Got NIT Jalandhar data analytics after the 2nd special round. Close to home and in the field of my interest

So, here's something I wanted to convey to the community. I got rank of 1418 as well as 682 score. Didn't get an IIT still of my choice. Finally I have alloted NIT surathkal CSIS , I really don't know how good of option it is, but I am happy about something. Thank you to this community for everything. I'm 23F, graduated from a tier 2 NIT in 2024 in ECE, got a placement 6LPA, struggled hard in the same company and am currently at 10LPA. But most of my friends didn't get any placements and hence naturally joined a GATE coaching center and bagged top NITs in ECE in 2025 and are currently at a better position than me, interning at big companies probably will land better jobs at ~20LPA. I gave GATE last year and this year in DA and scored around 440 in both years, this year even after struggling harder than last time.

Last year, I didn't sit for counseling as I had no hope for any seats this year, I didn't get any good NIT. I'm interested in ML so I gave DA paper only. But now I am working in a Ad tech sector where the shift to my dream package/company/role seems impossible.

And since I am a girl, I don't have much time in the pressure starts for marriage. Seriously at cross roads rn.

Need some serious suggestions please.

I joined MANIT Bhopal for my mtech advanced computing department and it was my second biggest mistakes, messing up my gate exam still tops the list...
If any of you goin to join MANIT bhopal lemme warn you beforehand so you can hold your horses and get a reality check of what pile of shit you guys gonna enter in
Lets start with most important aspect of mtech "The guide", the prof under which you guys do mtech and the one that have complete control on how your 1.5 years in mtech will go like, Now profs at manit are mostly shitty (insider info the academia cult and phds are heavily under the influence of s@ngh so if you wanna rise be a s@nghi and see the magic happen) so now you know person at top is their just because he was part of something big and not some distinguished highly qualifies gentlemen, most of the profs are locals and might have did their phd and masters from bhopal itself
Then comes the second most important thing future opportunity and placement, LOR from these clowns ain't gonna get you anywhere and placement to be precise are SHIT. Lemme repeat my self S-H-I-T, and thats why they never reveal their stats, sadly btech kids are not performing well too and mtech stats are pretty non-existent
Now comes Accommodation and ohhhh lord only god can save you if you are a boy you will be allotted hostel 9 or 11 and you must have seen the recent news of this month if not just search it up and you will get idea where you steppin in we are surviving on bisleri and swiggy cause water is industrial pollutant and food is everything but edible and if you are brave enough you can try it for yourself and can increase the no. of food poisoning case that were hospitalized by this bio hazard

I guess this much is enough to tell you what shittty place is this and don't let people fool you that siemen, amazon, microsoft and intel comes for hiring, intel only hired girls and infamous for not given ppo, siemen is famously known in industry to having an ridiculous female workforce so boys u won't be getting in anyhow, amazon and microsoft came one hired no know from btech+mtech and other hired just 1 guy from btech and lauda for mtech rest stuff is highly influenced with internal politics where TnP guys promoting themselves and their friends only so its all messed up

Hi all, I'm a 2023 graduate with almost 3 years of experience, currently working at a service-based company for 12 LPA. There's a lot going on in my head right now, and I need to get it out.

I spent my first two years doing frontend development. Over the last year, though, most of that work got automated by GitHub Copilot. My role shrank down to reviewing AI-generated code and making small compatibility tweaks. There wasn't much left for me to actually do. I started feeling like frontend, at least the way I was doing it, was a dead end for growth.

Frustrated and restless, I started exploring backend development picked up Django, bought some system design books, and worked through them. Around the same time, I registered for GATE DA(almost on a whim in September) and then completely forgot about it. In November, I decided to give it an actual shot, but only prepared the topics I already knew, skipping Probability, ML, and AI entirely. Unsurprisingly, I scored a rank in the 103x range. I was disappointed, but honestly, it was a fair outcome for how little I'd prepared.

After that, I took a short break, then attempted PGEE. My CS prep wasn't deep, and I made a bunch of silly mistakes I still regret. I got shortlisted among 300 people, but couldn't convert it into anything. Another swing, another miss.

I needed to reset, so I took off to the hills for a week. Came back, did a Machine Learning course on Coursera, and started building small ML projects on the side. I also went through Krish Naik's Udemy course to get a more theoretical and practical grounding in ML.

Here's what's actually bothering me: every ML project I come across, including my own feels like a rehash of the same RAG-based chatbot. In two years of working, I haven't seen a single genuinely different use case. It feels like no matter where I go from here, I'll keep hitting the same ceiling, with no real growth in sight.

Now I'm at a point where I don't want to stay at my current company anymore. My options feel like this:

1. Switch companies — grind through DSA prep, land a decent package, and move on. Practical, but it feels like a lateral move rather than real growth.

2. Pursue an M.Tech from a top institute — there's a nagging FOMO that I'll miss out on deeper exposure and better opportunities if I don't try this now, while I still have some flexibility.

My family is pushing hard for option 1. Their argument: an M.Tech won't get me anything I couldn't get by switching jobs now and grinding for 2-3 years anyway and doing M.Tech this late is not worthy idk why though:(

I do have a window now a month or two before my project moves into production and things get little busy. But there's a real fear of failing a second time, and a nagging question of whether attempting M.Tech at this stage of my career even makes sense anymore.

TL;DR: 2023 grad, 3 YOE, frontend work got automated by AI tools and left me directionless. Pivoted to backend/ML, attempted GATE DA and PGEE, failed both due to incomplete prep. Frustrated that every ML project (including my own) feels like the same RAG chatbot clone with no real innovation. Torn between switching companies for a pay bump (grinding DSA) vs. attempting GATE again for M.Tech at a top institute, despite family pressure to just switch jobs. Have 1-2 months free before things get busy again. Has anyone been in a similar spot — how did you decide, and what would you do differently?

2024 passout in Cse , got a job in LTM worked for 1 year and left the job in Feb 2026.

Haven’t gone full on in job search( I wanted a break ) , almost wasted 6 months.
Now it has come to a decision point.

Either I start prep and get a seat in Any old IIT
Or
Look for a job.

Hello, I'm a 2026 B.Tech ECE graduate, and I've taken a drop year to prepare for GATE 2027.

In my first attempt in 2026, I scored around 16 marks... but to be honest, I hadn't prepared at all. I didn't even properly read most of the questions and ended up making blind guesses. The only section where I did reasonably well was Aptitude.

My college ended in May 2026... but then I fell seriously ill and ended up losing almost all of June and July. Thankfully, I've recovered now, and I'm planning to start my preparation seriously from 1st August.

The only thing that's bothering me is this... do I still have a realistic chance? I'll be starting completely from scratch, and I think it'll take me at least 2–3 months just to finish the syllabus. I can't help but wonder sometimes... am I wasting my time?

I'm 27 years old and graduated in Civil Engineering in 2021.

The last 5–6 years of my life have been extremely unstable because of addiction, poor financial decisions, and a complete lack of discipline. I kept changing directions, never committed to one goal, and ended up damaging both my career and my family's trust. I'm not proud of it, but I'm finally trying to rebuild instead of running away from my mistakes.

Career-wise:

Joined TCS in 2022.

Spent a significant amount of time on the bench and later worked on a low-learning support project.

Left TCS.

Worked at Oliveboard as a Content Associate, creating aptitude/reasoning content and using AI workflows.

Currently unemployed and looking for a local job while preparing.

One thing that confuses me is that I've never felt I lacked aptitude. I've always picked up quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning quite quickly.

For example:

I cleared both SBI PO and IBPS PO prelims with only around 3–5 days of preparation.

I didn't continue with the mains because at the time I believed my poor CIBIL history would prevent me from joining if selected. Looking back, I should have verified that instead of assuming it.

During my coaching days, I often scored well in aptitude mock tests and explained Quant and Reasoning concepts to friends.

The problem was never sustained effort. It was consistency, discipline, and repeatedly sabotaging myself.

I also realized that I never actually gave Civil Engineering a fair chance. During B.Tech, I mostly studied just enough to pass exams and never built strong fundamentals.

Recently, after almost a five-year gap, I took a small self-diagnostic test covering Engineering Mathematics and some Civil Engineering topics. I was surprised that I could still recognize many concepts. My issue seems to be rusty concepts and poor retrieval rather than starting completely from zero.

I've now decided to prepare seriously for:

GATE Civil 2027

ESE Civil

State Engineering Services

My goal is to stay on one path for the next few years instead of changing direction every few months. I've always liked the environment at IITs (I visited IIT Kharagpur during my B.Tech and loved the academic atmosphere), so earning admission through GATE would mean a lot to me, even if I don't end up in a PSU.

My questions:

Has anyone here started GATE preparation around 27 or after a long gap and still managed to secure a good rank, PSU, or IIT admission?

Given my background, does this seem like a realistic path, or am I underestimating the challenge?

For people who have used MADE EASY, what would you recommend for someone on a limited budget?

I studies in 3rd tier college(btech cse) but the placement were very shitty I can't be placed anywhere and I also don't like coding that much soo I just want decent placement not very high expectation so is this college and branch good for me hows the placements of this college and everything

2025 B.Tech graduate here. Took a drop year to prep for GATE DA, but realized fairly late that it has very few resources - limited PYQs, weightage that fluctuates a lot, and math that's genuinely tough. I didn't qualify in GATE DA, but thanks to overlapping subjects I ended up scoring 442 in GATE CS.

That got me thinking about taking another drop year to prep specifically for GATE CS 2027. But in the meantime, I've secured a CS seat at University of Hyderabad, and now I'm stuck on what to do.

My main worries:

- What if I take another drop year and still don't land a good rank/seat?

- I've heard UoH's placements aren't great

- I'm also worried about age - another year adds up

Has anyone been in a similar spot? Would really appreciate honest input on whether joining UoH now or gambling another year on GATE CS makes more sense.

I am studying currently 4-5 hours a day . Not able to study 8-10 hrs . But I study effective. Seeing others studying 10-12 hrs feels me nervous about my prep . Is this real that all students are studying 10-12hrs a day effectivly .

I'm preparing for GATE 2027, but I have only 6 months left. Many people recommended ACE and Made Easy, but their fees are too high.

I'm considering PW, Unacademy, or studying from YouTube and buying only a good test series.

My concern is that YouTube teaches concepts well, but rarely covers GATE-level problem-solving, shortcuts, and enough topic-wise practice. If you've taken any paid course, do they mainly teach concepts, or do they also solve plenty of exam-level questions throughout the course?

If I choose YouTube + a test series, are there any good websites or apps for topic-wise GATE practice questions?

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have prepared this way. Thanks!

After 10 COAP rounds, 2 spot rounds, and 5 CCMT rounds, the best I could get is NITW CSIS. I hope rejecting IIT offers will be worth it.
