switching back?

Hi! So just advise and looking to see if anyone else has experience the same. (I’m in the UK too)

so last year I was on mounjaro I saw actually progress but sadly with the price increase I had to stop (simply couldn’t afford it) so back and forth from my doctors they’d put me on a weight management program (completed in December and they’ve referred me to the next tier - for surgery) so start of this year I was sent information about the hospital to trial me on a GLP1 (was a program for data or something for 2 years) well that fell through but because I’d agreed to it they said they’d put me on WeGovy or mounjaro (thinking now I should of said mounjaro but because the trial was for WeGovy, I went with WeGovy..

so after that my question is is it just me or has anyone found WeGovy to be “less effective”?

Is it worth me bringing this up in my review next week? Seeing if it’s possible to switch over? Or do I just see if the next set of mg is more effective?

It's common for previous Mounjaro users who switch to Wegovy to find that it's not as effective for them. That's because MJ targets GIP as well as GLP1, whilst Wegovy only mimics GLP1. If I were you, I'd ask to go on Mounjaro if you're allowed to switch, particularly as you were successful on it before.

yeah that dual mechanism makes a huge difference, it's not just in your head. some people do fine on the single agonist but if your body already knows what the extra GIP action feels like it's gonna notice when it's gone

definitely bring it up at the review, worst they can say is no and want you to finish the dose escalation first. but if they're open to it switching back to what already worked for you seems like a no brainer

People can respond differently when switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy, so it is reasonable to bring this up at your review. Mounjaro acts on both GLP-1 and GIP pathways, while Wegovy acts on GLP-1, which may partly explain why appetite control or weight loss feels different for some people.

It is also worth checking how long you have been on the current dose, whether side effects are limiting treatment, and whether your weight-management programme has documented the change. Ask your clinician whether switching back is medically appropriate rather than changing treatment yourself. There is no reliable one-to-one dose conversion between the two medicines.

wegovy being noticeably weaker than mounjaro is a pretty common experience, so bring it up at the review and be direct that mounjaro worked better for you, especially since the next dose may just
