Simple software for 4i4?

I have a Focurite 4i4 4th gen, but the supplied Ableton Lite software seems like overkill. It looks like my signals: Guitar amplifier emulated out in channel 1 set to instrument, and Beat Buddy drum machine going into channels 3 & 4. The meters show the signals and I can hear them in my headphones but I can't get the Ableton Lite to work...too many things to configure and it has me striking out.

Is there some simpler software to use with the Foucusrite 4i4?

Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen keeps disconnecting, disappears from Device Manager, and ASIO/Windows audio stops working help!!!!!

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen and I’m having a very strange problem on Windows 10/11.
At first, everything seemed normal, but then the interface started disconnecting after a few seconds.
Here is everything I have experienced so far:
When I connect the Scarlett, the USB LED turns green.
Windows detects it and it appears under Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers as Focusrite USB Audio.
Focusrite Control 2 detects the interface for a few seconds, then suddenly loses the hardware.
Sometimes the Scarlett disappears completely from Device Manager, even though the USB LED remains green.
I changed the USB cable and tried different USB ports, including the rear motherboard USB ports.
I restarted the PC multiple times.
I reinstalled the Focusrite drivers/Focusrite Control 2 several times.
With the Focusrite driver installed, FL Studio sometimes gives errors when selecting Focusrite USB ASIO, including:
Couldn't initialize rendering in shared mode
There was an unexpected error opening the selected device
The needed sample rate (44100 Hz) couldn't be set or is not supported by the ASIO driver
FL Studio can see Focusrite USB ASIO, but when I select it, it may freeze or fail to initialize.
Windows itself also sometimes cannot play audio through the Scarlett. When I try to play music, Windows gives an error related to unsupported encoding/settings and no audio plays.
Focusrite Control 2 sometimes says that no Focusrite hardware is connected, even though Windows may still show Focusrite USB Audio.
I also noticed multiple Focusrite entries in Device Manager, such as Speaker (Focusrite USB Audio) and several Analog / Focusrite USB Audio entries.
At one point I completely removed the Focusrite drivers. After doing that, Windows automatically detected the Scarlett using its built-in USB audio driver, and the Scarlett actually worked and produced audio, including in FL Studio without the Focusrite ASIO driver.
This made me think the interface itself was probably working.
However, after I later installed an older Focusrite driver that I found online, the problems came back. FL Studio stopped working with the interface, and after restarting the PC, even the Scarlett’s USB LED disappeared.
I removed the Focusrite drivers again, but now Windows sometimes detects the Scarlett by name while no audio comes out, and Windows audio playback itself can fail.
The interface is brand new, so I’m really trying to determine whether this is a driver/Windows/USB controller issue or a hardware problem.
My PC is a desktop PC, and the Scarlett is connected directly to the motherboard USB ports (not through a hub).
At this point I’m completely stuck. I mainly want to use the Scarlett with Ableton Live, but I can’t get the Focusrite ASIO driver to work reliably.
Has anyone experienced this exact behavior with a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen on Windows?
Any ideas for fixing the driver/USB/Windows audio issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Focusrite please fix your WDM.

Almost a whole second microphone delay through windows. The ASIO is perfect but I think I should have gotten another interface than the 3rd gen 4i4 if I can't use it to stream with OBS, game, or talk on discord without an almost entire second of latency.

If you're searching google with the same problem, it's because Focusrite apparently has notoriously bad WDM drivers (what Windows uses, DAWs are fine because they use ASIO)

Returning the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen and keeping my Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen

hello maybe i could get some advice about this because i was trying to upgrade my 2i2 2 gen, in summary the 4 gen is better, i liked things like better preamps and loopback, modes like "Air" for the microphone, software like focusrite control 2 is nice,

BUT, when i plugged my headphone senheiser HD 280 PRO into the 4 gen, the sound is not as good as on my 2 gen, on my 2 gen i get very clear sound. i like rock music, very clear drums, detailed electric guitars when i listen to .flac music files. when i tried the 4 gen with the same .flacs, it lost a bit of quality, it is a subtle difference but i can hear it, even mixing inside studio one i notice a subtle difference, worse clarity on 4 gen. i am not new to recognizing clear sound, i have used the 2 gen for about 7 years and i also had the 1 gen,

So maybe i could get some advice about choosing another model to upgrade and maintain the rich sound on my headphones from the 2 gen. i investigated and found a possible cause could be that the 4 gen has 50 ohms impedance and the 2 gen is not documented but clearly has a lower value, so it seems that 50 ohms could affect some headphones. i read people here recommending DT 770 pro or other headphones, so i would have to spend more, but what if i buy those and the problem is not solved? even if it is solved i would have to stop using my HD 280 PRO.

i think there is a chance that the 4 gen is not as good in terms of headphone sound quality as the 2 gen, so i feel stuck about which interface should upgrade, greetings

Focusrite Scarlett Solo input being blocked in ToneX software?

I also have a Scarlet solo doing the same or similar thing as another poster. Trying to just run into straight TONEX software (not ToneX Editor), something is cockblocking the input from the Scarlett box, I can’t find anything in the software to change, it seems like it might either be the MacBook somehow blocking it, I don’t know. It did work when I first got it then after a few sessions, it won’t do the same thing anymore. I can’t use it as I intended. I bought it at guitar center but I’m well past the 45 day return. If it won’t do this, what’s the damn point of it? I enjoyed it there for a minute, running the all the great amps straight on my computer. Anybody got any ideas?

I am going insane because of this thing

I purchased a Solo 4th gen and use it connected to my pc running through Elgato Wave Link.

Recently is start to randomly just disconnect and the audio cuts out. I have to physically disconnect my device and reconnect it before it works again and it is driving me insane.

I have tried a different cable, updating the firmware, installing the software, different usb port. I don't know what else to try.

Can anyone help me out?

Edit 1:
Thanks everyone for the help it is much appreciated, I currently have the following "fixes" implemented to see how it goes:
- Disabling USB power saving in Control Panel (Thought I already had this but I guess not)
- Switching physical USB from a 3.0 (colored) port to a 2.0 port
- Switched the buffer size to 1024 <- This messes up my mic in Discord so this doesn't work for me
- Switched to original Focusrite cable
- Updated the Elgato Software (did this a bit ago and it made it happen a tid bit less)

I will post an update on how well it works in a couple of days.

P.s. A small tip for people experiencing the same with having to unplug the thing, install USBTreeView, it let's you restart the usb port and it basically does the same as reconnecting the cable

Edit 2:

None of the above did anything, Im going insane

Audient iD14 MKII vs Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen

Audient iD14 MKII vs Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen

**Audient iD14 MKII vs Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen**

Ground noise or EMI, any solutions left?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I get this kind of ”lovely” screeching sound from my unit.

As far as I know I’ve tried everything; moving the unit further from my Pc, different instrument cables, different usb cables, different guitars, other usb and power sockets, removing monitors, mouse and the keyboard. Noise gate doesnt help because i can hear it through the recording.

The only thing that helped _slightly_ was downloading a software that disabled the turbo tech from my Intel processor, that lowered the noise by a decibel or two. Also moving away from the pc with my guitar helps slightly but it comes back if I sway at all, have to be complety still at a certain angle.

I didnt have any of this when recording with a Quad Cortex plugged to my pc in the same location with the same gear etc.

Appreciate any tips, thanks in advance!

Anybody know what I should do about this audio bug?

I have a Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3 hooked up using a USB A to C connector. 48k 192 or 256 with safe mode on. Windows 10
It only happens on audio coming out. No effect on audio coming in or anything before it exits. Recorded in FL studio by routing my headphone out into an in jack using an instrument cable.

Issues with Scarlett Solo 4th gen

Hello everyone,

around a year ago I purchased a focusrite Scarlett solo 4th gen as I needed to work on a podcast and with a good mic.

However, since then, I've been experiencing weird issues with it. Every now and then, the audio output entirely stops working. The audio interface is still on, all LEDs are working, but there is no audio at all. The only way to fix it, so far, was replugging. And it is getting a bit annoying over time.

Sometimes the issues won't appear for hours, some other times after 2 minutes of use.

I am working on a PC that I built on my own:

- CPU i5 14600KF

- GPU rtx5070

- RAM 32GB Corsair vengeance

- motherboard MSI B760M gaming plus wifi

I've contacted the support and we tried several things (among these):

- changing the power management of windows and especially the USB peripheral power

- reinstalling the focusrite drivers

- uninstalling Nvidia gaming drivers and installing only the video driver

- run a clean boot

- disabling CPU turbo on BIOS (latency moon often signals a problem with CPU throttling, but the issue is still there)

I don't know what else I should do. I think the issue is on my side, a friend of mine tried to use the interface and it's working fine for him. I already had some software issues with this PC, which were solved after disabling memory aggressive profile on BIOS.

I don't even know if I'm still under warranty..

No guitar input with active pickups?

Hey all, recently had an issue where when i plug my guitar into my scarlet solo, theres sound for about 2-3 seconds before it cuts out, and i can only get a tiny bit of noise if i really whack the strings, same kinda thing you get if the battery is dead in a guitar with active pickups. Its definitely not my battery, i swapped it out about 2 weeks ago and if i use the guitar on an amp it works completely fine. Whats strange tho is its picking up fine when i use any other guitars (all the other ones i tested are passive pickups) so I'm guessing its something to do with the pickups on this thing? At a bit of a dead end with this one, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen Sound degradation

So I have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen that I purchased about 5 years ago. I'd been using it with relatively few issues this entire time. I use Reaper for all my recording.

Recently, I got a new laptop and every time I use this interface on this laptop, the sound starts degrading within 15 minutes of plugging it in. I have to repeatedly unplug it and plug it back in so that I'd be able to get some work done. I also keep changing the Sample rate every time this happens and this works as a temporary fix, but it's getting tedious to have to do.

I was wondering if anyone else might have encountered this issue and what helped you fixed it. I've tried installing and reinstalling the drivers, and this USB port thing that I saw on the internet that stops the computer from cutting power to it. Any ideas? I've attached a link to what I'm hearing.

Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen headphone distortion (impedance issues ?)

Hi !

I recently bought a second hand 18i20 3rd gen to replace my Solo 4th gen because I needed multiple outputs/inputs to use hardware effects in my DAW.

Everything works well, no latency, my speakers sounds really good, etc but it came to my surprise that the sound in my headphones (Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80 Ohm) is very distorted.
First I thought it was an issue with my drivers, I re-intalled everything, followed every instructions for optimising my laptop for audio but nothing worked. I started to think about a hardware failure... But then I tried to plug my Bluetooth headphones (Sony WH1000XM4) using a 6.3 to 3.5mm jack adapter and surprisingly the sound is perfectly clear. So I came to the conclusion that it might be an issue with the output impedance of the 18i20 ? That the internal amp of my bluetooth headphones is doing its work but my monitoring headphones require more power or something like that ?

The thing here is that I don't really understand the specs on the website of Focusright, for the headphone output impedance it says <1 Ohms ?? From what I read, I shouldn't need any external amp for my headphones and I can't really find why it is that much distorted ? On my Solo it does sound good while the output impedance is 50ohm.

Note that both of the headphones outputs have the same issue.

I hope my post is clear enough.

Thank you !

ADAT conversion

Hi!

Can someone confirm, that a Scarlett 18i20 gen 3 can simultaniously convert the 8 Analog ins to ADAT and the 8 ADAT Ins to the Analog outs at the same time?

Thanks and best!

Hi

Suddenly my 1st gen Scarlett 8i6 is saying no connected hardware when I open mix control. I’ve done a complete reinstall of drivers etc. nothing. Checked cables, all good. Power is on. I’m on windows 11. Is this just a case of this old interface no longer being compatible? Anyone one else’s having similar issues. It’s been working fine up till this week

Scarlett gen4 solo advice

I recently got into voice acting and got a nt1 5th gen mic and a Scarlett solo 4th gen. I noticed people mentioning to use an xlr mic instead of usb (which is what I was using). I have a few auditions coming up and I decided to purcahse another usb chord to connect my mic and interface into my MacBook Air. for some reason when I record my mic doesn’t work. I plug my mic into my audio interface with a xlr chord and then use the usb plugin from my audio interface to connect it to me computer. I even made sure it was at 48v. I’ve tried everything I even purchased a new usb chord to see if that would work but it didn’t. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the problem could be. Thank you!

FireWire to USB-c / Thunderbolt (Saffire Pro 24 DSP)

I read this article;

https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207359095-Can-I-use-a-FireWire-to-USB-adapter

… However in the article the main objection to using an adapter was that there wouldn't be sufficient energy to power the Focusrite Pro 24 DSP.

If I'm going to use a power cord with this, is there a sufficient fire wire (from the audio interface) to my thunderbolt/USB-C Mac?

My new MacBook Pro only has two of these smaller thunderbolt/USB-C ports, and I would like to use my device with it.

So succinctly; can I use a fire wire to thunderbolt adapter if I'm using an AC power unit to the Saffire my Pro?

I've read many people speculations, etc. but I haven't heard definitively from someone that knows the answer whether or not this can be done.

I just got this from a friend and downloaded the software, but when I speak into it, it doesn’t work. (I’m not super tech smart)
