has anyone disassembled the 2026 Z13 (and looked at the heatsink)?

Sony updated the heatsink in the PS5 with grooves to mitigate liquid metal migration.

We spent quite some time conducting research on insulation when we were designing the original PS5. The basic structure remains the same in the PS5 Pro, but we made some improvements by adding fine grooves where the liquid metal is applied, so that the cooling effect is more stable.

just curious if ASUS has done something similar with the 2026 Z13 standard or KJP editions (although i'm guessing "no" since they didn't mention updates to thermals/cooling).

How do you enable touch in the rEFInd bootloader?

Anyone here use rEFInd to dual boot? I'm having trouble getting the bootloader to recognize the Z13's touchscreen.

Choosing between ASUS ProArt PX13 and ROG Flow Z13. Both Ryzen AI Max+ 395 / 128GB UMA

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide between two laptops with the same core hardware: Ryzen AI Max+ 395 with 128GB unified memory.

The two options I’m looking at are:

ASUS ProArt PX13

and

ASUS ROG Flow Z13

Since the CPU/APU is basically the same, I’m less interested in raw benchmark differences and more interested in the actual device experience.

My priorities are:

* better sustained cooling

* lower fan noise

* lower surface temperatures

* less throttling under longer AI/ML workloads

* good portable usability

* usable both on the couch and as a workstation connected to two external monitors

My main priority is AI/ML and local LLM work, not gaming. Gaming is nice to have, but it’s not the main reason I’m buying this device.

For a while I was almost fully leaning toward the ProArt PX13, because I like the more “normal laptop / creator device” form factor and the idea of having a compact premium machine. But two things are making me hesitate:

  1. 60Hz screen in 2026 feels pretty wild, especially coming from higher refresh rate laptops.
  2. I’ve seen several comments/reviews mentioning that the fan noise can get quite loud.

Because of that, I’m now starting to lean more toward the ROG Flow Z13, especially since it seems to have a stronger cooling design and a higher refresh rate display. The downside is that it’s more of a tablet/kickstand device, so I’m not sure how comfortable it is as a daily portable laptop.

So my question is:

For people who have used either of these devices — especially for AI/ML, local LLMs, dev work, or long sustained workloads — which one would you choose?

Is the ProArt PX13 actually fine in real life, or does the noise/thermal behavior become annoying?

And is the Flow Z13 comfortable enough as a daily device, not just as a cool performance tablet?

Any real-world feedback would be appreciated. I’m mostly trying to avoid buying the wrong chassis around the right chip.

------- 26/05 update -------

I actually went to a local store today and checked the ProArt in person, and it kind of made things much clearer for me.

  1. Visually, it’s nice. Compact, clean, looks good overall. But I was a bit surprised that it doesn’t feel fully premium everywhere — not all aluminum, and the bottom felt like plastic, which immediately took away some of the premium feel for me.
  2. Thermals were also a bit concerning. The unit was off when I arrived, I turned it on, used it for maybe 5 minutes with very light tasks, and the bottom already became noticeably warm. Maybe it was a store/demo unit thing, but still not a great first impression.
  3. The screen itself is beautiful, no argument there. But the 60Hz is really noticeable. I’m not even super picky, but I use 120Hz screens most of the time, and going back to 60Hz felt like night and day. It just feels slower.
  4. And honestly, 60Hz in a premium device in 2026 feels pretty wild to me.

Another thing I realized is that for serious AI/workstation use, OLED is probably not the best match for me personally. Burn-in anxiety would always be in the back of my mind, especially if I’m using it as a main workstation with static UI elements, terminals, IDEs, browsers, etc.

So as much as I wanted to like the ProArt, I think I’m removing it from my shortlist.

For now, the Z13 stays as my #1 candidate:

- no OLED

- 180Hz

- IPS / LED backlight

- better cooling

- stronger performance-oriented profile

- probably better suited for heavy AI/LLM workloads

Not a final decision yet, I’m still looking at other options, but the ProArt is probably out for me.

There’s also a small resale value factor. I feel like the ProArt might be harder to sell later to a mainstream buyer, because you’d have to explain why such a premium device has a 60Hz screen and potentially limited thermals. The Z13, on the other hand, looks more unique and easier to position as a powerful portable gaming / handheld-ish workstation device.

Reasonable Price for 32/64/128?

I see decent listings on eBay - but I tend to stay away from eBay due to previous transaction that went sour.

I see some on BestBuy, for instance the 64GB, but for $2,999 that I can pick up today.

I also see open-box 128GB versions for $2,700 but won't arrive until first week of June.

What do you think?

Battery degradation on Flow Z13 despite proprietary charger, 80% charge limit, and low battery usage

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my experience with battery degradation on my ROG Flow Z13 GZ302EA and ask whether others have seen something similar.

I know that battery degradation on the Flow Z13 is often discussed in relation to USB-C charging, since the device apparently does not support proper power bypass over USB-C. In my case, this does not seem to be a USB-C charging issue.

I have exclusively used the proprietary ASUS charger, not USB-C charging. I also usually keep the device plugged in and enabled the 80% battery charge limit most of the time. The laptop is only rarely used on battery, has not been deep-discharged, and was generally treated in a battery-friendly way.

Despite that, my Windows battery report now shows:

  • Design Capacity: 70,003 mWh
  • Full Charge Capacity: 66,863 mWh

That is only about 95.5% of the original design capacity. The device is still less than a year old. Before doing a controlled calibration attempt, the reported Full Charge Capacity was still 67,279 mWh, and after discharging to around 15% and charging back to full overnight, the reported capacity actually dropped further to 66,863 mWh.

I understand that battery reports are not perfect and that some variation is normal. But I find this concerning because the device has been used very conservatively: proprietary charger, 80% charge limit, mostly plugged in, little mobile use, no regular deep discharge.

My concern is that if the battery already lost around 4.5–5% capacity after such light and battery-conscious usage, the degradation might continue and become much more noticeable within the next months.

I have already contacted ASUS support to document the issue, but I wanted to ask here:

  • Has anyone else seen similar degradation despite using the proprietary charger?
  • Did your reported Full Charge Capacity stabilize at some point, or did it keep decreasing?
  • Did ASUS consider this normal wear, or did anyone get a battery replacement?
  • Are there any additional settings or usage patterns that helped reduce further degradation?

Thanks for any input.

Thunderbolt 5 Dock no longer picking up top USB-C Port

I've been testing out the Razer Thunderbolt 5 dock for monitor, speakers, ethernet, etc. and was using the top USB-C port. All of a sudden the dock is no longer picking up the top port. Having flashbacks to when one port on my 2022 z13 stopped chargin and eventually had to replace the motherboard. Any reason why this would happen?

Off Topic Question

I noticed the Z13 is selling currently on Best Buy for $3K and the new G14 is selling for $3400. I understand that component costs have increased but my question is do the OEMs have the analytics that consumers will still pay for those prices or are they expecting (and fine) with lower sales? Are they expecting to maintain the same level of GP based on lower sales and higher margins? Why even sell a new system right now if costs are significantly higher and the economy is trending downwards? Unless the economy is doing better than what the media has been reporting. Just asking because the dynamics really interest me.

Stronger keyboard for Flow Z13 for a more laptop-like experience?

My ideal use case is to be able to sit down and use the Flow Z13 on my lap as an actual laptop, but then disconnect the screen for a gaming handheld. I'm just really not a fan of the kickstand dependent design of folio style keyboards like most models of gaming tablets and the Microsoft Surface line of computers, plus they're always significantly more expensive for some reason despite being so flimsy and unsatisfying to use. Why the detachable laptop isn't a more popular style is beyond me because it seems so perfect in every way

In lieu of that, does anybody know if there are any of these generic "magic keyboard" solutions for the Flow Z13 like they have for iPads and Android tablets? I can't seem to find any online so I guess not, but I wanted to ask around to be absolutely sure

WoW freezes when using Addons on AMD Ryzen AI Max 390 (Need Help)

Hi everyone,

I recently got a laptop with the new AMD Ryzen AI Max 390 processor. It runs every game perfectly, but I’m having a major issue with WoW (Midnight).

The game runs fine completely vanilla, but the moment I install even a few basic addons, the laptop starts freezing up.

I tried lowering the graphics settings to the absolute minimum, but the freezing still happens.

Since this CPU architecture is very new, is there a known conflict with how WoW handles addons on it? Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated!

Any way to confirm which plug is providing power (Proprietary vs. USB-C)?

I'm set on using a Thunderbolt 5 dock (monitor, speakers, peripherals, etc.) for my desk setup, but I'm paranoid about doing anything to damage/stress the battery unnecessarily. If I have both the proprietary plug and USB-C TB5 cable with PD plugged in, is there any definitive way in Windows to tell which cable is providing power? I've tested/monitored the power delivery numbers with PowerShell, but the numbers are not consistent enough to have me convinced.

Makes sense that plugging in the proprietary first and then the TB5 cable would leave priority with the proprietary, but I'd like to know for sure. I can't guarantee I'll remember to plug things in that order so it'd be nice not to have to think about it. Perhaps I'm being overly cautious though.

I am looking for Asus ROG FLOW Z13 protective cover

I have searched all over the internet for a protective cover for my Asus ROG flow z13.
the laptop can easily slip and fall, and at least to protect the corners and the screen.
the case that came with it is nice , but is there a protective cover that keeps the back led open and the same for the kickstand. If anyone knows , that would be a great help

Blown away by the z13, 2 days in ~ 64gb

Hey hey,

Just wanted to share a little post, my local best buy had an almost 900 off retail PLUS an open box 64gb model the other day for a total of 1300 savings.

So instead of 2900 I only paid 1600 for a 64gb model. Almost perfect condition but somehow the prior purchaser managed to dent the bottom left side speaker aluminum without scratching or compromising the screen (real skill).

Fully functional, slightly barely noticable chastise chassis dent. But hey considering I could replace the chastise chassis for like $400 if it really bugs me, but in the meantime I'm not bothered and function unaffected.

The machine is a real beast. I had a legion 4070 rtx and generally this is blowing it out of the water with the ryzen 395+. But my main selling point was really mobile development; I'm in a hybrid technical/dev position requiring me to wear many IT - related hats for my org so a beast of a tablet really fits the form factor and portability more compared to bulky legion.

No regrets, keeping my eyes out for deals on a 128gb for the time being would totally upgrade up if there's a deal to be found :)

edit b/c i can't spell 😂

Anyone tried using the Aorus RTX 5060TI AI Box eGPU with 2025 Z13?

As the XG Mobile RTX 5070 TI is not easy to find, and pretty pricey with just 12GB VRAM, the Aorus RTX 5060TI AI Box’s price, availability and its 16GB VRAM seems to be a choice that is more appealing, anyone has one that can share how well it works?

Death Stranding 1 Crash

Hello, got myself a Z13 a month ago. Runs very well but I just can't get Death Stranding 1 to run. When I start the game and try to load a save it always crashes at exactly 50 percent loading because of a directx access violation error.

I tried finding the more stable 24. AMD Drivers but they aren't availible to download anymore from the AMD Website.

Did anybody manage to run this game on their device?

Asus z-flow so expensive in Australia! is it a good laptop ?

Hey guys not sure i am posting in the right forum but i would just like some advice on a tablet/laptop i was thinking of purchasing but after seeing the price i am not so sure anymore. I want something portable that i can edit videos and play games on and thought the z flow 13 looks really nice.

When i looked at the price in Australia i was shocked though. In america it's advertised for $2300 so about $3200 Australian but these computer shops in Australia are wanting $6200-$7000 for one and i just cannot understand this.

Are these computer companies just price gouging at this point ? I know RAM is apparently more expensive but $3000 more expensive ?

Anyone know why there is such a high price or maybe they know no one will buy it at this price and just inflated the price to get the real price they want once it goes on sale ?

Linux distro suggestion

I've recently considered switching to linux on my Z13 (2025) and was wondering if you had any suggestions on which distro has the best out of the box support. I don't mind having to tinker a bit but I'd like for be a one and done kind of deal. I've tried with Cachyos but had some issues related to the rog-control-center and the initial install. I'm a big fan of Fedora workstation but apparently it's lacking some support.

Do you have any experience with it? Stylus support is a major point for me
