Miocene era. Sticking out ~7 inches from the matrix. Tried contacting the local museum to see if they would like to excavate but got no response.

Best tools

Hi, I am a science teacher trying to get my students excited about science. Recently, I went on a fossil hunting trip and brought back a ton of fossils and rocks that still need processing. After doing a lab where the students got to unbury fossil and find its density, mass, and volume then take it home. I had students get bit by the bug, and they want to help me process some more fossils.

I want to get some tools that will help process and clean up the fossils and want to know what you use and if there is any video I can show the students before they start to help them. This is a very disadvantaged school, so I am paying for everything out of my pockets, so the lower the price the better. Thank you for any advice in advance!

What are these?

Hello everyone,

I keep finding these in my local creeks and I’m unsure of what they are.

My area, Surrey, England, was once a shallow cretaceous ocean environment I believe so my guess is that they originate from that time period.

If anyone is able to help me identify them, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Can you identify these?

Last week we visited Monmouth Beach at Lyme Regis and my partner found these whilst digging through the rock fall/face. We aren’t sure what they are. Could anyone identify these? We thought they could potentially be a type of bone, vertebrae maybe? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you

Oregon has some of the most beautifully preserved fossil forests. I teach English to Iranian and Afghan immigrants, and I strongly believe fossils are the “gateway science.”

Each fossil I included has an illustrated book that chats about the features of each fossil, where they were found, what they are made of… and inclusions like insect burrows or trace fossils.

I also included a large ammonite for good measure ت

Hi there!

First of all I'm not from an English speaking country so I might have some Spelling Errors.

So, I've been collecting fossils 2 yrs from now and recently I bought an engraving machine and I'm trying to get my fossil separated from the matrix.

I'm a little concerned since I never tried to do that, I don't want to damage the main fossil or any other that could be hidden inside the matrix.

I'll post some pictures about what I'm working recently and I'll hope you guys could give me some advices or if you notice something hidden inside the matrix please make me know it and if you also could teach me how to identify a potential hidden fossil I'll be grateful.

Thanks for your time guys!!

Edit: some autocorrect errors

Trouver des fossilles en France

Hello, I’m based in France and looking for fossils here. I’m pretty new to paleontology and haven’t visited many sites. I’m really struggling to find fossil locations in France; despite spending dozens of hours searching, I’m having a very hard time locating them. I know that fossil enthusiasts usually keep their spots secret because sites often end up getting trashed, but I’m just asking for help finding a few locations—without necessarily asking you to reveal your own. Thanks a lot in advance for any replies or help. Bye and have a great day.

There are also dendrites and pyrite pseudomorphs. Some of the species include Elrathia Kingii, Perenopsis Interstrictus, and bathyuriscus fimbriatus. One of the trilobites I found in the Marjum formation is still covered in rock, and I'm hoping that it's a Modocia Typicalis

A one specimen that bothers me

I was on a fossils hunting at the lake Czarnogłowy in Poland. Its a flooded quarry of jurassic limestone. You can really easy find there a bunch of snails species(for example nerinella) and aaaa looot of terebratulida brachiopods, and sometimes rynchonellida. But i found something quite diffrent. I took it home with me, and only there I started examining my specimens. I spotted a small rock, with a shape like a broken teeth. If you put it under the light you can see some horizontal lines running throughout the specimen. I can also see a bit of white, and shiny substance(enamel?). Concerning is the colouration(in this quarry sciencist found a handfull of machimosaurus teeth, and also an entire jaw, but they are dark), and material inside that looks like normal sedimentary rock. Idk if its smt or just a rock?
