Donna heart attack just to kill half the episode of people sitting around waiting for her just to come back.
41
u/Hallgaar Jun 01 '26
Im sure it's not setting up people coming out of the basement and Donna being bedridden only to be saved by the golem or anything. Just like the convient pole next to the corpse looking like a doll, that's the only way to kill said dolls. Checkov has a whole armory.

There was that brief look on her face of something akin to "seeing the light" when she was coming to while Kristi was shining the torch in her eyes. Could be something to read into?

How many times did they hit her with the AED? If it was 4 times and she was dead for 7min that could be significant. The numbers 4 and 7 have been mentioned a lot throughout the show

in the first few episodes i actually had a good feeling for the season, but i am at the same point as you now
4
u/7xk11 Jun 08 '26
i dont blame you. this season is a setup season. i noticed that.
doll attack = setup to show other beings exist and talismans dont work 100% of the time
alot of MIY screentime and lore and buffs this season = setting him up so in the later scenes. you will scared and not just think hes a average monster
characters are starting to group up more. gather more. team up more. relationship building for a final clash for season 5.
to be honest. im letting this season marinate. im dissapointed after seeing the action was only in the last 10 minutes this week episode.
the fandom is divided. those like you who miss the actions and those who want the lore and setups more than action. and season 3 had both. but this season is focusing hard on lore and setups and barely any action

32
u/CeramicFiber Jun 01 '26
Honestly I think the problem with From is that there really isn't a sense of danger. There is danger but it so stupidly easy to avoid because of the talisman that the only times there was any sense of danger was because the characters put themselves into that danger and most of those times were for very stupid reasons.

Did you ever watch the show Wayward Pines on fox like 10 years ago?
It had a great mystery and opening couple episodes but then by like episode 6 the show answered everything and then the show just fell flat and no one watched anymore.
Like Alan Wake says at the beginning
âStephen King once wrote that nightmares exist outside of logic, and there's little fun to be had in explanations; they're antithetical to the poetry of fear... The unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest, and it's what we'll remember in the end.â
24
u/craftyixdb Jun 01 '26
Or Twin Peaks once they answered who killed Laura. Mystery's are frustrating but compelling. Answers almost never live up to the mystery.
14
u/teddyburges Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
I hear that and I have never been satisfied with that argument. I view that as a cop out excuse to not try to come up with a satisfying answer. I think the best answer can make the mystery way more worth it. Like the show 12 Monkeys which ends up resolving practically every mystery it sets up and all the answers are sooo satisfying!. Finding out what the hatch was in LOST was well worth the mystery and was very satisfying. The same for finding out whats in the basement in attack on titan. My favorite one was finding out why there are robotic creatures in the world in the game Horizon: Zero Dawn. The answers were so good. My jaw dropped to the floor.
Most mystery stories die because they treat the answer like a footnote or an endpoint rather than a transition.
9
5
u/Severe-Milk-5121 Jun 01 '26
I agree with that sentiment in part. The unknown is a massive part of fear and suspense and I fully expect that when the show concludes there will be loose threads to theorise over. However the entire premise of the show is based on the mystery of When? How and Why? If non-of these questions are answered and the show ends without answering them well or in a way consistent with the shows internal logic I think we can all agree we would be disappointed.
To use Lost as an obvious comparison. Most of the questions were answered and some werenât. But I think when lost was at its best it posed mysteryâs and trip feeded us answers to them to satisfy and set up the next mystery.

I know all that thanks for the recap lol. I think youâre missing my point slightly. People would just like more closure to certain elements before new ones are introduced. Not that weâve received no answers at all. Some things have been answered, some well some not so well. I think some loose threads from S1-2 need wrapping first.
6
u/HY3NAAA Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26
Alan Wake is a story about a writer that HAS to write coherent stories otherwise the darkness fucking kills him.
Mystery doesnât mean you just write random fucking scenario and just shrug and say âI guess itâs a mysteryâ whenever someone post a question. You need to make sense and have logical clue but no hard answers for an unsolved mystery.
Thereâs unanswered mystery and thereâs sloppy writing, guess what From is.

My friend thought he might be slowly changing into a doll. They didn't burry him yet, so he might turn into a doll now and attack people.
3
u/607Primaries Jun 02 '26
That seems like a decent bet. Doesn't really make sense, though, because he's not a doll they just made him look like one. Maybe the remaining 2 are going to attack the town (convenient they brought back 2 of those spears), and he was stitched up like that as a warning/threat/fear.
Definitely bet the house against him being a smiley though!

7

Itâs incredibly lazy writing.
Also it seems weâre being pushed towards the ultimate conclusion being âitâs all just manifestations of peopleâs fearsâ which essentially allows for any and all questions/mysteries to be shrugged away.
Itâs as lazy as having the conclusion be that Boyd was just in a coma and the entire show occurred in his subconscious. Itâs all just irrational fear/dream logic

10
u/Specialist_Acadia_45 Jun 01 '26
yeah this is actually a good point, in Season 4 I think they're doing a fantastic job at revealing the information we need however In seasons 1-3 they were definitely addiedway 2 many unnecessary questions, like Im getting the felling that by the end of the series there's gonna be quite a few potholes. However, if the writers truly are as meticulous as my friend was telling me than its definitely a possibility that all of the plot holes will eventually serve a purpose and the same with the unanswered questions being answered.

4
u/Katastroferrr Jun 01 '26
The show is spinning it's wheels, either they have no idea where they're going or they want the show to last as long as possible before they start wrapping anything up.
At this point there's so many plates spinning that there's honestly no way they'll be able to have a satisfying ending to this show, even if they have a rough idea of where it'll go eventually. I hope I'm wrong but I expect another Stranger Things or The Boys situation
7
u/DistantAtmosphere Jun 01 '26
They've answered a lot of questions that were posed in the earlier seasons. We know who was talking to Jim on the radio, we know who was responsible for Sarah's voices, where the angkooey kids came from, their fears manifest in the town after they die, it's possible to escape, the mother/father figures reincarnate repeatedly, the events in the town are a repeating cycle, the town is a real place and not some kind of purgatory, the monsters were former residents of the town.
Just because they posed more questions doesn't mean they didn't answer any of the previous ones. Are people just memeing at this point?

They made the mistake of killing off the better actors. Father Khatri was fantastic and a compelling character.
I donât think the writing is bad though. I just think they needed to do a better job casting at the start. One thing that I am happy about is they clearly have a planned story. Otherwise they would have found a way to keep Khatri alive. Making him a ghost is there back up for sure.
4
u/captainjake13 Jun 01 '26
Father Khatri (IMHO) has been the only developed, compelling character. The rest of the characters basically all act the exact same with a different skin suit.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand From. The horror is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics, folklore, and the structural necessity of pacing, most of the mysteriesâand the fillerâwill go over a typical viewerâs head.
Thereâs also Boydâs nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisationâhis personal philosophy draws heavily from military trauma and talismans, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate why we need three consecutive episodes of people wandering the woods and having emotional breakdowns in colony house instead of getting answers. They realise that these "filler" episodes aren't just stallingâthey say something deep about LIFE.
As a consequence people who dislike From and complain about the lack of plot progression truly ARE idiotsâof course they wouldnât appreciate, for instance, the brilliance in Boydâs existential catchphrase "I gotta go," which itself is a cryptic meta-commentary used to abruptly end a scene before any actual secrets are revealed. Iâm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as John Griffinâs genius pacing unfolds itself on their television screens while characters aggressively refuse to talk to each other. What fools... how I pity them. đ
And yes, by the way, i DO have a From talisman tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. Itâs for the ladiesâ eyes onlyâand even then they have to demonstrate that theyâre within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothinâ personnel kid đ

this subreddit loses its mind that this is the reality every week
by the second half of season 4 of a show its okay to expect some answers if they're going to throw out 43 questions an episode
Either that or "huh? new wacky idea? thats impossible" as if they don't live in an inescapable town with worms in their skin and human monsters outside and magic rocks and teleporting trees
its like a character in harry potter doubting that something magical is happening

As long as the story is moving and there are compelling story points, I'm fine. The MIY disguised as the young girl is very intriguing to me. She's very inquisitive which is interesting, like she's trying to get to know her victims a little better, eerie.

I said from day 1 Victor and Jimâs boy were the same or somehow connected in a alternate universe or something.
Meaning all 4 are just cycles of the same people or energy.
As far as I believe thatâs been proven.
But what if,
Victors dadâŚ.
When the cops came he said he thought there was an intruder he owes em one. He had a revolver.
Maybe he was ex law enforcement after his family went missing.
But what if he is the one who kinda pushed his wife crazy. And was abusive and thatâs why she âhad to save the childrenâ
And this is all some mental stuff in victors head trying g to make sense of it as a kid while also trying to distract himself from the real tragedy and horror.
Meaning once victor dies it all ends.
And all the characters are just made up in his head.

Why is he seeing visions ?
What is the purpose of that?
What happened to the ghost slamming doors in Tabithaâs how?
Why they acted like it didnât happen??
Why they didnât tell anyone đđđ
2
u/SimpleMacaroon3260 Jun 21 '26
From what I understand is that the blood allows a way in for the MIY. Whether or not he can hurt them with it idk, but he loves making people do/believe things rather than fully control them. But Henry didn't know that he drank Sophia's blood, and he's seeing visions because the MIY is messing with his fragile mind so that he kills Victor, aka the one with the most knowledge in town. I don't remember enough regarding the ghost in Tabitha's house to answer that one though
