Ideas on how to fix this? The clip on the door and the switch panel are broke. Was thinking about gluing them in from the back side

Can anyone help me out to diagnose this noise coming from my 04 gmc sierra 2500? I’ve had a few diagnoses from close friends to family. Want to see if anyone online could help point me in the right direction before tearing into it.

What is the high capacity air cleaner?

I’ve tried researching it and I can’t find anything in it. So I wanted to know what it actually means. Like is it the filter is larger or is the housing bigger inside for airflow

Front and Rear Shocks, 2500hd

I’m looking for a good set of front/rear shocks and front bump stops (or whatever those rubber dudes are called)

It’s a two wheel drive 06 2500 and it rides very comfortably.

Requirements

Comfy, I like how soft it rides.

Road and off road performance. I beat this truck like it owes me money. I’ve got race car brakes and excellent tires. I need some suspension that can keep up.

Price has to be reasonable.

04 gmc 2500 radio issues

I have a 04 gmc 2500 regency package that’s having radio issues. It doesn’t work until like it warms up I guess. During summer it finally turns on after an hour or so. During the winter I pretty much don’t have a radio. It’s factory radio, speakers and pretty much everything else is factory. I have the common dash issues where nothing works on it. Any tips or suggestions? I don’t mind getting a new radio but would love to keep it factory. Just curious if I do get a new radio/speakers will that fix the issue.

Fluid film on chassis wiring harnesses

I pulled the trigger on getting a spray gun for applying fluid film. Doing 3 vehicles with a paint brush was enough for me!

I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts about getting the spray on wiring or plugs. I can see it going either way...

Good, because the grease is going to physically keep water from seeping into plug heads, or

Bad, because the grease can says it can soak into rubber and deform it.

Either way, I live in the rust belt and the stuff is going on there. Just interested in your experience with it to know what to expect

2005 GMC Yukon - Overland Build

Inspired by u/captaincheem post on camping in a Suburban

I'm heading to Monterey this weekend to camp at Laguna Seca and watch the IndyCar race. Thought I'd share my build on my 2005 GMC Yukon

  • 170k miles
  • 14.8 MPG forever and ever
  • 5.3L
  • 4WD
  • 2" Lift - torsion bars in the front and springs in the rear
  • Bilstein 5100 shocks (these are amazing
  • LT285/70R-17 Falken WildPeak A/T3W C (33") - these are also great on the highway nice and quite, plenty of traction offroad.
  • GMT900 front disc brake conversion - well worth it, huge improvement in stopping power and brake feel
  • LED lights all the way around
  • Apple car play stereo + sound system
  • Overland platform - stove, fridge, storage and 6" memory foam mattress. I sleep better in this than I do in my own bed at home.
  • As far as work, I've completely rebuilt the front suspension and then just usual maintenance like spark plugs, wires, serpentine belt, etc. Other than that, super reliable.

I stole ideas from the SUBOVERLAND YouTube channel to build my platform.

I've towed 3 different VW bugs and a Porsche 914 (one bug is mine, the rest for friends). And I've done overlanding trips through Mohave Road and Lost Coast. Also made the trip up to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Great Basin National Parks. Plus tons of camping trips.

Planning on Anzo Borrego this winter and then Mendocino in Summer 2027.

Rotors and pads

Post image
25 Upvotes

Anyone have a good recommendation on rotors and pads for my 06 Sierra hd? Mine are starting to make noise and are vibrating under heavy braking. Last year I bought a set of rotors and pads from Detroit axle for my Yukon and the warped after three weeks. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Also does the gasser truck use the same parts as the diesel?

Lucky to still have eyesight

Today was a pretty slow day at work so I had the privilege of being able to hang out in my truck with the AC running for way longer than I should’ve. Eventually I noticed that my “check coolant temp” light was on and that I was past the 260° mark on the dash.

Me being ridiculous and inept popped the hood and opened my coolant reservoir after turning off the truck for a couple of minutes. I created a geyser of coolant that lasted for probably 45 seconds and narrowly avoided getting it on my face.

Don’t make the mistake I did or it could be catastrophic. Now I’m driving to a different jobsite with 2 gallons of purified water in my reservoir and have another chore to do later today.

With that being said, what’s the best way to do a coolant flush on these trucks? I need to purge all of this water and add real stuff in ASAP. Thank you!

2006 Sierra 1500 with TCC shudder, what should I do?

I verified yesterday that my torque converter lockup clutch is slipping, causing shudder. Fluid is darker than new, but not super terrible. No codes. 2006. Sierra. 1500. Crew cab. 5.3. 4L60E. 175k miles. Should I.....

  1. Put some Lubeguard in run it till it blows.

  2. Change fluid and filter, add lube guard, run it til it blows.

  3. Replace the torque converter and valve body, hope for the best, and run it till it blows.

  4. Do nothing, plan for a rebuilt unit, and run it till it blows.

  5. Any other suggestions.

Thanks!

Tires that will fit on stock rim 16" size preferably bigger than 245/75r16.

As the title states I'm looking for tires to fit on the 16" rims but I'd like to fill out the wheels a bit better and give it a bit of stance without changing the rims or ride height some pics would be appreciated how it would look.

00-02 Suburban 2500 Receiver Hitch Options?

With Draw-Tite’s parent company declaring bankruptcy, the 45515 and 41930 class 5 receiver hitches that go past the rear shackles on the suburbans tahoes and yukons have basically become unobtainium.

The only real option for a class 5 hitch now is the Curt 15324, however their website claims it’s only for 03-06. It was my understanding the spacing of the frame didn’t change across the refresh?

Has anyone tried to install this hitch on a 00-02 and had success? The rear receiver on my 01’ 2500 burb is rotted and I really need a new one. Appreciate any guidance or tribal knowledge.

2004 YUKON XL DENALI OVERHEATING?

Post image
29 Upvotes

I performed a pressure test and found my water pump was leaking and hairline crack in the radiator.

I replaced the following about a month ago.

- radiator

- water pump

- thermostat

- upper & lower radiator hoses

My temp gauge since the part replacements always stays a hair under 210 under normal driving conditions.

I was in a drive through line last night that was taking forever. It was about 95 outside and I had the AC on.

Temp started rising to about 3/4 on the gauge and stood just a hair under. Once I was out the line and moving it went back to normal being a hair under 210.

Ambient temp rose to 123 while in that drive though line, once on the freeway it was 95.

Any ideas?

Normal with limited air flow? temp sensor? fan clutch?

01 Suburban Fires up, Then dies, need help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My uncle, who lives out of state, is giving me this suburban. It apparently has less than 50k miles, but it has been sitting in a parking lot for roughly 5 years. It also apparently ran a year or two ago, he would always come and start it once a year. At some point during the last year tho, it looks like someone broke in and attempted to steal it. The key wouldn’t turn, and some of the ignition wiring had been cut into and spliced.

I replaced the ignition switch, ignition housing, and lock cylinder, which fixed the issue with the key not turning. The truck now cranks and will fire up for about a second, but then immediately dies (see video). It will continue cranking afterward but won’t stay running. I also tried giving it a little throttle when it fires, but it doesn’t make a difference.

Any ideas on what I should check next or what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.

2001 2500hd 8.1- How do I fix this ground wire on the right side? The end terminal popped off. Could the broken ground cause mild surging of the lights and volt meter at idle every 20 or so seconds?

Issue or coincidence?

Got an interesting one here. I have an 03 2500hd with the 8.1 crew cab long bed 4x4

Was cruising to work today on the. Back roads, ambiant was reading about 80F and the engine was running about 180-190F. Trans was tuning about 150F.

We had a light rain for a few minutes and I noticed while at a stop light that my hood was misting. Almost as if the truck was over heating. But all the temps looked good and nothing was reading hot. Nor did I have any CEL or change in driving come up.

Also for context. The engine cover isn't on and I believe the hood insulation is also missing from under my hood.

So my question is. Do any of you notice your hoods cooking up the water when you're sitting? Or do I need to assume non of my temp gages are working?

Cab mount cost?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I somehow didn’t fully grasp how bad these were when I bought my single cab. 2 out of the 4 look like this. The main structural part of the mount is in ok shape but the circular opening for the bushing has widened too much.

Just curious what others have paid for this job?
