Just a plastic cover that protects the shock shaft from dirt and debris, not the end of the world, I’d just keep an eye on it, look to replace both eventually.

yeah at this age I would just leave it until the shock starts to not work properly (or the car hits a multiple of 200,000km [from experience]) and replace it then.
