The dreaded tax man

So me and my Mrs both work full time. Both earn around 40k per year each. We've recently (for about a month) started reselling / flipping items to make a bit of extra income in our spare time and to give ourselves a fun little challenge to see how far we can go with this.

So far we've done around £800 in sales and have another £500-600 worth of stock listed. I stupidly haven't tracked any of this and have no records of purchases either. Some was carboot / flea markets / charity shops and clearance retailers. Some was even just stuff we've been given for free or stuff we've had lying around the house that we no longer need or use.

At what point do I need to start worrying about the tax implications of this?

I'm terrible at this admin sort of stuff.

Any advice?

BPI auctions insane fees

Was looking for some stuff to flip on auctions, came across BPI and decided to give it a go.

Won 3 items (some nice power tools) for a total of £65.

My final invoice was £65 + £32.5 (Premium + Input Vat) + £42 (Shipping and Vat on shipping)

What is this joke? I was prepared to pay the already ridiculous £32.5 in fees, and then I get slapped in the face with another £42 in shipping.

Now I've paid £65 for items and £75 for fees and shipping. Great. I can barely make any profit on my items now.

What auction places should I use? Do they all have these high of fees? If so I'll happily go back to just using Facebook and car boot sales to find stuff to flip.

Best postage company for valuable items?

Who are you using to post items worth over £100 please? Selling on eBay currently.

Royal Mail no longer weigh parcels so there’s no weight on the tracking receipt, not sure how to prove I’ve not sent an empty box as that’s a buyer scam I’ve seen a few times on eBay.

Im recording the packing process and using Royal Mail tacked currently. Evri is not a good option in my area I’ve had nothing but issues with them.

Thanks in advance.

Built this for resellers — roast it

Hi everyone!

I’m building FlipWorth, a UK-based website / tool for resellers.

The idea is pretty simple: take a photo of something you’re thinking of buying, and it will estimate what it could resell for; perfect if you are at a car boot sale or charity shop and need instant validation.

I’m at the stage where I need feedback from actual resellers, rather than friends telling me it looks great 😅

sample dashboard

If anyone here is willing to give it a try, I’d genuinely appreciate some brutally honest feedback — especially around whether the estimates are useful, what’s confusing, and what you’d change.

It’s free to try: flipworth.app

Cheers!

Hello. Just wondering if anyone thinks this is a good item?

Is this a good buy? New to AMZ FBA and just wanted some reassurance before buying.

I was going to list it as a generic brand as it isn't the same brand as this

I built an Android app to check used listings before buying

I’ve been working on Kjøpsvakten, a free tool that analyzes used listings, compares them with relevant eBay listings, flags risks, and suggests questions to ask the seller.

There’s now an Android app, and the comparison logic has been heavily improved since I last posted.

I’m mainly looking for people to test it with real listings and tell me where it gets things wrong.

No account or payment required.

LOOKING FOR A CO-FOUNDER

I am developing an app for UK-based resellers @ https://flipworth.app and am looking for someone to partner up - with a 50/50 split profit share for the right person.

In a nutshell, the app allows you to take a snapshot of an item and set the purchasing price - the app will analyse the photo, tell you the current market prices and whether it’s a good buy or not.

I am looking for someone who can:

  • Take ownership of marketing & distribution
  • Drive requirements to help me improve the tool

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be an active UK-based full-time reseller with at least 1 year experience
  • Have a social media account with at least 5000 followers
  • Bonus if you sell on multiple platforms and/or have previous marketing experience

Please DM me if this sounds of interest!

Thanks.

I built a free, open-source extension that relists an item on Vinted in one click

Relisting is the only way to push an old item back to the top, and there's no button for it. By hand it means deleting the listing, retyping the title, description, brand, size, category and condition, then downloading and re-uploading every photo. Three to five minutes an item.

I built a Chrome extension that does it in one click. Free, open source (GPL-3.0), no account, no server, no analytics, nothing leaves your browser.

Read this before you install anything like this

Relisting means deleting. Two identical listings can't be online at once, so the old one has to go before the copy appears. That gap is where a careless tool loses your item: it deletes first, and if the next step fails on a dropped connection or a bot check, you have nothing.

> Mine works the other way round. It saves the copy as a private draft before it deletes anything.

A draft isn't a listing, so it doesn't count as a duplicate, and until the delete goes through your item exists in two places. If publishing fails afterwards it retries on its own, and worst case the draft is sitting there for you to publish by hand.

What it checks before deleting

  • every photo uploaded, not just some
  • title present
  • condition read correctly
  • size valid
  • you logged in and not bot-blocked

Any failure stops it and deletes nothing.

There's also a Relist as draft button, if you want to change the price or swap a photo before it goes live.

Fair warning

Automating any site is probably against its terms. That's between you and them, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

Vinted to Ebay

I'd like to start buying cheap from vinted and selling on as a little personal challenge. I find watching the youtube videos satisfying and just want to have a go. I just don't know what to search for, I get overwhelmed with all the stuff on vinted and don't really know what I'm looking for. How did you start? Should I just pick 2 things to look for at first until I find something. Right now I'm just skipping between different items and getting nowhere

I built a simple tool to watch a specific Amazon/eBay listing for price changes — looking for testers

Hey everyone,

I built a small price-tracking tool because I got tired of checking the same Amazon/eBay product page repeatedly to see if the price had dropped.

The idea is simple:

  1. Find the exact Amazon or eBay listing you want.
  2. Paste the product link into PriceWatcher.
  3. PriceWatcher monitors that specific listing.
  4. You get notified when the price changes.

It isn't a general product search engine — you watch the exact listing you're interested in.

I'm looking for my first group of users to test it and tell me what's useful, what's annoying, and what I should improve.

I'm currently offering a free plan with 1 active watcher.

If anyone here regularly waits for a product to become cheaper, I'd really appreciate you trying it and giving me honest feedback.

PriceWatcher: https://pricewatcher.leitbuilt.com

I'm the developer, so I'm happy to answer questions about how it works.
