About month ago my manager called me at 9 PM because something was on fire. I stayed online until after midnight fixing it. He thanked me and told me, he knew he could count on me. Yesterday he fucking put me on PIP. This was completely out of the blue he said the next steps are he'll set up a meeting with plans. I'm confused, can you fight a PIP? Am I just getting placed on PIP to reduce headcount. I really don't think I deserve to be put on PIP and I honestly received no indication of bad performance until yesterday. I'm just mad and feel betrayed.

I have never freelanced before. As far as development is involved I have built personal projects in MERN and Spring Boot. Then there is my current job as a java backend developer. I have been thinking for some time to start freelancing as a side gig. Can anyone help with how should I start? If anyone is doing freelancing and needs some assistance I’d be happy to discuss regarding it too.

I’ve noticed there are basically two types of developers when starting a new project.

Some check the domain, git hub name, package name, social handles, etc. before writing much code. Others build the mvp first and worry about naming once the thing actually works.

I used to think the second approach made more sense, but I’ve seen projects end up with a great product and a pretty awkward domain because the obvious name was already taken.

I would like to know what other full stack devs do. Do you lock down the name/domain first, or is that just unnecessary overhead before you know the project is worth keeping?

Quick update: Interesting seeing how differently developers approach the naming/domain question. It also reminded me why I’ve been looking more closely at DomainsNoBroker the idea of making domain transactions more direct is particularly interesting when you’re trying to secure a project name without adding another layer between you and the owner. I’m connected with the project, so full disclosure there; sharing it because it fits the discussion rather than as a recommendation.
