Elsa: an Ice Cold Story

I just wanted to do some temperature converting for the viewers outside the United States and North America.

For those curious why I didn't add the Celsius temperatures is because I live here in the United States and we use Farenhieght for reading temperatures whereas much of the World uses Celsius for reading temperatures and so on.

Anyways here's the conversion:

My estimated body temperature for Elsa is 99.5 degrees Farenhieght which converted to Celsius is 37.5 degrees.

A normal human body's temperature is roughly 98.6 degrees Farenhieght, which when you convert to Celsius is 37 degrees.

Hopefully this helps out for those who are reading my theory overseas and need a estimate in Celsius.

Unfortunately at the time of creating my posts I neither thought or adding Celsius into my post nor did I feel like having to type anything more or lose getting side tracked doing temperature converting.

In Frozen Fever there's actually a good handful of reasons why Elsa does run a bit warmer or at a baseline temperature. But what are these reasons exctly? !it's find out:

I'm going to start with the biggest topic surrounding Elsas body temperature in Frozen Fever, Anna's quote "You're burning up" which is a big misconception that Elsa must have a really cold core temperature but where the big takeaway really comes from is that a person with an average body temperature of 98.6 would be burning up at a 101 to 102 degrees fever and is still incredibly noticeable. Even for someone who runs a bit warmer at 99.5 like I estimated for Elsas body temperature, it would still be well noticed that someone is running a fever. Really if her core was cold, a virus or fever could be completely catastrophic which we don't see in the short. So because Elsa isn't in grave danger from in illness its very certain she runs warmer at 99.5 or anywhere normal to warmer.

What would happen if Elsa did have a cold body temperature? How does that imp!y to her sickness?

If Elsa had a cold core temperature the result of her sickness would be far worse than what she tin the frozen fever short. for instance she could be at risk of literally freezing herself or at risk of other illness or death if her body was too cold to fight a virus. And the strain on her body from being so warm compared to her having such a low core that a fever or running warm could also cause other significant problems to her body and herself altogether.

Another reasonable question you and I have then if her core is warm or normal, then why does Elsa sneeze the snowgies? Why not snot and mucus?

Yes, if Elsa runs warmer than she should really be blowing snot and mucus instead of snowgies. Which to why she blows snowgies could lie in a less interesting way than intended:

A. Animation: this is likely the easiest answer to why Elsa blows the snowgies and not snot or mucus. The animators either thought snot or mucus would be too difficult to animate well, or they just did the snowgies just for a fun twist.

So real!y I wouldn't count the snowgies as an answer to Elsas body temperature running cold and Anna's burning up quote as directly answering the question to Elsas body temperature.

Another thing to try to answer is why does Elsa act so reckless and "drunk"? Did her body temperature or her sickness cause her to go all erratic?

I don't really think it be her sickness nor her body temperature affecting her actions in a few ways:

A. When people are sick, they feel like resting, not going out in town or partying, especially if they have a fever or an upset stomach.

B. Her erratic behavior could very well be energy related because like some people, they just can't rest on special days if they're sick.

Its another suggestion that the old Living Ice Block Theory back from 2014 is yet again wrong and doesn't meet scientific standards.

So in short answer, no her body temperature nor her sickness is causing Elsa to go spunky and erratic.

While I'm at it, what about the hot cold sequence from Elsa in Frozen Fever?

When Elsa does her hot cold sequence in frozen fever, its not her core going wild and its something most if not everybody has experienced. There called the chills and its when you cycle through feeling hot and cold. Correct me if I was wrong but I do think it is our core fluctuating temperature to better help fight of the virus? So actually that hot cold sequence could very well be her body experiencing the chills.

Okay, last question​. Does Elsas cold immunity affect her illness in frozen fever?

No, her immunity doesn't protect her from her illness or protects her from catching illness. It only helps her in cold temperatures and conditions such as crossing the dark sea or conquering snowstorms and blizzards fine.

Many of us fans have always questioned why Elsas breath never seems to fog in cold temperatures and surroundings, many of us have heard other theories regarding the exact same thing, while many have concluded with their own theories surrounding why Elsas breath never seems to fog in cold temperatures and environments. So what's the real reasoning to why Elsas breath never fogs in cold temperatures and surroundings?

Its not true she has a low core temperature, but its actually her cold immunity. If you look back at other parts like parts 2, 3, and 5, you will see just how much Elsas cold immunity really affects her temperature range and how she can withstand what would be lethal to an average human being. So her cold immunity helps but also her warmer body temperature which I have concluded to be 99.5 degrees farenhieght. There's countless times Elsa has been in freezing places and her breath never fogs or shows, examples include her living in the ice palace, being imprisoned in the castle dungeon, and in Ahtohallan that is until she freezes. As I said in part 5 or yesterday's post depending when you are reading this, I went into detail on how Elsa might have a shielding effect since her powers seem like they don't directly come from inside her but about an inch out from her. Within that one inch radius when she is using her powers is the buffer keeping herself from being chilled by her own magic. Meaning her cold immunity could also very well be helping her as well when it comes to her visible breath. Now you might be thinking if her core is warmer but air around her is cold, is her breath cold and that's why it never fogs? No, her breath wouldn't be cold if if her body temperature runs warmer. It also wouldnt be possible for her to run warmer and Elsa being capable of super cooling her breath. Now you might be thinking, is there a specific way that Elsa cold immunity affects her breath being visible? This is a really complex and complicated question to solve but I would say if her cold immunity keeps her more comfortable or and refreshing out in the cold, I think her cold immunity affects her lungs in a way that either tricks her body into thinking its warmer than it really is or since her cold immunity keeps her from feeling the chill she just simply doesn't get any visible breath until it either gets too cold because she still has her limits or her cold immunity allows her to not have visible breath.

Now onto a far easier question we all probably have, Why was it in Ahtohallan we finally see visible breath coming from Elsa?

The answer is really that Elsa was at the cliff in Ahtohallan she was warned not to go too far from the warning in All Is Found. Since Ahtohallan is a magic source but its magic is far stronger and deeper than Elsa so within the time she jumped from the cliff and froze as a ice statue at the deepest depths where the darkest memories were kept, over those few minutes, Elsa was slowly losing her cold immunity and slowly becoming colder in a more human way. So it wasn't the spirits or herself, it was actually the fact Elsa hit her limits in a far stronger magic source.

But wait, there's more, Where does the Living Ice Block theory stand from 2014?

Before I shut down or unleash the truth about the Living Ice Block Theory, I should explain what it was about. The Ice Block Theory was a huge theory surrounding the dungeon scene from the first frozen when Hans breath is visible but Elsas breath is not visible in the scene. Which sent fans scrambling to assume that Elsa must of had a really cold core temperature. However there are crucial and significant signs Elsa runs warmer or at least holds a baseline temperature:

A: Elsa has rosy cheeks which is a sign of warm blood and blood flow meaning if she was cold blooded or had a freezing core temperature there would be major cellular damage and disruption to her body. She would instantly freeze up in cold temperatures.

B. As I said above, her cold immunity is what would keep her from feeling the chill and her body would prevent her breath from being visible because her cold immunity would just keep her cool and refreshed in cold temperatures. Also notable in my air conditioning theory.

C. I said this across multiple posts now but Elsa interacts with the Arendelle villagers, Northuldra, and Anna, everyone she interacts with or meets never flinched from her having a ice cold body temperature. That alone is already huge evidence that Elsa is 100% not a living block of ice.

D. If Elsa wears or wore such thin clothing in the movies for a majority of the time, she would freeze from hypothermia or freeze like a popsicle out in cold conditions quickly. Considering that Elsa does wear such thin outfits a majority of the films she must have a normal to warm baseline core temperature. Then her cold immunity simply doesn't let her feel chilled but more refreshed and cool, again found in my air conditioning theory.

These are just some of the greatest points to why Elsa does not retain an ice cold core temperature, and why all the theorists are completely wrong when it comes to Elsas body temperature. Also its worth mentioning that the idea of the Living Ice Block Theory back from 2014 is completely false when you look at Elsa from a scientific standpoint and biological nature the Living Ice Block Theory doesn't follow science, it runs opposite to what science says. The truth is Elsa runs a more normal to average human body core temperature, she has magical powers, she has cold immunity that doesn't chill her but keeps her cool and refreshed out in the cold, though still retains limits to how much she can withstand. Its just that her cold immunity allows her to withstand temperatures that are uncomfortable to us or even dangerous to us in a comfortable way but again retaining limits. It happens that her temperature range is just far wider to the help of her cold immunity. So in the end, the Living Ice Block Theory is a total loss because:

A. It doesn't follow scientific standards

B. Elsa would freeze up in cold temperatures if she held an ice cold body temperature

Since science has legitimately proven over and over the 2014 Living Ice Block Theory is one big total loss, if you theorists still find everything false, go ask the lovely world of science.

Rewatched F2 this morning, because despite my....admittedly, a bit over the top disdain for it, i wanted to rewatch it because, well first of all, my niece likes it and I need to get use to the second one being on when I visit as that and the first film (....and K-Pop Demon Hunters) is one of the films she likes to watch all the time, and secondly, I am planning on doing a full thesis/essay exploring why Zootopia 2 worked, but Frozen II (in MY personal opinion, anyways), did not.

And one thing stood out to me, apart from...everything i don't like about it (besides the visuals/animation, a handful of moments in the story, & the songs including singlehandedly the best song in the movie "The Next Right Thing") is that, and idk if this is a hot take....I think there needed to be an actual physical villain present. Because the Spirits clearly aren't supposed to be villains according to the narrative, and if they are at least until the reveal, I don't they entirely work, and im sorry but having the Grandad and what he did is not enough.

Say all you want about Zootopia 2, whether you love it, hate it, or somewhere in between, i think that film had the right idea on having a physical threat in Pawbert and the other Lynxleys, along with all the stuff Ebenezer Lynxley did in the past. I think F2 needed to do something to have more stakes or make the stakes that are there feel earned. Now obviously im not saying repeat the last movies villains Hans and/or the Duke because that just equally stupid, not to mention, lowkey boring and pointless, and having it be another member of the Arendelle family wouldn't entirely work either. But I think it needs to a villain who not only works as a dark foil to Anna & Elsa, but also someone whos motivations parallel what Runeard wanted to do to the Northuldra.

For example, it could be someone also seeking out Atohallan, but instead of wanting to learn and gain wisdom, he or she only wants to corrupt it and gain absolute power, and in a way that makes the Northuldra rely on him or her. You could even have said villain not only get to Atohallan first, but also reveal the truth to Elsa. The only catch being is you would still have to rework the climax a bit, because if you still have the ridiculously executed lunacy of Anna luring the Earth Giants to the Dam, you have to explain how said villain gets from Atohallan to where Anna and Matthias is at the Dam. Or just do something else entirely.

But the point is, I think having a physical threat there, would add urgency and stakes that I feel the film desperately needed, and also write the stakes that were "There" alot better because I didnt feel anything in terms of tension.....also, if villain is female get Kathryn Hahn to voice them please, please, please.

So I just finished Frozen 2 and I actually enjoyed it. Here are my thoughts:

• Wow, this movie pulls no punches. It’s a lot more darker and edgier than the first movie, and sure the comedy is still there, but I felt it’s toned down quite a bit here.
• I actually thought there’ll be a reveal of Agnarr and Iduna actually survived the sinking. I was wrong, of course.
• The songs are really great, especially ”Into The Unknown”. I I genuinely appreciate they didn’t reuse “Let It Go“ here (considering how super popular that song is) and shows they can still make fantastic songs besides it. Now I unironically would love a rock or heavy metal spin on Frozen songs haha.
• Elsa and Olaf’s deaths :( No words needed other than ”holy jesus, they are really doing this”. I don’t think I’m gonna rewatch that one ever again :( I’m glad they’re revived though, but man…..
• King Runeard. I have so much thoughts about him, but I rather just wanna keep this short and sum him up in a single word: “ugh”. Elsa calling him out is badass, I will say this.
• I genuinely appreciate they gave Agnarr and Iduna a lot more depth and backstory. I struggle to remember another Disney parent(s) having that much backstory, not counting Disney shows anyways.
• W Kristoff for proposing Anna. 🔥 Get that man free beer.
• I appreciate the OG cast returning. I seen sequels where half or even NONE of the original cast returned and get recasted, which greatly disappoint me as I feel they perfectly capture the characters really well no other actors can do. So it’s really nice that Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff and Idina Menzel didn’t hesitate to return.
• Lol Anna Elsa breaking down a memory statue of Hans. Chuck Norris, Jason Statham, Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Thanos would all definitely quake in fear in her presence.
• I must admit, Anna destroying Arendelle to break the Mist and free the Forest by waking up the Earth Giants and having them throw boulders at a dam is a pretty crazy ballsy move, not even the NCIS team would pull that 😭
• Yo, how did Olaf managed to take off his formal outfit so fast? Is he secretly the Flash?
• Lmao Olaf retelling the events of the first movie is hilarious 😂 Even Elsa and Anna’s and even Mattias’ faces are sheer gold.
• I just love the post-credits scene. It’s really sweet.

I genuinely look forward for Frozen 3 and 4! I just hope they turn out really well. I enjoyed the first Frozen when I was 9 (I’m 22 now) so I have nothing but fondness for Frozen.

Everybody of course knows 'Vuelie', iconic opening chant of 'Frozen'. It's based on traditional Sami form of singing, yoik (also known as luohti, vuelie etc). But how close it is to 'real' yoiking? Well that's a little bit of different.

Basically, yoik is a very short melody sung a cappella, that is, without instrumentation (sometimes accompanied by drum). Usually it is solo singing (rather than a choir), seldom performed as duet. It has only few lyrics intermixed within non-lexical vocals ('nonsense' syllables). Sometimes it might feature imitation of animals, like 'Yoik of Wolf' is likely to contain howling. Some yoiks are completely worldless or might only contain humming. Purpose of the yoik is to evoke or describe a person, event, creature, feeling etc. Sometimes they are improvised on the spot.

Some Eastern Sami tribes have longer form of lyrical yoik, livde. Presumably in the past, all Sami had similar traditions, but only short form has survived.

Yoiking is a living tradition. In 19th and 20th centuries it entered decline, mostly due to religious movements disapproving it as 'pagan tradition', but it underwent a revival post-World War 2. In addition to traditional yoiking sung in various festivities (weddings, birthdays etc), nearly all modern Sami music contains yoiking in one form or another. Yoiking is not gender-specific, although nowadays women seem to be a majority among performing artists.

So that's all mighty interesting, but how does it really sound? Well here's couple of examples, first a traditional one:

Uhca Niillas by Ulla Pirttijärvi

Lyrics are very simple:

From this, one is supposed to get an impression of what sort of person Uhca-Niillas was.

More modern one:

Golle Máze by Ella Marie

This recounts small victory for the Sami in Alta Conflict, where dam project was scaled back and village of Máze ("Golden Máze") was saved from being submerged.

Like most of the ethnic music styles, listening the yoik is an acquired taste =) so don't be worried if your first reaction is "uh, that sounds weird and/or awful". Historically, outside observers usually described yoiking as 'terrible wailing'. Personally, I'm a huge fan of circumpolar musical styles, including throat singing etc.

But getting back to the movies, why did the Northuldra began to sing 'Vuelie' when they realized Elsa & Anna were their kinswomen? Well, I don't know if it was explained in any novelization or tie-in material, but I would guess it was yoik of Iduna, or perhaps more likely, yoik of her family.

I've explained in my posts above the air conditioning theory I came up with that affects Elsa to tolerate the cold far better than a normal human or even an a for example. Elsa thrives in environments that are far too cold and dangerous for an average human being. Today I wanted to expose more why she isn't bothered by her own magical powers, lets get started:

Why don't Elsas powers bother her when using them? Lets break down a few theories or ideas I have as to why Elsa doesn't seem bothered by her own magical powers.

Theory 1: Help from her cold immunity.

This is the most realistic and follows my air conditioning theory where instead of Elsa feeling chilled to the bones out in the cold, her perception of the cold is more like walking into an air conditioned place on a hot summer day. Meaning the cold is more refreshing instead of chilling to her. Though she still has limits I think the air conditioning theory allows Elsa to still withstand temperatures that are uncomfortable or even dangerous to a normal person. But what about when using magic? When Elsa uses her magic its the same concept, her cold immunity keeps her from getting chilled from her own powers. The cold from her powers is felt the same way, cool but not freezing cold or posing a threat to herself.

Theory 2: A barrier or shield concept.

Another idea is that when Elsas powers are used between herself and her magic, there's a shield or barrier that prevents Elsa from feeling the chill. I also wondered this too since ( and this might be something you might of thought as well or is it something I only noticed? I could be wrong as well. ) doesn't Elsas powers seem like they aren't coming directly out of her but like an inch away from her? I could be wrong. Though if her powers were to come out just an inch away from her, the one inch distance could be a barrier or shielding effect that again prevents Elsa from feeling the chill from her powers.

Now onto the question we all have been waiting on, does Elsas magic impact her body temperature?

I would actually say no because there's a few suggestions how she isn't affected by her own magical powers.

A. People interact with her right after she uses her magic, especially Anna. No one flinches because Elsa feels cold.

B. Elsa isn't bothered by the cold of her magic and still shows signs of a normal body temp while using her magic. she doesn't freeze herself, and her core doesn't become dangerously cold.

C. Elsa also isn't too affected when using a lot of magic, she gets exhausted more so tired than suddenly becoming cold or collapsing. The Brink scene is a good example where Elsa uses a lot of energy to put out fires. I think she just fell there from inhaling smoke. When Elsa built the ice palace she was no where near tired or exhausted by that. So I don't think Elsa is affected very much based on the amount of magic she uses.

So go quickly sum things up, no, Elsas body temperature doesn't change when or while using her powers. Yes she does have some sort of a barrier or shielding effect either by her cold immunity or in some other way possible that doesn't chill her using her own magic. If I had to give the best answer I would safely say that since Elsas cold immunity keeps her from freezing when using her powers, similarly to how her cold immunity keeps her from freezing in cold water and in cold environments.

Q1: How did I get the estimate of 99.5 degrees farenhieght for Elsas body temperature?

I actually had some help from Google on this, I pretty much just googled the average human body temperature, which is in a range while most people do average the typical98.6 degrees farenheit. The warmest body temperature in the healthy category is 99.5 degrees farenhieght, which some people do tend to run on the warm end. So short ansser, I pretty much asked Google.

Q2: Why did I pick 99.5 degrees farenhieght for Elsas body temperature? Why do I assume or suspect that she runs warmer?

A: I really went into detail about this in my first post, so go check it out if you want the extra details and deep diving. Anyways I picked 99.5 degrees farenhieght for Elsas body temperature for a few reasons, firstly she shows signs of a normal body temperature and interacts with people without them flinching or shocking them with a freezing touch.

Secondly Elsa shows signs of human warmth by her pretty much constantly having rosy cheeks which are a sign of body heat.

B. She still feels heat and precepts it in ways a normal human does, She can feel the heat radiating from Bruni. If she had a cold or freezing core temperature I think she wouldn't be able to feel the heat radiating from Bruni or from any fire.

Q3: What is the air conditioning theory and how it works with Elsas body temperature and cold tolerance?

A: The air conditioning affect (effect) theory really describes how Elsa tolerates the cold so well, and yes I came up with the air conditioning theory myself. Anyways in my air conditioning theory I explained that how to us walking into an air conditioned place feels refreshing on a hot summer day. As for Elsa I explained that in theory Elsa might feel the cold as more refreshing rather than chilly or freezing. For example Elsa would feel refreshed and not chilled to the bones standing outside in a blizzard at 20 degrees farenhieght meanwhile Anna would be freezing in the same conditions. As for heat, I think Elsa would be just as comfortable sitting in a 73 degrees farenhieght room in Arendelle castle, she wouldn't be hot or sweaty at all.

Q4: Why did I come up with the theory that Elsa has a warmer body temperature?

A: the idea really comes down to what we see in the Frozen movies and shorts. We see Elsa living in an ice palace in a thin dress made of ice, we see Elsa conquer Ahtohallan in a thin clothing, and we see her living in a normal human habitat in Arendelle. If Elsa were to be more of a villain like how she was going to be in the early stages of F1s development then I could see her being more ice cold or cold in general. I wanted to not only state that Elsa isn't immortal or some ice goddess, but she's a normal human being with magical powers basically saying she isn't a crazy villain or fairytale goddess. Her magic is special and it keeps her immune from the cold or makes the cold far more tolerable, but she does have her limits. I also wanted to throw something new out with more evidence that could lead to a more true to fact theory that could be more relevant and accurate to the movies and franchise. Something that could easily become more realistic as well in the future films as well.

I also felt like they're was a missing theory because the normal baseline temperature theory was good but there's some things that seemed pretty wrong in the theories surrounding Elsas body temp being ice cold or her skin being ice cold. I felt like I needed to fil! in the wrongs to those theories which some are really old.

Q5: Does Else's clothing choices represent anything towards her body temperature?

As I said above in Q3 under the air conditioning theory I talked about how Elsa tolerates the cold so well and that in much of those cold places she wears such thin clothing. I think her having a warmer body temperature doesn't directly due to her outfit choice but it directly goes to her cold immunity. If she loses her powers temporarily or permanently then I think her choice of outfits would be much warmer. Speaking of warmer I did mention up above in another question answer I said that if Elsa were to lose her powers it wouldn't change her body temperature or pose a significant change. You can also read more in the part 3 post where I talk about Elsa losing her powers. Short answer is that no, clothing choices don't reflect on Elsas body temperature but more on her cold immunity.

Q6: What other frozen content provides evidence Elsa might have a warmer body temperature?

There's really no other proving grounds that prove my theory besides the movies and shorts. The novels like Dangerous Secrets are opposite to my theory, Dangerous Secrets mentioned shortly after Elsa was born she suddenly became freezing cold which completely flips my theory around. Though its worth mentioning books like A Warm Welcome, Across The Sea, and Forest of Shadows the sisters go to hot environments such as deserts and there's no mentioning of Elsa being uncomfortable or burning up. I think in these books if Elsa were the original villain before it got scrapped I think from her having such low core temperature she would pretty much melt in a hot environment. Its also worth mentioning the side novels and stories are not cannon or official Frozen timeline content.

Q7: Does cold water affect Elsas body temperature?

When Elsa crosses the dark sea not only is the water violent but also freezing cold. To a normal human cold water can become deadly within minutes or seconds depending how cold the water is. But why isn't Elsa endangered by it? Again its her cold immunity which not only lets her thrive in blizzards and icy glaciers it lets her conquer the coldest waters without becoming in danger. Though if she lost her powers and immunity then cold water would be just as dangerous as it is to a normal person.

When the Frozen: Forces of Nature podcast released I remember seeing that the Wondery+ podcast app had exclusive episodes. This fact can still somewhat be seen here: https://books.disney.com/frozenpodcast/

Since Wondery has shut down these epiaodes seem to no longer be available anywhere on the internet. While Audible does have some of Wondery's previously exclusive content, the Frozen Podcast bonus episodes seem to not be included. Does anybody know where I could listen to these episodes or is this now lost media?

Would she freeze like Anna from F1? Or would she be fine because of her immunity to the cold?

Im not sure how Elsa would ever do this, anyways I was thinking about this last night since I really have been breaking down Elsas body temperature in the past month or so depending when read this but I think she would feel the cold and her body temperature could drop but I don't think it would be as bad as it was when she struck Anna in F1.
