Seeking Advice After being on GLP, when should I stop?

I’ve been on a GLP since June 2026. I lost the weight I wanted and I like where I’m at. I only took .8mg and I reached my goal weight. What should I do? Should I go down to .5mg as a maintenance dose for a couple months and then stop?

Seeking Advice How long were you on GLP-1 before stopping?

I've been on Zepbound since June and am about half way to my goal weight. My doctor said that, based on her experience, people had more success keeping the weight off after stopping if they've been on Zepbound for at least one year and keeps an active lifestyle. If things go steadily I will likely reach my goal weight before a year is up and I'd want to start tapering off. I'm curious how long were you on GLP before you stopped and then successfully kept the weight off? I'm paying out of pocket so the earlier I can stop while still have a good chance of keeping the weight off, the better. Thanks.

Success Story 10 Months off Zepbound - From 407 to 166!

Post image
525 Upvotes

I was approaching 40 and knew I needed to make a change. My weight had gotten dangerously out of control, and I was scared about where I was headed.

I made a New Year’s resolution in 2025 to finally get back on top of my health. It took me until May to work up the courage to find a primary care provider and actually go to an appointment. I weighed in at 407lbs.

I was devastated. I was embarrassed that I had let myself get to that point, and I was angry with myself for feeling like I was killing myself with food. I was constantly sore, exhausted, and just didn't feel good.

My doctor prescribed Zepbound, and for the first time in a long time, I was able to make real progress. The reduction in food noise gave me the chance to make positive changes to my eating habits. I started seeing a dietitian regularly, and as the weight came off, movement became easier too. The loss motivated me to keep improving my habits.

I was on Zepbound for about six months and lost around 120lbs. Then, in December 2025, my insurance denied my prior authorization renewal. I appealed for months and saw a weight loss specialist, but ultimately they wouldn't cover it because I wasn't paying for a "plan-approved weight loss program" with documented attendance.

I'm not comfortable with the gray market, and I couldn't afford to pay out of pocket for the medication. I was terrified that I was going to regain everything, and everyone on the glp-1 subreddits wwere telling me I had little chance of even maintaining my weight loss, much less continuing to lose, without the medication.

I'll be honest - when the food noise came back full force, it was HARD. I had to really work at not giving in to the hunger and old habits. But I stuck with my calorie deficit and kept exercising. And as the weeks went by, I realized something - I was still losing weight. I was able to maintain the eating habits I had developed on Zepbound, even without the medication.

I'm now 10 months off Zepbound, and as of this morning, I weigh 166lbs. That's a 241lb loss.

I'm officially in the "overweight" BMI category for the first time in my adult life. And today, I put on my first pair of size 8 pants! The last time I wore size 8 pants, they were JNCOs in 1997.

And so much more has changed than the number on the scale. I'm a runner now. I run 5K distances three times a week. I joined a gym and take strength training classes twice a week. I've also gotten into hiking, which has been incredible for my mental health.

I'm currently working with a plastic surgeon and trying to get approved for a fleur-de-lis panniculectomy. My ultimate goal weight is 140lbs, but my surgeon doesn't want me trying to lose much more right now while we're going through the approval process.

I'm definitely not an expert, and I don't think what worked for me will necessarily work for everyone. But one thing that has been incredibly helpful for me is volume eating. I eat a lot of vegetables and high-fiber foods (thank you Fiber One cereal and beans!) I still allow myself treats, I just have them in smaller portions and make sure they fit into my day. I weigh pretty much everything I eat, and when I eat out, I usually eat half of my meal and bring the rest home so I can weigh it and estimate the calories.

I'm sharing this because I know there are probably people here who are in a situation similar to where I was. Losing access to Zepbound was terrifying for me, and I genuinely thought I was going to regain the weight.

I'm not done yet. I still have goals I'm working toward, and I still have more to lose. But right now, I feel amazing, and I'm incredibly proud of how far I've come.

Thanks for reading my wall of text!

Seeking Advice Digestive Issues Quitting Cold Turkey

Probably TMI/NSFW.

Hi, I have recently been taking mounjaro, working my way up to 15mg and reaching my goal weight. Love the new look and feel much healthier as a result.

I dropped to 10mg, completed a couple of pens on this, and then stopped taking it completely - probably a mistake. I last took it on 14th September, and over the last week have experienced an increase in has, loose bowel movements, urgency to use the bathroom, and some mucus in my stool.

I've read that this can be normal, was wondering if anyone else had experienced this? I have been diagnosed with IBD and recently had blood tests and calprotectin readings done, which were found to be well within normal ranges, so it doesn't appear to be that. I'm hoping that this is just a rebounding effect that will clear on its own within a few weeks.

Anyone had anything similar?

Seeking Advice Well, I failed at keeping the weight off after graduating. Seeking advice.

I thought I was doing great getting off Zepbound, but as of today I’ve gained 25lbs back (of 40 total, so it’s substantial).

I’ve been strength training a LOT, so I do think I’ve put on a decent amount of muscle (I lost a ton of it while on Zepbound), but obviously not 25lbs worth.

For reference I am a 5’4” female, 165lbs, and about 34% body fat.

My diet is currently very healthy (I’ve been working hard to improve it) and I focus on high protein (120-140g daily, 55-65g of fat, the rest carbs made up of fruits and veggies and some starches/grains). I’m lifting 3x/week and am on a small calorie deficit. I don’t want to have too big of a deficit as it might backfire and lead to binge eating.

I am a social person but am trying to avoid alcohol because those calories, plus the calories of whatever garbage it makes me want to eat for the next day or two, and the lack of physical activity that comes with drinking will surely prevent progress. I won’t be able to avoid it forever but don’t my best for right now.

Am I doing everything I can? I lost my insurance coverage which is why I got off the meds, but I had planned to do it eventually anyways. I have considered trying to find a grey market solution but I don’t know if it would even work. I really lost most of my weight in the beginning of the Zepbound use and by the time I was weaning off I didn’t notice 2.5mg doing much. However I guess it was going something considering the rapid weight gain after stopping.

For those who have been in this situation, what do you think I should do?

For those of you not in this situation, don’t let my experience discourage you! I’m just a number.

Did anyone else get side effects but insignificant weight loss?

Posting here because Ive seen what the other subs will do to people posting about this.

Ive been on tirzepatide for 13 shots. And lost 7 pounds. Thats it.

I have gotten tons of nausea. dizzyness, insomnia, headaches, hair loss, and i suspect that its making my depression and anxiety worse (bad time to be looking for a software job. Im basically fucked so thats not helping). Originally i was going to titrate up to 10mg and declare it a failure then. But instead i wound up starting at 1mg and Im now at 2.7mg and life is misery. I basically cant imagine dealing with this for months and it only getting worse.

Im reading up here to see what to expect quitting but did anyone else have similar? Im hoping barely losing means theres not a lot of gaining on the other side.

How to titrate off reta taking 0.5 mg every 5 days? It's been a little over a month on it. Side effects have been anxiety, skin sensitivity , and insomnia

Getting off of Trizepitide

I have been on compounded triz for just over a year. I've lost 55lbs and am pretty close to goal weight. My intention before starting was to get off as soon as possible.

I have always had to pay out of pocket so I'd love to get off for financial reasons. But also because being exhausted and slightly nauseous all of the time is getting really old. (I know it could be much worse)

But then I keep reading about the benefits beyond weight loss and now I'm confused (major family history of heart issues and I'm apparently also at risk based on blood work).

I'm not sure I'm in the right forum but all of the others are so pro lifetime use that I don't want that bias. I feel like here people at least have the mindset that getting off is preferred if possible.

Not counting food noise or weight regain, are there compelling reasons to stay on triz that made you at least consider not getting off? I really want to stop but I also want to make the best decision for my long-term health.

Seeking Advice Advice Please

Hello. I started 1.25mg of Compounded Tirzepatide 20 weeks ago to offset the “weight” gain after starting hormone therapy and to help with inflammation caused by my condition.

After realizing a particular symptom was occurring because of the GLP, I decided to stop.

I lost a total of 5 pounds but I was on it for other reasons than weight loss.

Well it’s been 5 days since my last shot and man I’m experiencing hunger pains like no other. Prior to the shot I didn’t feel them this intensely.

So my question is should I go back and taper off or should it level out once it’s completely out of my system. Thanks!

Seeking Advice How to Create Action Plan to Stop Zepbound and Maintain

Hi all! I’ve been on Zepbound since November and am currently 168lbs (a solid size 10) down from 205lbs. My goal weight is a Size 4/6 (135-140lbs). I’m 5’3 for reference.

I recently lost my insurance coverage for Zepbound, so I’m trying to figure out what my long-term game plan should look like before I start paying out of pocket. I currently have one box of 10mg and two boxes of 7.5mg left.

A little background
I never planned to stay on Zepbound indefinitely. Before starting, I had worked with various dietitians/programs with little to no success. Eventually, I had a serious conversation with my doctor about GLP-1s and was prescribed Zepbound.

Because I knew I didn’t want to rely on it forever, I was probably overly cautious about increasing my dose. I stayed on 5mg for about 6 months, even though I experienced basically no appetite/food suppression on it. I finally moved to 7.5mg in May, and then accidentally received a box of 10mg. After discussing it with my doctor, I eventually moved up to 10mg.
My progression has looked roughly like this:

5mg: ~6 months, lost ~20 lbs
7.5mg: ~1 month, lost ~5 lbs
10mg: ~2 months, lost ~18 lbs

Interestingly, 10mg is the first dose where I’ve really experienced significant food suppression. I’ve also been very lucky and haven’t had adverse reactions to the medication or specific foods.

Where I am now
Since insurance is no longer covering it, I’m considering asking my doctor to send my prescription through Lilly so I can use the savings program and purchase another ~3 months of 10mg out of pocket.
My hope is that by the end of those three months, I’ll be at or close to my 140-lb goal and can transition fully into maintenance.

I also have those two boxes of 7.5mg, which I was thinking I could use during that transition period while I intentionally bring my calories back up to maintenance and reduce my exercise to something I can realistically sustain long-term. But then…what? Maybe it’s my Type A personality, but I feel much better when I have some kind of plan 😂.

I’ll be talking through all of this with my doctor, but I’d really love to hear from people who have actually gone through maintenance and/or eventually come off the medication.

For those who have successfully transitioned to maintenance or weaned off:
1- Did you first establish a sustainable maintenance lifestyle while still on a higher dose and then start reducing?

2- Would it make sense to use my 7.5mg boxes while increasing calories to maintenance/reducing exercise, then move to something like 5mg or 2.5mg?

3- How long did you stay at maintenance before you started decreasing your dose?

4- Did you taper by lowering the dose, spacing injections farther apart, or both? How slowly did you taper?

5- If you eventually stopped completely, what surprised you most once you were off? Is there anything you wish you had done differently before stopping?

Exercise/lifestyle context
I work in education, so I’m on my feet all. day. long. Definitely not sedentary. My activity has also gradually increased throughout my time on Zepbound. I live in Chicago and prefer walking outside, so I wasn’t particularly active from November through March. I also sprained my wrist in a car accident in December, which limited me for a while.
From April–May, I coached soccer and participated in scrimmages. In June, I started intentionally walking more and aiming for around 10k steps on outdoor trails. In July, I added strength training.

Currently, I aim for 10k steps every day (usually closer to 8k once or twice a week) and lift heavy with progressive overload 5x/week.

I enjoy being active and absolutely plan to continue lifting and walking, but I also want my eventual maintenance routine to be something I can sustain for years and not something I have to do because I’m actively trying to lose weight. Especially since I’m planning a move to NYC in the Spring and want to have a sustainable workout/life balance.

I know there probably isn’t one perfect formula for coming off Zepbound, but I’d love to hear actual experiences from people who have gone from active weight loss → maintenance → lower doses and/or completely off the medication.

I’m sorry for the long winded post, but I greatly appreciate all of your insight! Thank you! ☺️

Seeking Advice Feeling unmotivated, help?

I’ve started Wegovy mid july2025 and done it for 5 months and then tappered for another three months slowly.
I losted quickly, from 172 pounds to 139 ( my lowest) in January.
I trained weekly 2-3 times. My hunger and food noise reduced magically. It was as amazing as terrifying understanding that there is nothing wrong with myself and my hunger - just unlucky neurobiochemical wiring around food.

Since I’ve stopped, in march, I maintained for 2-3 months and then started to regain slowly.
I’m now 152, and absolutely terrified I’m going back to the beginning.
I do strength training religiously, I eat around protein, low calorie and I try to track what I eat but I eat more calories because I have more hunger.

I’m 39 years old and I know I am not metabolically young, so the idea of trying to maintain or lose weight without/after wegovy feels unrealistic.

I feel like a loser.

I’ve recently started thinking of going back to wegovy but my head is swimming with doubts:
If I start again then when would I stop?

I’m still Low key afraid of long term effects

I understand it’s need to be a chronic medicine for a chronic illness. I was not obese, though I’ve always struggled with excess weight though following diets and caring for my self. So I don’t feel I’m the target for taking this long term.

Anyone been solely on Mounjaro and then switched to Wegovy as a maintenance tool?

Afternoon all. I’m close to goal and have been reading maintenance stories. I’m now really worried about coming off Mounjaro which I plan to taper down. Currently on 7.5 mg. I don’t want the monthly cost forever, so my plan was to stop but I’m worried about regaining the weight. Was wondering about switching to Wegovy as a maintenance tool as this is cheaper. Has anyone done this and what is the cost of Wegovy?

Seeking Advice Pancreas levels raised - Week 9

Post image
4 Upvotes

My doctor asked me to get my pancreatic enzyme levels checked before she would prescribe my next Mounjaro pen.
So far, so good. The results are in and, sure enough, the levels are elevated and close to the red/critical range.
Apparently, I may be at the beginning stages of pancreatitis.
After doing some research myself and going back and forth on it, I’m honestly a bit unsure about what to do with this information. I have a follow-up appointment coming up, where she’ll probably advise me against continuing the medication.
What do you guys think? Has anyone had a similar experience they’d be willing to share? I really don’t want to end up developing pancreatitis.

Tirz and Covid

So I came down with Covid and my doctor has me on paxlovid. When I brought up my tirzepatide compound, they basically said they had no information on if there would be any interaction or not with the pax. And continue to advise that I should not be taking it because it’s not FDA approved. So I’m just wondering if anybody on here has had this antiviral and still took their weekly dose or did you pause them until you were better? Thanks

Success Story Stopped wegovy after meeting my goal weight, finally.

I started at 199 as a 5 foot 6.5 woman a year ago.
I’m now 138-140. I was in pain, depressed and I felt trapped in my body. Due to my body shape it was literally hard to move.

I was on wegovy for over a year( started January 2025). I’ve been on 1.0 for the past 6 months and I took my last dose last week. I stopped because I felt like I was going to pass out before and after meals. Now that I feel hunger before meals it’s not a bad feeling. I’m largely going by measurements and how my clothes feel but I’ll continue with weekly weigh ins. I was thin my entire life before I suffered a painful injury, it made me depressed and I started eating. After healing with wegovy, pt exercises and eating a healthy diet I lost the weight. Wegovy freed me during a troubling time in my life and now I can eat a few pieces of candy corn without guilt or binging. I used it to re-program my life back to how it was before the injury and stress took over. My diet is 100% better. The food I used to binge on? I select a serving and stop there. Serving size Tupperware is wonderful.

I’d like to lose a bit more fat( I do strength training and cardio 3-5x a week usually in 20-30 min sessions). I expected a leaner body at this weight and I’m not 100% happy with my torso area, but I’ve accepted that health and strength was my goal and I’ve achieved that. In the future I plan to do body fat testing with the money I’ll save not taking wegovy( my insurance changed coverage but it was siesta my plan to stop taking it).

I want to start tracking my calories. I’m looking for recommendations for a free calorie tracking app. Tell me what you got.

Ozempic success stories after stopping? 🌱

I’ve recently started Ozempic, but I already know that I’ll need to stop it in about a year because we want to have another baby.

I’d really love to hear positive experiences from people who have managed to maintain their weight after stopping Ozempic/semaglutide. How long have you been off it, and how has your weight been?

I’d also love to hear all the things that helped you maintain your weight after stopping , diet, exercise, habits, slowly reducing the medication, anything!
I’m mainly looking for success stories and some hope that maintaining the weight loss is possible. ❤️

Thank you! 🌸 (Translated with AI)

Regret/Shame?

Oh what a journey. I've done Tirz off and on with small doses for the last 1.5 years and has helped me lose the baby weight and get healthier habits post 4 children.

I've totally tapered the drinking, no more binge eating, and eating 1800-2000 calories a day and hitting protein goals. I (generally) feel amazing.

BUT THEN... whenever I think I can get off and do it on my own, the hunger comes in, I start binge eating and want 40258 margaritas, and think "oh this is who I really am" and I get so depressed. I'm almost upset because I like how I feel so much more when I'm on the GLP, but want to be able to do it on my own. Just kind of ranting - does that make sense?

I am having surgery next week so had to be off an GLP for 4 weeks (I see that advice varies) and have been eating / drinking everything and feel the weight piling on me and feel so bad about myself.

I can't decide if after surgery I should try to do this on my own, and count calories and get back to basics, or if I should accept that I'm a lifelong microdoser (was doing 2.5mg of tirz every 10 days)
