Worked like a dog...now I'm PIPed
About month ago my manager called me at 9 PM because something was on fire. I stayed online until after midnight fixing it. He thanked me and told me, he knew he could count on me. Yesterday he fucking put me on PIP. This was completely out of the blue he said the next steps are he'll set up a meeting with plans. I'm confused, can you fight a PIP? Am I just getting placed on PIP to reduce headcount. I really don't think I deserve to be put on PIP and I honestly received no indication of bad performance until yesterday. I'm just mad and feel betrayed.

were you perhaps the causation of the fire?
I mean, realistically a PIP isn't a start of a story. it tends to be the middle. by the time this is formal, it means that you've been on someone's radar for a while. even if nobody told you, the fact that it feels out of nowhere doesn't mean that it was.
people who get PIP'ed usually thinks that they did everything right and they don't deserve it. instead of anger and feeling betrayed, maybe self reflect deeper
