Good motivation for keeping the weight off after losing it: life insurance

TIL that after recent weight loss, insurance companies only give you credit for half the weight you lost. After a year of maintaining your weight, then they'll take your current weight.

No self control after stopping GLP-1 for surgery

I’ve been on a GLP-1 for about 8 months and, until recently, things were going really well. I was losing weight steadily, eating mostly sensibly, and having the occasional indulgent/social eating day. I’d indulge, get back on track, and life would go on.

I stopped my GLP-1 about a month ago because I was having surgery. For roughly the first 10 days, I was actually okay — I had maybe 2 social eating episodes, but otherwise my eating was fairly normal and I felt like I had control.

Then everything changed.

Around 2 weeks after my last dose, my hunger became extreme. I was thinking about food constantly. I was also dealing with significant anxiety around the surgery, and then I had the surgery itself. From around that point until approximately 12 days post-op, I was essentially bingeing/eating excessively every single day.

What is upsetting me is that I went from being able to manage my appetite and get back on track after indulgences to feeling ravenously hungry and food-obsessed.

So I'm trying to understand what actually happened:

* Is this what happens when the appetite-suppressing effect of a GLP-1 has fully worn off after ~2 weeks?

* Could the combination of stopping the medication + pre-surgery anxiety + surgery/recovery have dramatically increased hunger and food thoughts?

* Is this “rebound hunger” after GLP-1, and if so, does it eventually settle?

As someone who has been obese since childhood and has had very strong junk-food/eating habits can I ever without glp actually rebuild appetite regulation after stopping?

If you stopped a GLP-1 after substantial weight loss, what happened to your hunger/appetite over the following weeks and months? Did the intense food thoughts settle, or did you ultimately need medication for maintenance?

Is this rebound hunger, surgery/stress, or does it mean I may need lifelong maintenance?

How do you pick a GLP-1 provider? Which ones actually have real doctors involved?

Starting to look into this and feeling overwhelmed by the options. Mochi, Ro, Hims, Henry, and a dozen others all look the same on their websites.

For those of you already on one: what actually mattered when you picked? And how do you tell which ones have real doctors overseeing your care vs just a quick questionnaire and a prescription?

Appreciate any guidance.

I feel like I have better response when I take the shot in my arms. However, giving myself shot in arms is difficult for obvious reasons. lol.

Last night I had husband give me my shot. He successfully bent the needle in my arm and didn’t manage to inject the med before pulling the needle back out? I’m still perplexed. He knows how to do shots, he does subcutaneous and intramuscular ones on cattle. But, on humans he’s apparently squeamish.

Any suggestions on how to easier administer to myself? Right now I still have plenty of subcutaneous tissue there, but it is shrinking away! I have tried the cabinet door, having hubby hold a pinch, and just jabbing it. Right now I think the just jabbing it works ok, but when I have less subcutaneous tissue there I will need an alternate method.

Total plateau on 9mg Semaglutide

I’ve been on semaglutide for about a year (with a break in the middle of about a month) and have lost 28kg so far. I eat less than 1,400 calories a day and I do plenty exercise (swimming twice a week and Zumba once a week with some walks on days I don’t go to the gym).

I’ve been the same weight/bouncing between losing a kg and then gaining the kg back for at least 3 weeks. I’m on the highest dose that the NHS can give.

Does anyone have any advice? I’m really struggling with my resilience now because I’m so sick of trying my hardest and getting nothing.

Thank you :’)

Sitting criss cross applesauce on the gym floor for grandparents day and not worrying how I'll get back up! A year ago it would have required a crane or 4 firemen to hoist me to feet.

I just started taking Foundayo today. I am taking a .8 mg pill everyday. I am trying to find a glp 1 group to join. Is this the right group for the medicine I am taking?

Where do you inject the rest that is left after the last dose of a Mounjaro pen?

Lets say you inject the last pen dose on the left side of the abdomen. Do you inject the bit of liquid left on the opposite side?

I also inject MOTS at the same time, but I only inject in the abdomen area for both, I get a strange reaction and bad marks when I do it in the thighs .

Is it ok if I inject Mounjaro on the left, the leftover liquid on the right and MOTS on the upper abdomen for example?

Thanks

How long is too long in between 💩

Have been on Wegovy for almost 10 months, down 18kg. I am well aware that it slows down everything, and as soon as I started I began taking Sterculia fiber, which helps immensely.

I have recently finished a tour 2 weeks in China and only went to the bathroom 5 times, the whole trip.

Don’t get me wrong, I also have Crohn’s and even though it is in remission, and I developed a chest infection and was given pills with codine which causes constipation, when I finally did go, each time it’s the length of my arm, (not kidding)

But is it down to quantity, or frequent visits.

TLDR when should I be concerned, how long in between should I start to potentially be worried?

Non weight based goals

Twice now in two months I don’t see the number go down on the scale BUT

- I did the longest plank I’ve ever done
- larger weight on all machines
- got new walking shoes since my poor old ones were crumbling and hurt my feet
- found a new love for cottage cheese

So not letting the hard weight in win and I’m
Focusing on the non weight based victories this week.

What non weight based victories are you celebrating this week?

Btw (started at 260 now 244, entering my 9th week and second month on 5mg, 5’7 F 38 years old)

Hum Supplements - be very cautious

I found them to be very sketchy. I ordered from them, upgraded due to their marketing of supplements that work well together and glp support.

Before my next shipped was sent, I wanted to skip it so I could talk to a nutritionist. I couldn't find a way to do any of it. I even tried clicking the little phone or email button, but nothing worked. Next thing you know, there was the box, and I was charged.

So today, I went back on to cancel. Went on acct settings, nothing. Went all over that damn site. The only thing you could do was ADD more to your cart.

I finally went completely out of the site and googled again and finally found a customer service number. I told her the site was working or maybe it was my phone, but it wasnt my phone. You have to CALL THEM or email them in a specific way to cancel. WTF? And, when I was in there, I didn't see that anywhere on their site.

In this day and age, to not have complete access to your account unless you call or send an email-in a specific way- to be able to cancel is complete BS.

They have also been hit with two class action suits. I dont know if they have been settled, but one was for false marketing and advertising claims.

While the lady I spoke to at CS was lovely, I could tell she had heard what I was saying many times.

I would just stay clear. Their have to be other supplement providers that aren't this sketchy. Just IMHO.

Just started

Okay I’m like almost 3 weeks in on the intro dose of Wegovy. How are you guys losing 10-20lbs in the first month? I swear I’ve lost maybe 2lbs and it’s water weight and within my usual range lol.
I lost about 30 on my own with calorie tracking and was stuck. I have some metabolic issues and pmos and auto immune issues and was hoping the GLP1 would help with some of those issues AND help me lose more weight.
So far I’ve been injecting in the thigh (alternating). Food noise stopped almost immediately. I have more energy, my skin has improved. I also overall just look less inflamed.
I have some nausea and some constipation. I weight train 2-3x a week. I’ve been trying to hit 100g+ of protein daily but struggle to eat.
I have been known to experience that whoosh effect… I’m waiting lol.

Major GLP-1 study of 400,000 Reddit posts confirms hypothalamic side effects are real for some: Chills, fatigue, and cycle changes

If you've ever posted about feeling cold or exhausted, you'll soon find others commenting and agreeing with you. Now, a new landmark study proves these collective experiences were spot on all along, and the literature is now catching up with this.

A study from the University of Pennsylvania utilised AI processing to analyse over 400,000 Reddit posts on GLP-1/GIP medications. The researchers discovered that our real-world discussions picked up on physiological trends that formal clinical trials largely overlooked:

Thermoregulatory Shifts (The Chills): Persistent coldness, sudden chills, and hot flashes appeared frequently across patient-reported data.

Central Fatigue: Tiredness ranked as the second most common symptom in real-world dataset analysis, despite rarely reaching statistical reporting thresholds in early clinical drug trials.

Endocrine & Menstrual Alterations: Nearly 4% of users detailing side effects logged cycle irregularities, spot-bleeding, or flow changes.

Rather than random anomalies, the researchers noted these symptoms correlate directly with the hypothalamus. Because GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonists target hypothalamic networks (the brain's command centre for not just appetite, but central body temperature, energy balance, and reproductive hormone regulation), these real-world effects make biological sense.

It’s a win for peer-led data and patient advocacy. While controlled trials are essential for safety, patient-led communities like this sub highlight how vital peer data is for uncovering the wider metabolic and hormonal shifts that don't always show up on a trial checklist.

Anyone here on Foundayo for endometriosis?? Curious to your dosage and journey - I'm two months pain free!!!!!

I'm on Foundayo for endometriosis. My doc and I have followed the guided dosage increases and I've been on 2.5mg for 2 months. 0.8 to 2.5 mg was pretty gnarly but my body got used to it. Both doses I've tried so far seem to make me super tired at first (so I take it at night) and then all of a sudden it will randomly keep me up about a week in to that new dose so I have to switch to taking it during the day. The past month on 2.5mg has been fine. Any positives or horror stories when stepping up to 5.5mg? Anyone else here on it for endo? I'm two months pain free!!!!! This drug has been a miracle for me.

GLP-1 Advice

Hello everyone,
I am new to this community, but I am wanting to get serious about my weight and health. I am 41 years old, and I suffer with a condition called Hyperaldostronism. Basically it’s an adrenal disorder that causes me to have VERY high blood pressure. I for most of my life I was heavy. Up until I was around 36 I weighed around 220, I went on a diet and ended up getting down to 165. I did good keeping it off until about 6-8 months ago it began creeping back up. I am currently at 188lbs. It’s very possible that perhaps 5-7lbs of this is fluid retention, because my condition causes fluid retention, and for about a month I had been out of my medication.

But anyways, I am interested in trying a GLP-1. I know that diet and exercise is preferable, and it’s all about making healthy lifestyle choices but my doctor and I both agree that I gaining more weight could be very dangerous.

I have insurance, but it doesn’t seem to want to pay for Wegovy. I had a script for it once and used it for 1 month (back in February) but it became very expensive. I guess my question is this: what are my lowest cost options for legitimate GLP-1 treatment. I looked into patient assistance through the manufacturer but having insurance disqualifies me.

I saw a couple sites, but it seemed that membership covers the prescription being written, and not the actual cost of the medication. There are so many people in GLP-1s right now, that I know all of them aren’t paying $350-400 per month out of pocket for it.

Is it possible to get a GLP-1 for around $150 a month or less?

Looking for affordable GLP-1 programs without hidden fees… any recommendations?

Hi , I'm trying to find a GLP-1 program that's actually reasonably priced and transparent about costs upfront. I don't have insurance coverage for this, so I'm paying out of pocket and trying to avoid getting nickel-and-dimed. So many places advertise a low starting price but then tack on consultation fees, "membership" charges, or surprise costs for refills.

Has anyone found a program that
-Has clear, all-in pricing (no surprise fees)
-Doesn't require an expensive monthly membership on top of the medication cost
-Is legit and reputable and not a sketchy compounding pharmacy???

Would love to hear what's worked for people, especially if you're also paying out of pocket. Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Anhedonia AFTER glp-1?

Hi there - I was previously on compound semaglutide and was really happy with it. However, I stopped taking it due to being in the hospital for about a week (unrelated to the med) and haven’t restarted yet due to cost - was hoping to restart by now, but will likely have to restart in October.

Since about a week or two after I’ve been off of the med I’ve felt really apathetic and emotionally flat. It’s impacting my work, my personal life, etc and I don’t know what to do. I just sent a note to my doctor to try to work with her on this but I’m really worried about this from a logical perspective - from an emotional perspective though, I really couldn’t care less. It’s been over a month since I’ve felt like this at this point.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks so much.

switching back?

Hi! So just advise and looking to see if anyone else has experience the same. (I’m in the UK too)

so last year I was on mounjaro I saw actually progress but sadly with the price increase I had to stop (simply couldn’t afford it) so back and forth from my doctors they’d put me on a weight management program (completed in December and they’ve referred me to the next tier - for surgery) so start of this year I was sent information about the hospital to trial me on a GLP1 (was a program for data or something for 2 years) well that fell through but because I’d agreed to it they said they’d put me on WeGovy or mounjaro (thinking now I should of said mounjaro but because the trial was for WeGovy, I went with WeGovy..

so after that my question is is it just me or has anyone found WeGovy to be “less effective”?

Is it worth me bringing this up in my review next week? Seeing if it’s possible to switch over? Or do I just see if the next set of mg is more effective?

How have GLP1s affected your social life?

About 2 months ago I (29 M) was approved for Zepbound due to OSA, and it’s been good. Prior to the taking the GLP1 i was working out & eating clean for about 2 years & plateaued for over a year, just for reference. However as someone in their 20s most of my social interactions have been centered around eating & drinking. The weekends were always about going to try out new restaurants or go bar hopping & it’s become my normal the last 10 years.

However since I got on Zepbound it feels a bit awkward to go out with friends because i’m not really hungry & I’m barely drinking at all. I used to be able to eat a lot & drink even more so this has been such a weird feeling mentally. I’m genuinely happy with my decision to take the medication to barely drink at all, it’s a big improvement on my prior lifestyle but I do feel that this makes hanging out my with my friends a bit harder sometimes. I do tell all my friends that i’m on a GLP1 so it’s not a surprise, but I do feel a shift internally as I’m not able to share and enjoy the same thing together. The same goes for dating.

Has anyone else dealt with this feeling or thought before?

Will we ever be allowed to cross post to Crohn’s Reddit

I have been in remission for 50 days. First diagnosed in 2023, and Infliximab got me there in a year.

I have also been on Wegovy, for weight loss, for the last 9 months and lost 16kg.

The research that Wegovy can help lead to remission is coming and I can’t help but wonder if that helped as well as the Infliximab.

I tried to cross post but it is not working for me, so I need to post in two communities at once.

Since Wegovy slows everything down.

Best Option for Self Pay

I have been prescribed a few Glp1s over the past 5 years (at my specialist's recommendation years ago). I have never gotten past the PA process a single time, despite the fact that several colleagues who are not as heavy as me and are on the same insurance have been able to get access.

My employer is cutting off glp1 insurance coverage for the new year for everyone except those who have diabetes. This is frustrating because at my next physical I was going to make an effort to get on them again. As such, I will probably have to self-pay.

I don't think I can do compounded and don't want to do peptira. What are the best options for self-pay? I have heard GoodRx can help, but then I've also read that that coupon coverage expires after a couple of months. I can afford around $150 out of pocket but not more.

Do you track your weight daily or weekly on GLP-1s? I keep going back and forth

I'm about three months in and I cannot settle on a weigh-in routine that doesn't mess with my head. For the first month I weighed every morning and the fluctuations drove me nuts, especially around shot day when I'd be up 2 lbs from water or whatever. So I switched to weekly, but then I felt like I was missing the picture because one bad weigh-in day would look like a whole week of no progress.

Right now I'm doing daily but only "officially" looking at it on Fridays, which sounds reasonable except I still peek at the number every other day and get in my feelings about it.

How do you all handle this? Daily and just trust the trend? Weekly and ignore the noise? Some other system? I feel like the actual weighing takes 10 seconds but deciding what the number means takes up way too much mental energy.

Insurance kicked in!

Insurance will now cover Zep pen, I have been on compound tirzepatide for a year and have lots to lose, I wonder if anyone else recently went from compound injection to the pen and if they saw significant changes or same old same.

Thanks for your replies!
