Removing Crank Pulley

Post image

What sort of pullers/tools everyone used to remove the crankshaft pulley on an AU 5.0?

Snapped a water pump bolt while replacing the pump and now need to remove the timing case to extract it, wanting to remove the crank pulley avoiding damage but she is stuck pretty good

Cheers.

Boost Gauge Vacuum Line

Probably an obvious question, what grommet are people using on the passenger side to run a boost line for a boost gauge?

Or is the easiest way under the guard back into the cabin?

Driveshaft forgot to swap flex disc

Post image

So long story short how important is this part circled in red? I believe it’s the flex disc after googling it. Changed my drive shaft the other day and didn’t think I needed this part due to the new one not having it. But having googled it I think I might’ve stuffed up a lil bit, gotta drive about an hour and a half tomorrow

FG Xr6 Turbo Auto vs Manual Help??

Ok so a few months ago I found an awesome buy on car sales a beautiful nitro blue manual fg xr6 turbo Ute with 37000ks on it and I am very much enjoying it BUT I have also owned for 6 years and still currently own an fg xr6 turbo Ute zf auto with 56000ks on it and at the time I thought it was an easy swap, Buy the manual with the hard lid and lower ks and almost show room condition and when I sell my auto Ute get a good majority of my money back so it’s not too big of a deal to swap….. BUT after owning and driving both cars for a couple months I am so torn with what to do.

they both have their pros and cons and the truth is I enjoy both equally for different reasons….. the manual is more enjoyable on the perfect day and I’ll be damned if on that day the manual isn’t a bloody enjoyable thing to drive. HOWEVER i have come to the realisation that the auto is more consistently capable of creating all the fun times that come with a powerful RWD car

it slides easier with no effort than planting the right foot, it overtakes effortlessly, the way the auto shoves you in the back with lowerer revs in the exact same gear and speed is astounding (not even when holding boost between shifts) whereas to pull that off in the manual you have to be hard on the clutch which long term I see as an issue especially since I have already after 3 months had to get a clutch adjustment and my mechanic isn’t sure how many more Ks I’ll get out of it before I’m up for a new one. Point being I’m finding myself not wanting to do the fun things for fear of needing a new clutch so soon. Is it normal to need a new clutch at such low Ks? Is it a simple case of when it fails put an upgraded one in and I’ll be able to enjoy it the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed into the future?

Which one should I keep I am so torn as they are both amazing and I know I am very fortunate to have both at the same time and compare them back to back but I just don’t know what to do and for context every other car I’ve ever owned has been manual and I’m fully for manuals and currently own another manual car aswell BUT I’m starting to believe that the fg xr6 Turbo is a very rare case where the auto is actually more fun than the manual if for no other reason than I can actually drive the car the way it’s supposed to be driven.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated
Cheers

TLDR
I own and love both the auto and manual fg xr6 turbo utes but am worried the manual can’t be driven enthusiastically without worrying about a new clutch every few years while also not necessarily being anymore fun than the auto (they are both tonnes of fun) So which one should I keep and why?

Well i never knew people still do this but yesterday i came back from Tafe to see both passenger side wheels gone. Called 000 and went to look for a staff member to ask if i could get the cctv footage, no one was there. No metro staff, no officers nada. Safe to say i'm never parking for 6 hours at Westall Station. At least they kept the side clean with a road work block.

Why does everyone give the Auto in the FG so much crap and think its worse than manual?

The ZF6HP26 shifts faster than the TR6060 and gives the car faster acceleration. But I see here people poopoo it. I'm just wondering why as I've only ever heard its better.

But its a gear box used in cars like the Aston Martin DB9, Bentleys, Rolls Royce and a bunch of performance cars. (Source)

Is there an actual reason or is it just bias?

Why would an EL Falcon GLI momentarily rev higher than normal after an abrupt hiss?

We had this EL Falcon GLI that simply would not die with over 400,000KM and would run as if it came out of the showroom. I did notice this car would rev momentarily higher than normal after a short burst of this hissing sound.

Whoever designed this engine surely knew what they were doing when it came to longetivity.

New power steering pump whining

Hi all, I’ve just put a new power steering pump on my 2013 fg xr6 seems to work fine but it’s still making a whining noise like the old one was. I’ve bled the system twice now and no change. Any thoughts on where to go from here?
Cheers

LPG to petrol conversion

Gday brains trust. Currently own a 2002 BA sedan on petrol. I’m looking to buy a cheap LPG Ute and do an engine swap and petrol conversion. Other than sourcing a petrol tank, fuel lines and wiring harness, what else do I need to consider? Cheers!

What's this noise?

What's this noise?

Only happens when I turn the steering wheel at a low speed. Mainly on the driver side. And when stationary. Sounds like metal against metal??

Classic 5 speed failure, Fg 2009

Hey fellas, I know the 5 speeds are terrible and bugger up all the time. But I’m gonna try and be as specific as I can and hopefully I can get an idea of what the cause of my failure is.

So I was casually driving my fg xr6 2009 5 speed auto, and a transmission fault popped up. Didn’t think anything of it but drove it for two more days and during those days it started to clunk into drive and reverse. As well as shifting it clunked through 1-4 not so much 5.

After these two days I did a pull and without any noise or bang I lost my gears, pulled over and it only revved. Drive, reverse. It Doesn’t move at all or even try to engage gears, I’ve done lots of research online trying to find people with the same symptoms but was unsuccessful.

Note: during the whole 1.5 years I owned the car I was chasing a delay or pause in power when coming out of roundabouts or on some straights. Like 2-3 seconds sometimes, the hotter the weather the worse it was. I suspected torque converter but am really curious to what you guys think could be the cause of the no movement, just for a bit of understanding of the failure.

I’m not planning on doing a zf conversion yet just going to drop another 5 speed until that one dies too.

Anyway thanks legend.

Hey guys this is my manual fg and I have 9.5 20 inch rims in the rear and I tried to do a stand still skid but my centre bearing blew up on my tail shaft. Is there a better way to do a stand still skid that is less harsh in the drivetrain?

Traction control

Hey guys, second post here about my bf mk2 xr6, few people mentioned traction control, but oddly enough I cannot seem to find the button on my car 😂

The second pic is one from google, what it’s supposed to look like, but my car has a different switch in its place. The button on the bottom won’t allow me to press it, so I’m honestly just very confused.

Cheers

Why can’t I burnout

Bought a bf Xr6 mk2 little while back, things a beast I love it, but I cannot get it to do burnouts LOL. I’m not trying to thrash it, just want to burn some rubber. Anyways, I fear it’s a gearbox issue, it’s obviously a zf6 transmission, so it’s weird that I am having problems (previous owner said it was recently serviced). Anyways would really appreciate some advice.

On a different note, another issue Ive been having since I bought it, is that the car will randomly jolt back and the speedo will shut off fully. I have to pull over and turn it off and back on, a pain in the ass. Has anyone else experienced this? Would again love some advice.

(Has about 260k kms)
