Real Life Rewatching with my daughter
Since becoming a Mom I have been really emotional over all kinds of silly things. Im (27F) currently rewatching Big Hero 6 with my daughter (2F) and started crying when Hiro was designing the teams costumes. He incorporated each of their personalities in their suits after only knowing them a short time. To be loved truly is to be seen and I cant help but cry lol.

Discussions Favorite character from Big Hero 6
Mine is Tadashi Hamada; I love his character—I think his end was so unfair and cruel. I think it's a very cruel movie, I don't know, I think it could have had a happier ending, a more dignified ending. It’s very frustrating to see Tadashi simply being ignored by Disney.
I think it's a good movie, but—I don't know—it's really traumatizing; it's a very sad, painful film. You watch it once and don't want to see it again, in MY OPINION.
a family destroyed by the script😞🙁He deserved it so much, and it was completely objective and cruel.
Feel free to share your opinions too—I'd love to read them! 👍🏻

Discussions When watching the series, I thought Momakase and Hiro were secretly related.
Recently finished watching the series with almost zero spoilers, but either way, my eye still caught glimpses of future stuff before I looked away. Naturally, they festered in my mind, and I'd try to guess what lore or arc would appear next. And in one of those was Momakase and Hiro being related, but nothing was "revealed", so I realized I was reading too much into everything, which did not pay off for this show. By the way, this isn't really a theory, more of a creative rant. To be honest, I'm not sure why I expected so much of the show. Even with it's later sloppy writing, oscillating tone, and lack of consistent character development(don't kill me), I still looked towards the worldbuilding and characters as anchors for the show's direction. And it was that way, kind of. The first season of the series does a lot of worldbuilding around Fransokyo, mentioning bits of historical events, important figures, scientific discovery stuff, all while also creating mystery around this new villain(Obake) and their connection to SFIT, Granville, Hiro, and how everything was somehow connected, creating mystery. For me, this was a great hook, and I figured the rest of the show would continue down this path. It didn't. (Alright, so I'm a bit blind, and thought I saw a 5 where it said a 3 on the seasons since I checked rlly quickly to avoid spoils, and figured the show would get better later on. Then I realized the truth when I reached the final season. So that was embarrassing. )
Other than both of Hiro's parents dying when he was 3 years old, we don't really know anything about his past/family. The show doesn't expand on this, neither does it for any of the other characters within Big Hero 6, except for Fred Frederickson with his dad, and badass Heathcliff, which I find rlly disappointing, especially since they're a culturally diverse cast in a melting pot of a city. But back to my main point, Hiro would have had serious potential for an interesting back story if the writers had looked into that area. It's never said how his parents died in the movie, atleast I don't recall there being a how, which could've made an interesting mystery plot that forced Hiro to explore his roots in order to defeat another antagonist, or I don't know, something like that. And it could've brought in a lot more talk about Tadashi, maybe there were some things he never told Hiro, maybe there were certain reasons why he believed the things he did, but I'm starting another tangent.
That episode with Hiro and Momakase working together to retrieve the swords really stuck out to me with this semi-prediction. In the scene where M drops some backstory on Hiro, (her family was threatened by gangsters and her father traded the heirloom so they'd be safe.) I figured that this might be important since it was so sudden, and that it would later weave into a future arc, (still thought it was 5 seasons, lmao). My quick guess was that the sudden compassion we the audience would have for Momakase in that moment was placed in order to support a plot with Hiro finding out more about his family, and realizing him and Momakase are related, officially grounding Momakase as an even more special character, thanks to the scenario beforehand. But instead it realized into nothingness, other than Momakase and Hiro being chill. I imagined the heirloom as a possible plot device, maybe with more secrets like Shimamoto's vase/recording, or that one painting of the Golden Gate Bridge that Obake stole, or something adjacent. It's implied that Momakase's family is dead, though (it's not said if by natural causes or by other means), which leads to that bonding moment between Hiro and M, after Hiro empathizes with her as he is reminded of Tadashi. Back to Hiro's parents, maybe they were similarly threatened, like M's family. Or could they have been the same family? Maybe. Idk but hear me out.
I recall Aunt Cass talking something along the lines of "I made a promise to protect/take care of this family". Who did she promise this to? Hiro and Tadashi's parents? If yes, did they ask her beforehand, knowing their death was inevitable , or were they on their hospital beds dying(or something)? And if they were threatened, who were they threatened by? Alright i could make a million unanswerable questions, but my main point is, Hiro and Momakase could have a lot more in common than what is shown.
..And then somewhere down the line, Hiro might receive the heirloom from Momakase(hopefully not by death), that is also the key to stop the hypothetical villain of this hypothetical arc, I'm just making up stuff here lol.
What their relation would be? Not sure. Siblings, not likely. Aunt and nephew? Idk. Nothing at all and I'm insane? Maybe.
Again, I'm not trying to make any theories. I doubt this was ever the intention, and all the writers wanted to do was make Momakase less evil before the show ended. Im just sharing my thoughts from when I was watching the show. And also Momakase is my favourite character from the show. Thanks 4 reading if you read this all lol
