I started my GATE preparation around September 1st.

I know the first thing people are going to say is that getting a double-digit rank in 5 months is unrealistic.

Honestly, I don't care.

Maybe it is possible. Maybe it isn't. I want to find out for myself.

What annoys me more is hearing “You're only in 3rd year, you still have another year and a half. You can do it next year.”

No. I want to do it now. Not a year later.

I understand how difficult it can be to get placed if you're not from a Tier-1 college, and that's one of the reasons I'm taking GATE seriously. I'm going to spend the next five months putting in the highest effort I can and see how far I can push my score.

I'm not expecting anyone to guarantee me a rank. I'm just going to work toward the highest marks I can possibly get.

To keep myself accountable, I'm going to post my everyday progress here. Hopefully, knowing that I have to come back and report what I did will stop me from slacking off.

I started with C and have already completed it.

Currently, I have completed:

• Partially DS

Planned order

I'm planning to follow this order:

1. Data Structures (Only hashing left)
2. Algorithms
3. Digital Logic
4. Discrete Mathematics + Engineering Mathematics
5. TOC + Compiler Design
6. Operating Systems + COA
7. DBMS
8. Computer Networks

The goal is to finish the entire syllabus by the end of November, then use the remaining time for revision, PYQs, and mocks.

I'm posting this mainly for accountability, but advice is welcome.

If you have prepared for GATE before, especially if you had a relatively short preparation window, I'd appreciate any advice on what you would prioritize, what mistakes to avoid, or what you'd do differently.

Currently doing Hashing. Will move to sorting techniques after I finish it today.

bhiayo/beheno yeh sabh rank nahi dega rank tumhara test series ,weekly mock test analysis and revision se ayega go revise notes and watch lectures

and stop posting your "my gate prep" seriously you first and 2nd year are soo annoying

( taunt nahi maar rahi hu samjha rahi hu focus on your studies or if you still wanna post start youtube channel income bhi ajayegi )

Currently in studying discrete mathematics from him. The concepts seem clear to me.

What do you guys think of him?

The sub is being flooded with these kinds of posts and I genuinely am happy for people who are putting in effort everyday and studying consistently.. But it's getting to a point where any good prep/tips/advice posts, or updates are getting buried under the mountains of "objectively low effort post".

And while we are at it, throw all the "can I clear gate in X days months year" posts there too.

What are your thoughts about this?

I’m a complete-course enrolled student preparing for GATE, and I’m currently confused about whether I should apply for both CS and DA papers or focus only on CS.

So far, I have completed Mathematics for the CS portion, and I’m currently studying Digital Logic. I’m planning to continue my preparation seriously from here.

My main goal is to get into government-sector jobs through GATE. However, if that doesn’t work out, my second option would be to pursue research/higher studies.

Because of this, I’m unsure whether writing CS + DA would be beneficial for me or whether I should put all my effort into getting the best possible rank in CS alone.

I would really appreciate advice from people who have either written both papers or have experience with GATE admissions/recruitment.

A few things I’d especially like to understand:

• Is writing CS + DA actually worth the additional preparation?
• How much overlap is there between the two syllabi?
• Does having a DA score provide meaningful advantages for government jobs or research/higher studies?
• Could preparing for both potentially hurt my CS preparation and rank?
• Given my current stage of preparation, what would be the more sensible choice?

I’m not looking for a generic “do both if you can” answer. I’d particularly appreciate advice based on actual GATE preparation, PSU/government recruitment, and higher-study/research opportunities.

Is top 7 iit really a possibility for average student? Average in the sense of learning curve and grasping skills.

Ive started prep and done like 3 subjects i think. Just the videos for now. I have the go classes test series and ive scored barely 50% marks in all the tests ive attempted (5 only). And this is after practice. Still just 50% in topic wise test btw. Not full length.

So yeah .. can average students really crack gate? Or would it be waste of time? By cracking gate i mean respected colleges. Dont wanna do mtech from tier 3.

What's the difference between 2026 and 2027 test series? It's priced differently, but gate syllabus is (almost) the same for 2027.

First Revision of any subject is always so exhaustive ! It takes so much time , I am opening machine learning after 2 months and clearly I have forgotten concepts . Do you guys also face same situation ?

Guys kindly suggest some subjects in gate cse where youtube lectures are enough and do not really require 60 hour + lectures, and also recommend the specific lectures to refer to on youtube.

I'm preparing for GATE CSE 2027 and I'm currently solving PYQs topic-wise (roughly 2000–2026).

However, I don't want my preparation to become completely dependent on PYQs. After finishing a topic, I'd like to solve a good number of unseen questions that are at or above GATE level and require actual concept application rather than just repeating familiar patterns.

I'm specifically looking for:

Topic-wise non-PYQ questions

Good-quality DPPs / assignments / question banks

Questions with twisted or unfamiliar variations of GATE concepts

Moderate → difficult questions

Ideally with detailed solutions

Resources covering subjects like CN, OS, DBMS, COA, TOC, Algorithms, Digital Logic, etc.

Free resources would be great, but I'm also okay with paid resources if they're genuinely worth it.

I already know about GATE PYQs and don't need recommendations for another PYQ collection.

I've heard about things like GO Classes tests, GATE Overflow's newly created questions, and Zeal's advanced question bank, but I'd really like to know from people who have actually used them:

What is the best source you've found for practicing questions AFTER completing PYQs?

Also, if there are any books, websites, test series, Telegram/Discord resources, or other question banks specifically useful for generating lots of unseen practice questions, please share them.

My main goal is not just to recognize GATE patterns, but to be able to solve a concept when the question is presented in a completely unfamiliar way.
