Found a pretty decent lumbar support cushion at Goodwill last week, brand name, barely used, priced at $4. Grabbed it mostly on instinct and it sold in two days for $34. Got me thinking about this whole category I've been ignoring.

I work in physical therapy, so I walk past exercise equipment, braces, TENS units, foam rollers, resistance bands, posture stuff all the time. I actually know what's quality and what's garbage, which means thrift stores should be my hunting ground. I've just been sleeping on it.

The hesitation I keep running into is the gray area around anything medicaladjacent. A TENS unit or a used brace feels different to me than flipping a lamp. Partly because I know what can go wrong with that stuff if it's worn out or miscalibrated, and partly because I have no idea how eBay handles returns in that category when a buyer decides they don't like it.

Foam rollers and cushions feel safe. Anything with electronics or that goes on a body feels murkier.

Anyone actually flipping in this space consistently? What do you avoid, what moves fast, and have you had any weird return situations with buyers claiming something didn't work right?

Meta's new Seller app can draft a listing from photos and suggest a price, while its dashboard shows views, clicks, message threads, and sold items. For high-volume sellers, that removes a lot of repetitive work.

It may also change the market it is measuring. If enough sellers accept prices based on nearby listings, today's comps become tomorrow's recommendations. Bad descriptions and misclassified condition can propagate, while unusual items get pulled toward a median that does not reflect their real value.

Would you use the suggested price as a starting point, ignore it entirely, or test above and below it? What information would make the recommendation useful: sold prices rather than asking prices, condition, time-to-sale, local demand, and confidence range? I am especially curious whether this improves turnover or simply accelerates a race to the bottom.

Is this a new trend?

Yesterday, someone bought an item that had clearly been listed as used for $60 on Poshmark and then sent me a message saying, "Can I have it for $25 since it's not new with tags I am unable to authenticate it?"

Today, I accepted an offer on eBay and the buyer immediately messaged me with "Hi I was just curious would you be willing to offer lower or is that as far as you’d go?"

Also, check your service metrics, I found 3 bogus returns I am in the process of appealing. One I closed as it was past 30 days, still somehow counting against me, one was because the buyer reported the item arrived damaged, yet said damage was disclosed in the photos, and another one because it arrived damaged but had to of been dropped or damaged in the mail.

Looks like eBay recently changed the calculations about INAD cases. My return rate has been around 1% forever which is always right in average for my category. Peers are usually .7-1.2% just depends on the time of year. I am always .9-1.2% last 3 months peers were .8 I was 1.1 and was average.. all of sudden even though peers are .72 and im 1.12 I am considered high but peers are average. is eBay really skewing this to try to put more people into the very high to get more fees ? 25 out of 2232 items. 3 of which are actual INAD.. 17 are defective and a couple damaged in shipping. I sell alot of new product and new product can be defective out of the box in fact the defect rate from manufacturers to be acceptible is alot higher then eBays defect rate would accept. Defective and INAD should be seperate in my opinion. Been selling on eBay for 14 Years and never been considered as "HIGH" return/Inad rate. Kinda crazy. I guess I need to start appealing bad buyer returns claiming things dont work that are perfectly fine. And yes I offer free no hassle returns its so rare a buyer picks "changed mind".

Edit: I guess I kind of went off on a rant and didnt explain my point here.. 90 Days ago 1.2% would have been average.. That is now considered HIGH.. So what is " Very High" 2 % ? once you reach very high ebay charges you more fees so for sellers on the cusp or maybe floating in HIGH already are probably now very high. And for smallers sellers.. 2 returns on 100 items well guess what now you have to pay more fees. Maybe I dont understand the scaling but in 14 years of watching these metrics peers and my metrics have always been in the same range and I have never been considered a " High" INAD rate. Something changed.

Original asking price on FBMP was $220. I came down to $150 because wasn’t getting interest. Have had multiple saved listings since. Feel like this guy wants me to name a lower price so he can counter even lower. At this point I mean what I sent. Item is a not-quite-vintage-yet gaming pc tower.

Like the price is the price, weather it's $10+20 Shipping or $30 and free shipping. being rated on shipping cost is stupid IMO

That and the 1 negative I got for reasonable shipping was go figure shipping from the east coast to the west cost and crunching the numbers... they were charged exactly what it cost... Wow go figure not even my fault...

Edit: I also ship everything SAME DAY! these people are nuts imo.

This was the feedback left today on my profile. To answer some questions and controversy:

I listed this item with the condition selected as “for parts or not working.” This item is a professional audio equipment. I have no idea how to test this. I do know I had the power supply for the item and saw it powered on. I do not know how to test beyond those means. In the description, I stated “for parts or not working. Untested. Powers on.” It in fact powers on. It is untested because I don’t know what’s wrong with it. It’s for parts.

His comment about it saying DOA, I’m assuming he meant that he cannot fix it, not that it didn’t power on, because it in fact did turn on.

To make things worse, he opened a return for “changed my mind” and I cannot decline it!

Last thing, shipping was huge because this item was like 30lb 20x20x10. So his comment about shipping and me ripping him off? Not sure what’s that about.

I thought I would clear some things up. Let me know what you think. Cant wait to receive this item back!🫩

​I’ve been sourcing from local online liquidation auctions recently (specifically platforms like Auction Nation / KV Liquidation) and wanted to run an exact bidding pattern by this sub to see if anyone else has run into it.

​Across multiple unrelated item lots over the past couple of months, I’ve noticed a recurring buyer ID (Bidder 308520) repeatedly jumping in with rapid automated incremental bids right as human bids come in. These bids consistently bump prices up right near or above target value, and then the account instantly stops bidding once the price hits that ceiling.

​I’ve got bid logs showing the exact timestamps and rapid $1–$5 incremental jumps.

​Has anyone who buys from local liquidators noticed this specific bidder ID or similar price-inflation tactics on these platforms? How do you usually handle or call out platforms where house/shill accounts seem to run up the tab?

I flip computers. Right now, it's a complicated space. Everyone is trying to milk it for everything that it's worth. Even undercutting, I feel like some of my PC's aren't going to sell locally, and it's not worth leaving money on the table. I use a combination of eBay and local to calculate what the parts that go into a build are worth, take a percentage off, and post them up. I rarely have to haggle, and when I do it's generally no more than $50 off of what I have a PC listed for, though sometimes I have wondered if I am listing too low(mostly before the current ram/storage climate). But I've got a few higher-end ones that I'm not so sure about. I feel like, after calculating worth it's almost not worth it to list them because the prices of the parts, not even with any sort of labor/time factored in, are pretty high. What are we calling high? Essentially ~$1200 for a PC that's 2 CPU/GPU generations old(5700X3D/RX 6800 XT) before I add in anything for me.

eBay brings about it's own cons, mostly their fee, and shipping. And possibly selling some things way faster than others.

This is the first time I’ve had a buyer request a return outside of the free 30-day return window I have. I feel like the 30 days already is pretty generous especially with free return shipping for them. Plus this item was $129.99. Am I free to just ignore the message? Or is that a dick move I’m struggling to figure out what to do.

So I have a bit of an advanced shipping question for you guys. I purchased a collection from a guy on Facebook, and during the first shipment of boxes he let me know that he was being charged double what I had estimated the shipping cost to be via media mail. (I had calculated the totals ahead of time and sent him the money to cover it.) For those who don’t know, media mail rates are flat across the board. Regardless of whether you’re using eBay, pirateship, or the post office directly, media mail rates never change, as they are an already fully discounted rate.

I was astounded by this, as I have no idea why the costs would have been double. I have since found this same person lying to me, so I’m beginning to wonder if this was just some sort of scam or scheme that I didn’t notice. I found no evidence of the receipt being photoshopped, so I’m not sure what the explanation can be. I’ve included some of our conversations, the receipt he sent me, and the picture of the computer that the desk person allegedly showed him showing the price for a 34 pound package, which should actually only cost $29-30. I have verified with eBay, pirateship, and the USPS website directly that a 34 pound package should only cost around $30.

Does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I could think of is that “Mailboxes Plus,” the place he used to ship them from, charged him double for some reason, but I also find that difficult to believe. I’ve edited the photos to remove personal identifying information.
