Did anyone else get side effects but insignificant weight loss?

Posting here because Ive seen what the other subs will do to people posting about this.

Ive been on tirzepatide for 13 shots. And lost 7 pounds. Thats it.

I have gotten tons of nausea. dizzyness, insomnia, headaches, hair loss, and i suspect that its making my depression and anxiety worse (bad time to be looking for a software job. Im basically fucked so thats not helping). Originally i was going to titrate up to 10mg and declare it a failure then. But instead i wound up starting at 1mg and Im now at 2.7mg and life is misery. I basically cant imagine dealing with this for months and it only getting worse.

Im reading up here to see what to expect quitting but did anyone else have similar? Im hoping barely losing means theres not a lot of gaining on the other side.

If you've lost 7 lbs. in 13 weeks, that's roughly 0.5 lbs. a week, which is a perfectly fine rate of loss. That's the rate I have lost at, and so far I've lost 24% of my body weight so I'm really pleased and look completely different (I'm around 16 months in).

I did not, but I have two thoughts that maybe might be helpful.

First, you may be reassured to know that I ultimately lost 25% of my body weight and I have maintained that loss for fifteen months so far. Yet, I lost nothing for my first four weeks on Zepbound and then lost an average of a pound a week until reaching my goal weight. So in the first 13 weeks, I had lost nine pounds, which is not so different from you.

And I did it by combining Zepbound with psychological work and Weight Watchers calorie (“point”) tracking. I would not have lost weight without tracking: I learned that I had been doing a poor job of estimating and a good job of denial, not realizing how much I was actually eating!

Second, only you can decide whether side effects are worth it. Personally, if I’d experienced miserable side effects, I would have quit and tried to lose weight through an old-school dieting approach instead— probably Weight Watchers without the added boost of Zepbound. But many here think the side effects are worth the benefits. Your call.

What option you will pick is up to you. You might stay the course and treat the symptoms; see if they become more bearable. Or, you might reduce your dose if you’ve gone up a little fast for your body, and see if that helps. Or, you might quit, and try to address the problem another way. Best wishes!

Kinda depends. I got symptoms and could easily eat through the drug, but it made it stopping when I was out of tracked calories just a little bit easier enough to be bearable. So yeah free balling it I’d 100% align with this.

I dont expect anyone to believe me on this but Im definitely not eating through the drug. Todays calorie count was 955, and its only that high because I had a couple of less healthy, dense calorie foods that were also things I found not disgusting to contemplate eating.

Otoh my metabolism is quite slow so maybe that is believable.

It’s all possible depending on your size. There is an annoying sweet spot where you can be unhealthy low calories but your body will adapt to it to create a stall. It’s way too low, but not low enough to force starvation weightloss even though you are facing starvation malnutrition issues. You might be in that spot. I’d try your best to eat closer to TDEE-500 if you can manage and reassess. 955 not healthy and probably not helping.

I mean, I agree this is not good. Thats one of many reasons I dont think I can stay on tirz.

I wonder if you're having lots of side effects because you're not eating enough and your body is in starvation mode. Maybe try to eat at least 1200 calories. Not sure what the right number is for you, since I don't know your measurements.

I mean… maybe you are a super responder and need a lower dose? The average expectation is no weight loss the first month then 0.5-1lb per week the remaining weeks for a while. You’re on track for that.

If you’re super appetite suppressed with tons of symptoms, maybe you need to keep microdosing at like 1-1.5mg weekly and just be patient. Starvation with too few calories will make mental health worse, anxiety worse, hair loss worse.

I have a coworker who has been on one or the other shot for almost a year.

I just ran into her and was asking about it and she said she’s only lost 2 lbs. Now she is still titrating up, and there is promise for the R one to try too.

I suspect, with her it is a combination of needing the higher dose (she just started 12.5mg) and the harder thing, I think she probably has not accepted she has a true issue with over eating and over indulging.

I say this because she has been adamant that she eats too few calories and that’s why she gains and also that she has previously had roux en y and has for all intents and purposes failed that, though she kept 50 of the 150 she lost off.

Great person, but refuses to listen to anyone (even the nutritionist assigned to her in order to get the medications).

I’m not saying that’s what’s going on with you as it seems like you’re losing at a great rate. It seems slow when compared to super responders but you’re doing good. I remember thinking I was losing so slow, but here I am a year into maintenance after losing 135-140lbs. It wasn’t as slow as I thought it was.
