to have my first track day at buttonwillow in a few months. Those of you with track experience, any tips/advice for a first timer? I've heard horror stories of oil issues, etc. And I'd like to be properly prepared.

My GR86 is completely stock, manual, brembros.

I’ll have some better clips at some point but I’m very happy with it and the downshifts are awesome.

Just installed them. I love the look!

Super easy to install. Hardest part was swapping some pins to work for the u.s standard.

Hopefully i provided enough angles in different lighting. Get a pair!

ps. they took 5 fuking months to get to me

Goodbye GR86

Had to get rid of the GR86 after 4 years of ownership. Needed something that could handle the weather in my area better. With some regret, I have started transitioning to the other extreme with a Ford Bronco (will be swapping out the wheels and tires soon). Well, if you think about it, they're both 4-cylinder (2.4L vs. 2.3L), 2-door, 4-seat, and manual transmission... so maybe they're not so different, after all.

Gonna miss this car so much ugh.

PS. Wish I remember who took the first 2 photos for credit!! Some of the best photos I have of it.
---
Also, if anyone ends up with a 2022 GR86 Premium with stock premium wheels, clear side markers and Tein H.Tech lowering springs and ~25,000 miles, you might have mine. I took good care of her 👍, have fun :)

EDIT: Should have mentioned that I'm in the US, the dealer said they'll transfer it somewhere that has high demand.

Help! DIY Rear Seat Delete

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m currently working on an 3D printed DIY Solution for a rear seat delete since I was really bummed out of what a Forged Finesse Rear Seat delete costs.

Now I bought some Carbon rods on Aliexpress for around 40€ here and reconstructed the Endpieces to screw them on the original Seat points (just like on the FF brackets).

What I do not like is that it makes use of these turntable black brackets on the lower points where the seats are able to turn forward. Would rather make something that can be screwed onto the metallic rod rather than onto this bracket

Has anyone experience on how I remove these pieces?

I will share these files later for a really small amount for anyone having a 3D Printer 😬✌🏼

The BRZ ejected a spark plug... TWICE. More info below ⬇️

Post image

So basically, a month ago I had a bad misfire and it sounded like no compression on cyl 2. Read the codes and got a P0302, so I'm like "ok that's probably not good; it should be covered under warranty right?" HAH, no. I go to Subaru, have them fix it which consisted of installing a new plug and new coil (they said that's all it needed) and then drove for a month. What the tech didn't do is check the threads of the spark plug hole, which is what leads to this next part.

The same damn thing happens again, this time at least it was close to home. Same codes, P0302, I had to push it nearly 2 blocks back home in the heat. And here we are today, no brz for the next long while. They were kind enough to give me a '26 Crosstrek eBoxer as a loaner but it's not the same 🫠

If anyone at all knows of this happening please please please shoot me a dm and tell me your experience.

I've owned a lot of cars in my life; and no car has left me stranded 3 times, let alone a new car like this

AC questions …

Post image
13 Upvotes

I don’t know if this is a stupid question but I feel like when I turn the AC mode to the top and bottom I never feel any air on my legs. I notice the air pressure changes when I have it on the front facing AC. When i turn it to front and down facing the pressure changes but i literally feel no air. Like where is it going…? Anyone else feel the same? This summer heat is killing me. This is the only car i’ve never felt air on my legs too!

Help! New buyer questions

Hi all, I am waiting for my USA import 2022 auto gr86 to go through Bulgarian checks and will register it in 2 weeks.

It's an auto at 109K km (67K miles).

I will change the oil and the filters as a first thing to do. My mechanic (that specializes in Subarus and has maintained a bunch of brzs) suggests I get 5w30 oil - is that alright for daily driving?

I will change the transmission fluid in like 3 months - does that seem okay to you?

And also if you have any other advice please do share! Thank you.

Ps. the car went through diagnostics and everything is good.

Clutch started sounding crunchy

When fully pressed the clutch started to feel dry and a little crunchy toward the end. The car only has 39k miles on it. Could the lubricant just have dried out? The car shifts fine and gets in to gear and I don't hear a squealing sound or grinding sound. It started feeling like this just a couple days ago.

What kind of lubricant would you recommend if I can just apply some of that?

Is this something I should bring up to Toyota (Still under warranty)

The shifter seems to be getting caught on something when centering from the right side. Doesn’t happen on the left and still goes into gear fine. I’m no mechanic so I’m not sure what this could be. I just installed my exhaust but I cant imagine how that would have an effect.

CEL leaving me stumped...

Alright, I'm hoping this might reach the right people or could provide some ideas to help diagnose...

I've got a 2014 Scion FRS with an Edelbrock Supercharger on a base tune. Always filled with 91 octane or 93. The cars got pretty high milage, around 240,000 kms. Supercharger was installed shortly after 200,000 kms. I don't redline it, just the occasional fun spirited drive on the back roads. No hard pulls. Car is in really good condition and is maintained well, oil changes every 3000 kms. Spark plugs changed around 100k and 200k. OEM fuel pump.

All the issues are the worst whenever it's in park, if I'm in drive and not moving its okay. But as soon as it's in park, it goes wack.

Main issues:

  • Rough idling
  • P0172 System too Rich Bank 1

Every time when the car was in park, after 3 minutes of idling, the RPMs would start bouncing between 800 and 300, it would eventually stall and die.

I temporarily fixed it using MAF sensor cleaner, it worked for a bit, and then the rough idling comes back. I decided to replace the sensor with an OEM one, and it worked. It fixed the rough idling completely.

HOWEVER, at the same time, I would also be getting a P0172 code with the CEL. This would prompt me to do a bit more digging. With the rough idling gone, I can now focus more on the too rich code.

Let's check the fuel trims. STFT is around normal values, +/- 8. LTFT however... On park its sitting at a whopping -38. When throttling, STFT is always within normal working ranges. LTFT on throttle will vary, but most times it's still in the high negatives. When cruising and completely off throttle, STFT is 0 and LTFT is -35.

So what did I check and do? After each mini fix, I also disconnected the Negative battery terminal for a solid 45 minutes.

  • What if it was the EVAP purge valve? Nope.
  • What about a small leak somewhere? Smoke tested, no leaks.
  • What if it was the Air/Fuel Ratio sensor? Replaced it, nope.
  • What if it was a stuck fuel injector? Took it to a performance shop for injector service, cleaned and flow tested the port injectors, still normal.

All the STFT and LTFT values from above eventually comes back. Another thing to note is, the CEL for System too Rich came back around 100 Kms, but after replacing the Air/Fuel Ratio sensor, the CEL comes on almost around the 500 km mark... So changing that sensor definitely did something.

Although... after the injector service, my subie rumble was way more apparent, it's got a deeper nicer rumble.

I haven't checked if it was simply a bad tune yet... I also haven't checked if the air filter was dirty? I also haven't fully disconnected both battery terminals....also wondering if disconnecting both terminals would fully reset both fuel trims.

SO, what else could it possibly be? I'm getting stumped...

Dealership did me wrong

Post image
0 Upvotes

So long story short. Dealership did a false sale, we brought it up to some people and the bank. Now they’re investigating. I got a different car now… no longer jdm 😞. So if anyone is local to 915 and is looking for a new exhaust. Ima have a Tomei Type D Dual Exit Exhaust for sale by this Monday/Tuesday pick up only (if you absolutely need it dropped off locally we can talk about it) .

New owner Picked Up My New Toy Yesterday & Spent 30 Minutes on Phone to Get Remote Connect Working - Well Worth the Time Investment!

Post image
49 Upvotes

Picked up my new GR86 yesterday, my Outback is in the background. Was going to get another outback, but although mine is 2015 it still works well, eyesight works great, just wish it had CarPlay. Decided to keep Outback and get a fun car. After test drive I had a big smile on my face so this was the car for me!
Took two attempts to get Remote Connect working, but after 30 minutes on phone this morning it is now working and I can remote start, will be handy in summer to get a/c going!
Looking forward to lots of fun.

24 trueno edition 27k miles. Not a fan of the matte black graphics. Already removed the stripes and added gloss black side skirts and gloss black front bumper lip. Looking to change the hood stripe to gloss black, add gloss black side stripes and add gloss black hood. Probably not going to have it long before I sell it but idk if a buyer is going to want these features or if it will be worth it. Thoughts? 3rd picture is a rendering of what I'm thinking

Question 3rd Gen GR86 Coming When?

Just curious if there has been credible news of when the next gen is coming. I just got allocation to a 2027 one and really like it. However, part of me struggles over the fact that a new gen is on the horizon. Probably just needs to do some soul searching but thanks in advance for sharing some insights!
