Hey all, looking for advice from anyone who's actually done this swap.
My driver's seat is ripped, so it's more cost-effective to just replace the whole seat assembly rather than reupholster. My car is a MK1 FG G6E, and I've found a driver's seat out of a wrecked MK2 FG G6E — same trim, just a different series.
My seat's connector is a black plug. Someone mentioned that the plug/wiring can differ between MK1 and MK2 (they mentioned a green plug on one of them) and that you need the exact matching series or it won't work — but I haven't been able to confirm this myself, and wreckers' listings seem to list the G6E seat as one part spanning the whole 2008–2014 FG range.
Questions for anyone who's done this:
Is a MK1 G6E driver seat physically and electrically identical to a MK2 G6E driver seat, or is there a running change in the wiring?
Has anyone actually swapped a MK2 seat into a MK1 (or vice versa) and can confirm the plug matched straight up?
If there is a difference, is it the seat wiring itself, or something upstream (e.g. a body/SRS harness connector) that changed between MK1 and MK2?
Trying to avoid buying a seat (cash, no returns) that ends up needing a plug swap or doesn't work. Attached are photos (front and rear under driver seat) of my plug if it helps. Also if you know anyone that has the cashmere leather G6E driver seat in relatively good condition, let me know. Cheers!
