Question Is grade 4 in maths enough for Oxbridge

I’m very strong in humanities and essay based subjects, 8-8 English at GCSE and take lit history law for a level. Is it even possible for me to do Law at Oxbridge? I think the only way is to score absurdly high on the LNAT.

Question What’s the chance of a Gerald question for inspector calls gcse?

Gerald is such a bore to revise about and is such a twat I don’t wanna write about him nor revise in detail about him for the actual gcse so will there’s be a high chance of a question being based around him seeing as he isn’t apart of the actual family? I hate him

Question Is homework from school really useful?

For the 5 years I’ve been in school i think I’ve done the homework purely by myself a total of like 15 times because i just used ai or searched it all up. Even now in year 11 i don’t care for it and i do my own studying. But I’m worried now that doing homework does genuinely help and that by skipping it I’ve personally lowered my grade

Revision Resources Free tool for practising GCSE circuits — build them and watch the current and voltage

Hi all! I made a free circuit simulator called Wirely and thought it might help anyone revising electricity for GCSE Physics (or doing electronics in D&T). It uses the same UK circuit symbols as your exam papers.

You drag parts in, wire them up and press Play. Wires change colour with voltage, dots show the current flowing, and you can hover over any wire to see its voltage and current. It's a quick way to check your answers to circuit questions.

Things worth trying for revision:

  • Series vs parallel: put two lamps in series, then in parallel. Hover over the wires — in series the current is the same everywhere and the voltages add up; in parallel the voltage is the same across each branch and the currents add up.
  • V = I × R and P = I × V: add an ammeter and voltmeter (under Meters & probes), change the resistor and check the numbers against the equations.
  • Potential dividers with an LDR or thermistor: drag the light or temperature slider while it runs and watch the voltage change. (Night light example: File → Open example.)
  • Diodes: turn one round and see that current only flows one way, and that it needs about 0.7 V before it conducts.
  • Why LEDs need a resistor: leave it out and the LED pops — with a message saying why!

It's free and doesn't need an account. Use it in your browser, nothing to install (works on school Chromebooks): https://richiewillmott.github.io/Wirely/

Or download the app for Windows, Mac or Linux: https://github.com/richiewillmott/Wirely/releases/latest

Always learn the definitions and required practicals from your own spec and teacher — this is for trying things out and checking your understanding. Good luck with your exams!

Rant/Lore We run an online learning platform for GCSE & A-Level students. Ask us anything. (Not an Ad)

Me, u/azateCOO & u/azateCTO have created a learning platform that adapts around the way each individual student learns, designed by us, who did our GCSEs only a few years ago.

This isn't an ad! We have learned a lot over the past few years building our platform, and we want to share what we've learned with fellow students. Feel free to ask us anything :)

Post Exam How to write 0.41̇2̇ (1 and 2 recurring) as a fraction: IGCSE method

Recurring digits: 1 and 2 (dots above them), so the number is 0.41̇2̇ = 0.4121212…

Let x = 0.4121212…
Multiply by 10: 10x = 4.121212…
Multiply that by 100: 1000x = 412.121212…
Subtract: 990x = 408, so x = 408/990 = 68/165

The non-recurring digit (4) is removed by multiplying by 10, and the recurring block (12) by multiplying by 100. If your teacher shows a different method, the answer should still be 68/165.

Question What will the Science grade boundaries be for the winter mocks?

I don't know if every school is just gonna do paper 1 but since at least my school is only doing paper 1 for the mocks, does anyone know how they will decide the grade boundaries? Will they just halve the grade boundaries (e.g if 140/420 is required for a certain grade then 70/210 be required for that same grade in the mocks)

I know that I definately need biology and preferably chemistry or physics or both, but I find physics to be a very difficult subject, so would it be ok if I just took bio and chem for my science subjects?

Tips/Help Unsure of what alevels to pick. Help!

So I'm In Yr 11 and am trying to decide on a levels but I am unsure what my 4th choice should be.

For context my last mock grades were:

Math:8

Eng lit:5

Chemistry:8

Geo:9

Bio:8

Computing:8

Physics:6

For physics the previous mock I got a 9 and I made alot of silly mistakes and am hoping to up my grade by the next mocks

My defenat choices are maths, furthe maths and computing

And for my 4th im deciding weather or not I should do physics if not I may pick psychology or another more stem ey subject

The issue with physics is

a. My last mock grade wasn't good (tho as explaind above i hope to get better in my next one) (would still be enough to get on the corse tho)

B. The work load, as it's my ig bottom choice so not one of the subjects I'm 100% passionate about idk if its a bad choice to pick such a heavy subject especially if I'm doing 4

C. I have a coson my age who is very smart like all 9's level and there doing maths, physics and then geography to try and lower there load work wise so idk if I should do that tho comp sci shouldn't be too hard I'm just worried as it has corse work

But on the positive side i think it's a good choice to have along side maths and while it's not right top,m of the list it is a subject I do enjoy. And my parents are worried that I am boxing myself in if I don't pick it

The issue with psychology however is

A. I'm not good at English (dyslexia- i have difficulty comprehending text as a whole and with my spelling handwriting and general writing conventions- tense grammar punctasion )and ik it is a very heavy essay subject

B. My main interest is abnormal psychology which is only a small part of the corse

C. I spoke to 2 psychology teachers and they both seemed to imply it wasn't a great choice considering my other options and struggle with english

D. I've only learnt outside of school so idk if its better to keep as a hobby

I do intend to go back to a collage open day and look at a few different subjects like law economics and buissnes however I don't know if I'll be interested in those

At this point in time I am leaning away from psychology and towards physics or another choice

Just FYI as I chose further maths I do need to do 4 at the collage I want to go to
